“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”

851

“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers” screams the BBC headline ahead of this evening’s interview by Chris McLaughlin of the Last King of Rangers, Our Hero, Craig Whyte.  Whyte has retained private contact with a couple of journalists but he has previously declined earnest requests to go on the record given the level of investigation he is under.  The wrong word could be costly.

But here it is, “I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”.  An unequivocal assertion.

The interview will be broadcast on Reporting Scotland and Newsnight Scotland this evening and has been trailed by every outlet in the land (first trailed by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain last night).  There appears to be genuine surprise in many news outlets.  CQN’ers will be busy checking this this is, in fact, news, not a rehash of an earlier established fact (it is genuine news).

It has been a few months since Our Hero was The Only Show in Town but he can still put on a captivating performance.

Charles Green has yet to respond but he will.  He has no choice.  He could categorically deny the claim, citing Whyte’s court-established reliability, but to do that he’ll have to calculate that corroborating material will not emerge.  The wrong word now could torpedo hopes of a successful share issue next month

A bombastic statement from well-polished PR people is what’s needed.  I hope we’re not disappointed.

“I brought Charles Green in to buy Rangers”.  Kaboom!

  1. Jabba is the Chief Exec of “The Rangers” really.

    That was tripe.

    Bloody shameful BBC.

  2. I reckon this will be the last season that I will contribute to anything to do with scottish football.

Had enough, they are taking us all for mugs, we are in our own way as guilty as the stupid huns, in some ways worse, we are not stupid, and yet we still contribute to a corrupt game, a game that is so feckin corrupt, they are breaking every rule in the book to accomadate a club who have cheated every other club in the land, and yet the authorities still do everything in their powers to protect them.

My money is as good as anyone elses, if they want it, they will have to sort it, or not a single cent more will be forthcoming.

Over to you Celtic, and I doubt I am in the minority.

Just watch the season books next season if you doubt me, unless something is done.

It’s a farce, they are cheating, they are stealing, they are corrupt, and they want our money, more fool me if I give the game a penny more.

The huns arrested this season could all have been arrested last season under the existing law.

The reason they’ve been arrested this season is because of the size of the grounds, it’s nothing to do with the new legislation. That was to crimilalise us. That nice Christine Graham MSP made that clear.

If you watched the coverage of the bill through the committee stages you would know that.

In fairness it was two years ago and I cannot remember every post people make even from guys who write as well as James Forrest. Perhaps I tuned out because I just thought it was politicking but I do recall being angry at the time.

I would say that Jim Murphy was rather partial and he was after all the first high profile politician to make noises of give them leniency long before the SNP. It’s cut from the same cloth as me but then again Labour did give banks freedom to do what they pleased. Maybe he felt guilty:)

Everyone has a great defense regarding Craig Whyte- he’s a liar.

Alex Salmond had better have some good answers because this is one issue folk will not just let go.

  6. If only Paul McBride was still here. How he would have ripped them apart.SPL clubs would have hired him to sue the SFA for running Scottish football for the betterment of Rangers. Its beyond stupid.

I think it was Sir David Murray pulling in a favour having backed the SNP before the last election that Salmond accepted which shows you how little Salmond knows about the economy and current affairs. I bet he admits now that it was poor judgement.

It was warning from Murray to Celtic plc about who calls the shots. Unfortunately for us Paul Mc Bride called his bluff on behalf of Celtic plc.

Traynor saying he criticised Murray for getting debt up to £85m and spending £12m on a player. Anyone remember this?

  15. Ernie

I don’t think you’ll get an argument from me on that but in the overall scheme of things it is balance for balance’s sake and the only way to get that was to criminalize us to play the one’s as bad as the other myth.

I saw the RTC thing but in the article from the Record, Salmond was accused of acting for Murray not Whyte and the article was printed in June of this year a whole year after Murray had gone.

One aspect of Whytes interview which I found particularly accurate was his comment re the old regime and their failure to even attempt to make any provision to try and pay off the big tax bill

A question which none of the media have ever asked …Johnston and co knew of the potential indebtedness but carried on regardless

For any journos looking in here is a post on CQN from mid June.

It will take BDO acting for HMRC to check out Walter Smith’s part in Rangers downfall and they will have every reason to do so.

When the PLG “project” went belly up two men decided on the way ahead, Sir David Murray and Walter Smith (funny how his knighthood never turned up intit?).

Smith was not even at Rangers but was working with the SFA. (did they ever get compensated btw?). Anyhoo WS and SDM got together and started to build a team to end Celtics title domination and divert the CL income that came with it to Rangers.

So in 2007 after Smith arrived Smith identified £11.3m of players that SDM agreed should be bought to start the rebuild.

In 2008, by which time the core big tax bill had arrived (Feb 2008 I’ve read) WS identified a further £18m of players, two of whom are on the ebt list (Mendez and Davis – so WS knew all about ebts). That makes £29.3m that WS was responsible for Rangers spending in order to win. (a habit WS could not break when he managed to get approval for a £4m spend on Jelavic in spite of Lloyds control, although the full price was never going to be paid as things turned out).

To be fair transfers out in 2008 of £19.5m brought net spend (not including wages) down to £9.8m but had that £19.8m been set aside for HMRC in 2008 and had only half of the £18m been spent Rangers could easily have covered the big tax bill before interest and fines.

This WILL come out in the HMRC wash and WS stands as guilty as SDM in Rangers fate. All the above figures are in the public domain and all it needs is a jouno with gonads to bring it out.

BBC Interviewer “How much did you make?”

Craig Whyte “Any arrangements I had with the purchaser are confidential”.

I thought we had always been led to believe that by the time Duff & Phelps had offloaded the assets to Chuckle Brother Green, that Whyte was out the picture, an irrelevance.

    Hmmmm.

  23. Jabba getting confused between debt and built in financial, year on year deficit.

Murray killed Rangers, Whyte is a patsy, a well paid patsy, but a patsy never the less.

How many institutional investors will be interested in a company with all this bad publicity going on around it?

    Is that Whytes agenda?

The SPL/SFA knew that Rangers were bust by October, they have questions to answer.
