ICC absurd fantasies

“Old Firm game for Wembley”. Heaven help us. I don’t doubt International Champions Cup owner, Charlie Stillitano, has a sharp eye for what he could turn into a commercial success, but there can be fewer worse ideas in the history of sporting endeavour.

So many things could go wrong with such a fixture, some would go wrong, and the contagion would spread to Celtic. There’s no mention in any coverage of this item that Celtic have been consulted at any level, so I’m assuming they were as surprised as the rest of us at the moment (they were at a similar suggestion of a game in Australia a few years ago).

Stillitano cites hosting Manchester City-Manchester United in Beijing later this year as being something of an approximation. It’s not. I suggest he looks to somewhere deep in the Monglian hinterland for a venue for a Glasgow derby of this nature. Even then I would decline.

  2. Re. bar on the Prime Minister being a Catholic. I looked into this a few years ago and could find nothing which says this is so. People often conflate the Terms of the Act of Settlement 1701 which bars the Monarch from being a Catholic or marrying one.

Tony Blair was merely a coward who didn’t want to rock the boat, he said it would be a distraction to convert during his time in office.

Ernie, you body swerved my observations about the Establishment’s attitude to the average Celtic fan aspiring to any of these positions.

    ###

I would say that the average Celtic fan would have as much chance of being PM or Lord Chancellor or whatever as the average fan of any other football club, and the attitude of the Establishment would be the same.

Now, about theses secret oil fields……………

My guess is that the Club will do nothing re resolution 12..

    My thinking is :

If they wee going info anything it would have been done by now

PL is too entwined with SFA to ever rock any boat

Celtic believe the best financial interest of the club is in fostering ‘Old Firm’ alliances

So if the only route to get the SFA to take an interest is through Clubs I don’t hold out much hope.

Generally other clubs have moved on and are no longer as invested in holding Sevco to account so I don’t see much mileage in a wider fan lobby.

Personally I’m more interested in the big picture at Celtic..talking about which – when are we getting the big picture post from P67?

  12. Proudbhoy,

I used a programme called Media Widget to copy from an iPod to a pc, I can’t remember how much it cost but there is a trial version which I used to check it worked before spending money. If I remember correctly the trial version allows you to transfer 10 tracks then stops working unless you upgrade to the full version. It’s the only method/programme that I could find that worked.

One moment I am thinking: I do not care about any side issues at all; I will be renewing and will continue to enjoy my visits to Celtic Park. Another moment, I think of the SFA and their love affair with Sevco and I feel I won`t be back.

If this dichotomy is widespread, then Celtic PLC won`t need to go searching for problems.

Proudbhoy … I still have 2 old ipods (one is probably 12 years old) with about 10,000 songs on each …. when one acted up (couldn’t add anything, and didn’t want to reset it, in case I lost everything), , I contacted apple (through their website), and the tech guys there sorted it all out for me … no problem … no charge … it is worth trying.

  15. mike in toronto on

PS … was reading back and noticed a few posts about Catholics being barred from certain positions …. and I thought we could do any position …. just weren’t really supposed to enjoy it …. and couldn’t use birth control….

  16. I see, having logged on again,TD67 wittering about Res 12. It must be great to be in the know. My post was mainly about Honour, Truth, and Integrity. I’m sure TD67 has met these characters sometime in the past. It doesn’t look like it was in the boardroom, however.

Sitting on his hands and waiting. It may be, at the present time, the best strategy for Mr PL.

This strategy will be ok in the meantime but as more and more stadium seating becomes glaringly vacant it will be a strategy best deserted. SB sales will soon tell him.

Or, maybe he will resign and escape to avoid the hassle. Who needs it ? Let someone else do it.

PL going out the door with his desk emptied, saying “Who knew that the fans could keep it together like that. Indeed football without fans is nothing”

I have an iPod classic. All you have to do is charge it first without connecting to a PC or iTunes, then you google for free software to download your iPod music to your PC in a separate library. I recreated my iTunes library like this. The software was old – like the iPod – and it worked. It was free too and you can use it for as many times as you want. It also gives instructions on how to recreate the ITunes folder when you download iTunes and transfer your music to it from the folder.

I can’t remember the name of the free software though :-)

My guess is that the Club will do nothing re resolution 12..

Your guess will be right if you don’t feel strongly enough to make it clear that you want action. A self fulfilling prophecy on your part.

To change it, if you think the integrity of Celtic as guardians of the integrity of Scottish football is important let the club know.

There is no doubt that the processing of the UEFA licence in 2011 was irregular and that the very least Celtic shareholders should get is an investigation to ensure that never again will Celtic or any other club suffer as a result of faults in the process. The very least.

Not going to UEFA is to walk to the back of the bus when Celtic should be driving the games into a garage called Integrity.

Just popped in to day well done to the Res12 guys. Looks like the ball is firmly in Celtic’s court now.

Time to step up or fess up.

  26. MUNGOLIAN BHOY on 27TH APRIL 2016 3:55 PM

Regarding Celtics hesitancy in jumping into the Res12 situation; could it be possible that in their considered opinion this is a “no-win” result. Damned if they do and damned if they don’t. If they Don’t they have the possibility of upsetting their supporters and making substantially less income. If they Do? OK, their supporters may buy SBs. However the other considerations are, if they Do, is fraught with potential unknown unpleasantness. This unpleasantness may have been forecast by some celtic fans, some celtic lawyers, some celtic shareholders, some other clubs, the police, the govt.

Eventually the truth will out. Perhaps they are trying to accomplish this with less collateral damage.

    ===========

I wish I could believe they were that far sighted. This needs managing to achieve that result. I see little evidence of a coordinated approach. Quite the reverse.

    Thanks for your update also.

I shall be emailing JPTaylor re the latest developments re Res12 and how the issue is managed by Celtic will have a direct affect on attending Celtic Park in future.

However, it will have to wait until after I have made the tea!

Like an teach Solais, I would be interested to know of any other action we can take. I am not a shareholder nor do I have a SB currently, due to finances. I’m hopeful this will change very soon. If its a case of a Judicial Review, then I will contribute what I can. Could the funds for a JR be raised by crowdfunding, like Paul McStay’s autobiography?

I see you asking about an EGM. The answer is we have not researched because it should never get anywhere near that point.

This is about reconstructing the SFA if they have been derelict in their duty to all clubs, not about reconstructing Celtic. My view is that you cannot build a healthy industry on toxic land and if Celtic are to have healthy space to play in they need to pick up the same shovels the shareholders already have.
