ICC absurd fantasies

“Old Firm game for Wembley”. Heaven help us. I don’t doubt International Champions Cup owner, Charlie Stillitano, has a sharp eye for what he could turn into a commercial success, but there can be fewer worse ideas in the history of sporting endeavour.

So many things could go wrong with such a fixture, some would go wrong, and the contagion would spread to Celtic. There’s no mention in any coverage of this item that Celtic have been consulted at any level, so I’m assuming they were as surprised as the rest of us at the moment (they were at a similar suggestion of a game in Australia a few years ago).

Stillitano cites hosting Manchester City-Manchester United in Beijing later this year as being something of an approximation. It’s not. I suggest he looks to somewhere deep in the Monglian hinterland for a venue for a Glasgow derby of this nature. Even then I would decline.

Wouldn’t matter. It’s now at the stage where a large portion of our support wouldn’t believe him anyway. For that reason alone, it may be time for him to go.

If there is no trust, there’s no moving forward.

I agree with you that there is a serious vacuum between the PLC and the support that gets filled with rumours and distrust

However, somebody was on here yesterday saying that Lawwell is willing to have a sit down with fans if needs be. He also responds personally to letters.

If you have genuine concerns, I’d suggest you reach out. You might be surprised.

That sentence “It states that those monitoring and compliance functions came to an end at the close of that particular season in respect of that same season and that it is not obliged to make any report in connection with the events of that season after the close of the season. You follow?” was right out of Yes Minister…………..

There is no bar on a Catholic holding any elected office of state.

That includes Prime Minister and Lord Chancellor.

there was no written statement from deadco re not signing a catholic but we knew it to be true..

the often used get out clause is that a PM has to advise the head of state and CoE and the fact that he/she is a catholic would be a problem.. so no written statement but like oldco well known

Well it’s good to see that the Labour Party did eventually do the right thing and that its elected representatives are allowed to criticise their leaders.

That’s not the case with all political parties. Certainly not here in Scotland.

  13. BLANTYRETIM IS PRAYING FOR THE KNOX FAMILY on 27TH APRIL 2016 2:17 PM

If there was any de facto prohibition on a Catholic being PM then I think it might have been mentioned by one of his opponents when IDS became leader of the Tory party.

  14. The Res 12 guys deserve all the plaudits for bringing this matter to the attention of the Celtic board. That the Emperor had no clothes was obvious, but to point out the tailors responsible (the SFA, SPFL and their cohorts) and the flawed workmanship was the clincher. I really don’t get the Club’s line on this. Without honour there is nothing. Without truth there is nothing. Without integrity there is nothing. A disregard for the ethics of the club permeates the whole structure, players, staff, fans. There needs to be a total revision of the present setup.

The ipod should be paired to an ITunes music library on a PC.

    Do you still have that?

If so and all of the music – and possibly more – is still on the PC then you should be able to connect the ipod to the PC using the ipod / USB cable.

What and how it then updates depends on the settings you have set for the ipod – eg update all music / photos etc automatically from whtas on the PC library to the ipod or , possibly , just some stuff.

Its much harder , but doable , to do it the other way round -ie if all the music is not on the pc you can transfer songs from the ipod to the PC but it can be tricky as it involves setting the ipod to be used as a disk drive

  19. Paul67 et al

Paul you are being disingenuous if you believe Celtic would not entertain playing RFC or RIFC in Australia or London. As TBB has already pointed out Celtic, without any reference to supporters, were fully prepared to play an ‘Old Firm’ game in Boston back in 2010. Initially Foxborough Stadium was to be the venue, but the actual venue was the home of the Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park. Celtic were due to share $1,000,000. Interestingly, in relation to the Hillsborough conclusions yesterday, the match was scuppered in part due to the efforts of a local based “Celtic supporter”, from Scotland as it happens, who posted an opinion piece article, in the Boston Globe, where he described the Ibrox Disaster as the result of trouble between Celtic and Rangers supporters, something, as having been there that day, I and others, were able to correct on the Globes’s website. Celtic still played though, against Sporting Lisbon in July, picked up a half a million bucks, and without such as a nod or a wink, (compare and contrast with the 1931 tour of the US and Canada) to any charitable organisation in ol Beantown got out of Denver. Moral of the story? You can’t always get what you want, but if you try some time…

    You get what you can….

  20. Anyone who is genuinely interested in knowing whether Catholics are barred from any elected office of state should contact Johanna Cunningham the SNP MP and ask her for a copy of the answer to her parliamentary question on the matter.

It deals with the matter in detail and explains what arrangements are in place are for a Catholic office holder having to deal with issues pertaining solely to the Church of England.

I don’t know why the SNP don’t clarify all this for those of their supporters who are a bit muddled on the matter. It’s almost as though they’d prefer people to be misinformed.

And people say they’re a cult.

Is their any websites or tech heads you know of that can update them with music If you send them your iPod ?

I know stuff like that is pretty simple for lots of people but I’m not the best at all that Craic. Hence why same songs for 5years :-)

  22. I’m sure any bar to a Catholic being PM will be clearly documented in the UK Constitution…

No they haven’t said that. They only got the letter yesterday and from my information at 8pm last night it had not even been discussed with the CEO.

Unfortunately, there are now so many lines of communication re Res 12 (inevitable when awareness of the situation is ever increasing) that sometimes messages get lost in the mix.

Send for reinforcements becomes send for three and fourpence.

The letter bears a very different message than the one we were told to expect, though the cynics amongst us were never waiting with baited breath, but it is a letter with a fairly thinly coded message I think.

Basically — we are not reporting this, we did everything right. However, if someone else reports it, we will co-operate in every way with any investigation, show that we did everything right, and if it turns out that someone else did something wrong then well we could not have prevented it.

Being an optimist, it actually represents progress of sorts ……… possibly!

Now, what others make of it we are yet to hear but they have already been appraised of our views as that was done immediately.

There will be a reply going to the SFA with the odd question………. and if this letter is anything to go by we expect even odder answers perhaps?

I don’t deny that communication could be better

That said, there are things that can be said via private conversation that couldn’t be even implied publicly. It does give the club an opportunity to be more candid.
