If this is the acceptable standard, SFA are welcome to it

Our man on the inside, Charlie Green, seems to have upset a few people over the weekend.  Charlie was playing to the gallery with his “bigotry” comment; it is not credible that the 35 clubs who voted against providing Sevco access to an elevated league are demographic significantly different from those of Rangers (1872/3).  Although, there is a good chance that each of those 35 clubs will have a more mixed profile than the former club.

Green is still fending off interest from people with far greater pull with the Rangers (1872/3) support than he has (genuinely hope he succeeds here).  He needs to sell tens of thousands of tickets to prevent his new club slipping into the hands of one of the other consortiums still trying to buy a piece of the action.  I always caution Celtic from playing to the gallery, it delivers short term populism but is surely the alternative to a strategic plan. I am sure several clubs will express their alarm at these comments to the SFA.

Unfortunately, since the SFA failed to take action on either of Ally McCoist’s earlier inflammatory outbursts so they can expect more of the same from Green and others.

Attempts are being made to convince thousands of people a bigoted bogeyman has been out to get them.  99% of the target population will do no more than complain loudly but it’s the unpredictable >1% who exist in every community we should be concerned about.

To the best of my knowledge no Scottish club has ever accused others of bigotry, not even during ‘that’ 80 year period.  If this is the new acceptable standard, the SFA are welcome to it, but it will be better for all if we go elsewhere to play our football.  Our game has been potent for a century but it has now become dangerously unstable.

Let us go now, before this is whipped up any more.  Anyone wanting to hold Scottish football together in its current form has a lot of explaining to do.

Email sent to the SFL re the Sevco page on their website which lists a whole load of honours they allegedly won since 1872, despite only being founded in 2012.

I know some might not see this as a priority, but if the authorities “recognise” this bunch of chancers as “Rangers,” then it really will be official recognition that they are absolutely untouchable, no matter what they do.

Unless the fans of all clubs unite again to have the SFA/SPL/SFL make it clear Sevco are a new club the official line will be that the Huns have survived liquidation.

Once I interviewed Sean Fallon, 90 today, about 7-1: “Ah, Jeez, you could have got a train through the Rangers defence that day…” Quality!

Paddy has played the no.10 role before. He can do a job, but it was Commons’ ability in this role that made the 3-4-1-2/4-3-1-2 tick.

    Good news if true.

  4. The reason RTC was so successful was that clearly he(or she) had a highly placed mole in the bureaucracy dealing with RFC. The leak of the Bain Papers, and other tidbits were highly specific, and absolutely explosive.

I suspect the leak has been plugged, which means RTC is less able to break stories now. Also, the story itself has moved onto SFA/SPL corruption, rather than the ins and outs of the tax case.

However, the blog provided a tremendous analysis of this immense story, one which was completely ignored by the MSM (RTC noted that the FTTT had sat for 2 weeks without a single mention in the MSM – truly a shocking indictment of their incompetence or collusion). The quality of posts was consistently high, and the analysis and information on the situation engulfing RFC was considerably stronger and more revealing than anything the MSM could muster.

If I were a sports journo in this country I would be thoroughly ashamed at being outdone by an amateur blogger on the biggest ever story in Scottish sports history.

RTC’s legacy will be the almost complete discrediting of the MSM in Scotland. Traynor, Jackson, Hugh, the Darryls, Leckie, Chico and the rest now resemble complete dinosaurs. Only those journalists who have embraced social media and are not beholden to the old RFC Lobby system – Jim Spence, Stuart Cosgrove, Ewing Graham (recently) – will prosper. The rest (including, sadly, Graeme Spiers) are toast.

Finally, CQN stands as the grand-daddy of this movement. It was the first Scottish blog to set itself up as purveyor of intelligent, sober, football-and-financial analysis of our game. RTC, whilst more specific, is certainly CQN’s (spiritual) offspring.

  5. Any London CQN-ers know of a friendly pub to watch the game on Saturday?

Anywhere from Hampstead down towards central London, Leicester Square etc so nearby a station on the Northern Line would be ideal i think

    Cheers.

  10. Just a thought, if Green had been asked the question: What are the reasons for rangers going into liquidation? Then this answer would have been about right.

“Some of it has been driven by bigotry, some of its been driven by jealousy and some of its been driven by all the wrong motives,”

Spot on SMB. Time for the fans to unite over this issue.

It’s this type of behaviour from the authorities that’s turning fans away from scottish football.

After the initial elation when supporter power ensured there was to be no direct return for the club in liquidation, supporters now see that the authorities will try whatever they can in order to accomodate one club leaving trust and integrity in tatters. Rules made up or ignored to suit and blind eyes turned.

This is what put the brakes on what would have been a bit of a surge in season ticket sales for all clubs; only my opinion of course.

Someone posted earlier that the shenanigans involving the unrepentant club could result in a massive drop in season ticket sales across the board next season, a drop that might never recover.

This reflects my own position and i paid in full within 24hrs of receiving my renewal pack this season.

  12. Back to work today. And all my Sevco supporting colleagues are upbeat and predicting big things. who are they playing in CL i cant find their game listed?

“It must give Traynor, King, Jackson , Young and their like the dry boak every time they think of this site. They were bested by a group who only wanted the truth to be told, and for justice to be done.”

Do you remember the pash Traynor came out with one day, ranting on about ‘integrity’ and how, without integrity a journalist is nothing? If nothing else at least the man doesn’t do irony. As you state above, without RTC and CQN these charlatans would still be peddling their guff from an Orc viewpoint and we’d still be in the dark about what is really going on. I think you’re right, the days of having to rely on the old, discredited MSM are gone and , yes, it must give them the boak that they’ve been undone by amateur bloggers who did a better job than them.

  15. I presume a few watched the latest STV nonsense last night. Their Scottish news programme had fifteen minutes on how every other club was struggling because of “what had happened to Rangers”.

No mention of opportunities for others, the increased season ticket sales or any of the positives. No mention of the damage done to Scottish football by their cheating over so many years. And no mention that everything that has happened in relation to the huns came entirely from their own actions.

  16. Yeah a fit commons makes big differance, I think we should be strong enough at home without him thou so I wouldn’t risk him. Having him 100% fit for return league be better.

I think midfield 4 of brown, kayal, ledley and sammi will put good shift in then give paddy freedom behind hooper to create.

Spot on mate. RTC was about absolute joy to read. Its main strength was the way it was a single issue focus site the reporting of rangers as seen via the rangers tax case. That the person who runs it stayed away from being a one team site plus the key element,as you say, of being privy to documents attracted itself to a host of diverse football fans.

That some of those fans brought the legal and financial insight strengthened the site no end.

What was said on the site proved time and again to be right, which attracted more readers.

It could not be dismissed by the usual suspects in the media.

I don’t think his/her role is over. The results of the FTT would be a fitting end. I hope that RTC can find a medium to direct attention in the future .

That’s a wee bit harsh. Commons was injured for most of last season.

Aye……CQN is way out there,in a class of it’s own; I reckon it’s the best Celtic site on the web for us ex-pat Tims to feel strongly in touch with the heartbeat of Celtic F.C..

Since my brother directed me here, years ago now,I have found it indispensable. I was a ‘long-time lurker’ before starting to post and I would be aghast if ever CQN wrapped up.

It’s also been the most informative Celtic site I’ve come across. There are other good sites, but there’s just something indefinably good about this one.

I’ve also found it to be a very caring place, too. A real community.

And if anyone has a question,it’s answered without any patronising or condescension . And if you want to know your history, this is the place to be.

You get it straight from those who were there,or those with an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things Celtic.

RTC has its place and has been a mighty force during the debacle created by rfc(defunct),but long after that debacle has become history,CQN will still be going strong.

I value and respect other sites, like Kerrydale Street, but I feel truly at home here.

  21. Hope Kris makes it on Wednesday, positive noises on that front at the moment.

I think we will need his creativity and goal threat from midfield. Thought he had a really good game against Inter and was arguably one of the best performers, along with big Vic and Lustig at CH (Whats going on there? Who would have thought it?).

If Kris doesn´t make it then I think it will be Forrest not Paddy who Lennon plays.

I found cqn the season after the Tommy title and I’m proud to say I’ve never bought a Scottish (or any) newspaper since, that’s how important this site, rtc and kds are and before that keep the faith which is where I was before here.

To think the dinosaurs of the msm are scratching round pandering to keep huns reading is rank unprofessionalism and not worthy of the price of a newspaper or internet click.

  26. From Danny McGrain’s biography (1978)

“One Saturday night there was a knock at the door and standing there was Sean Fallon, one of the nicest men i have ever had the pleasure to know. Sean has now left Parkhead and that makes me sad. He was my first contact with Celtic and was in the true Celtic mould. The club meant everything to him and 27 years service ended with the teams poor run last season. Certain players within the club should have had sleepless nights when Sean was sacked, for their poor efforts must have had a big hand in him going. I know i hardly slept the night he was leaving. Eleven years ago though Sean was still very much part of Celtic’s backroom staff … as chief scout … and when he came to ask me to sign i couldn’t find a pen quick enough.”
