The stats tell an enticing story, Milan have played thirteen competitive games since beating Celtic and won only two, but you can forget about them right now. Celtic are good enough to take three points tomorrow but it will require a perfect match plan if they are to do so.
This fixture will hold no fears for Celtic, who have been over similar ground many times before, but they face players vastly more experienced at playing the intensity of football which will be on display tomorrow evening. If we are to get anything from the game, we will have to subvert a team who will enjoy the majority of possession and territorial advantage, with impeccable defending and expert finishing.
We got it spectacularly wrong against Italian opposition last season, who were considerably weaker than the Spanish opponents who left Celtic Park empty handed, overwhelmingly as a consequence of diverging from the game plan which left Barcelona scrambling for a consolation goal. This is football at a remarkably unforgiving level, as Juventus let us know; you’re not in the SPFL now, Dorothy.

Interesting you include “Young” James who did not shine against Ross County or finish the game,or was available for Aberdeen,yet has now morphed into someone capable of causing bother to a CL team.
What happened to the NL cliches like ” ring rusty” “needs game time” etc.
Tried this before,time to give Derk a half at least,then the Mgr can satisfy his blind spot by giving JF the second half.
Irrespective which of our various favourites are picked,we need 100% constant involvement no spectators.

I wouldn’t know I’m in an action area albeit near the posh seats.
Ryan Gauld looks a real player; fine through passes (who does that with any consistency in our senior squad?) with good weight. If we have any young players of his class, they should be gettng game time. He looks like a future star.

On Saturday evening Eurochamps67 was bewildered to find that Bournesouprecipe had gotten back to the car from the North Stand Upper in jig time, avoiding the crushed stairway behind the Jock Stein stand.
Little did he know, but BSR had created a portkey from WC in the second cubicle of the toilets in section 408, this taking him as if by magic to the grit bin on Bogside St, a short number of yards from his parked car.
Somewhat vexingly though, despite poring over even the oldest books in the library, BSR has yet to find a spell to replace a stolen wing mirror.

Yeh I know all that he did well,no question,but I consider it a risk for 90 mins.
On a lighter note I totally missed the Old Tim inclusion so feel much happier, as if he can convert chances as clinically as he composes text then we are assured of a result.

Paradox: noun – a seemingly absurd or contradictory statement or proposition which when investigated may prove to be well founded or true.
Tuesday night is a crucial night for Celtic in the Champions League. They host a stuttering AC Milan side, while Ajax take on Barcelona in Amsterdam. If Celtic win and Ajax don’t, Neil Lennon’s side will move into 2nd place in the group.
So far so simple. But what if I was to tell you that, if Celtic win, they would actually want Ajax to draw rather than lose against Barcelona?
It sounds daft, but it’s actually true.
Let’s examine the possibilities. A Celtic win on Tuesday is eminently possible, but it seems unlikely they’ll manage the 3 goal win they’d need to lead AC Milan on head-to head. In 46 previous Champions League group stage matches, Celtic have only once won by such a margin (v Benfica in 2006). So let’s assume that Celtic record a nice simple one goal win.
And now let’s consider those two possible outcomes of the Ajax game. Scenario A is based on Ajax LOSING to Barcelona. Scenario B is based on Ajax DRAWING with Barcelona.
In the final game, Celtic are away to Barcelona, while AC Milan host Ajax. Even the most confident of Celtic fans would struggle to predict anything other than a defeat in the Nou Camp, so let’s examine the outcomes based on a Celtic defeat.
In Scenario A, it is impossible for Celtic to qualify if they lose to Barcelona. If either AC Milan or Ajax win, they will leapfrog Celtic in the group. If the match finishes as a draw, AC Milan would pip Celtic on the head-to-head.
However, in Scenario B, Celtic do still have a chance if they lose. An Ajax or AC Milan win would see Neil Lennon’s side eliminated, but a draw in Milan would see all 3 sides finish level on 6 points. In that case, it would come down to the three-way head-to-head record – ie results against Barcelona would be excluded. And Celtic would top that particular table with 6 points compared to Ajax and AC Milan’s 5.
I’m aware that I’ve made a couple of assumptions there, but actually they don’t really matter. If Celtic beat AC Milan (by any scoreline at all) there is no scenario where an Ajax defeat is any better than an Ajax draw. But as I’ve shown, there are scenarios where the draw is preferable to Celtic.
If Barcelona score on Tuesday, I’m looking forward to hearing a confused murmur make its way around Celtic Park
