Incremental gains required

205

Before the weekend I argued against the early return of Cameron Carter-Vickers against Motherwell on Sunday.  Cameron’s injured hamstring has hampered the player throughout the season and the best remediation for a hamstring is rest. Returning to action before it is absolutely necessary is a risk.

My thoughts on when “absolutely necessary” is has moved since.  One central defender will not change the way the team plays, he will not stop a cross coming into the box or be at the back post to stop a header, but Celtic are in desperate need of incremental gains.  As well as performing traditional defensive duties very well, he is comfortable in possession and can help transition the ball forward.

He would also be a confidence boost to players and fans alike.  Let’s hope we see him on Sunday.

  1. Ross Pilcher of the D. Rager has Sevco in Pot 2 for the Champions League. . . . .. .

Can we have a sporting realignment like Bayern?

    —-

There’s our warning. Bayern underwhelmed most of this season but up till ten days ago were only two points off the top.

Now they’re 8 and their gaffer is toast.

We can pull this back and compete up to the last day or see the league all but done before St Patrick’s Day.

    Happy Wednesday all!

Heading to Lisbon for first time this May.

Weather should be grand. There is a fair wee walk from the train stop to the stadium (good 20 minutes) so beware the sun.

Leave the small train station and cross a busy road. Go through a park / lake area and then keep left. You eventually bear left, and you see a local swimming pool/leisure centre on a a steep tree lined road. Go up the road to the right, and you will see (10 minutes) the stadium on your left. Go past the old entrance (the original turnstiles are still there) and you will see a smaller side entrance. Go in there. If you are really lucky, there is a local bhoy who is some sort of security man. He will take you on a guided tour. After the tour, give whatever euro you see fit, and everyone is a winner!

I hope these directions are helpful (probably more confusing than anything else).

Truly appreciate that, thanks for taking the time to outline. Good stuff.

  5. Aipple – Enjoy the Lisbon trip. We stayed in the Alfama area in the old town in 2019 and I’d recommend a visit there. There was a market just behind the old church at the top of the hill. The cafe downstairs from our place was great – homemade food and beers for EU1, what more do you need?

I read on here that they are re-building the stadium this summer, so look out for that.

Definitely go if you can. My wife was with me (she hates football – a secret Hun?) but seriously she was really taken aback by the whole experience and actually said that you could feel that something special had happened there.

  8. Maybe Mikey Johnston excels at West Brom because he doesn’t get booed onto the park at the Hawthorns.

  9. I think the dilemma staring us in the face is, we have sold some of our our best players and replaced them either with duds or guys we just wont play, we have money in the bank but won’t spend it, then when you look at our form over the last month or so and project it forward – it does not look good, plus the rangers have got themselves a half decent manager and our one looks as if he’s lost a pound and found a penny.

Personally I think he wanted to buy Miovski from Aberdeen – but the board refused to back him, no proof of this just a gut feeling, but for sure he would have suggested we do more than go with another unknown winger and a Norwich reserve striker, which would explain his petted lip.

A bumpy ride lies ahead, fasten the seat belts time.

I recall Danny Crainie coming on as a sub and you could hear the whole park moaning. Felt sorry for the lad 👦

No. My uncle, Celtic through and through, was in the Malay at the same time as Jock.

Think Jock Wallace’s favourite film was ‘The Hill’.

Then again Jock was in goal for Berwick Rangers in 1967 when they beat their namesakes 1-0, and broke Willie Johnton’s leg in that game, so not all bad.

  12. it is the look on henriks face as he gathers the ball, he knows what he is going to try, and the bravery to try that chip, and from there, against a really top class keeper, they must have hated him.

lest they forget, that was when their cheating was at its prime, how many ebt-ers played that date, i feel i will have to go look it out.

  13. Yes the smsm will elevate Sevcos standing as a world class team.

Maybe they should play Real to determine the bestest team in the whole wide world!

Indeed Los Blancos v Los Wancos.

  14. House of Commons is descending into farce while I was making my tea. A supply teacher has come in as Deputy Speaker, for some reason, and the SNP appear to have been slighted and have walked out.

I didn’t get all the details but it looks like a real farce when dealing with a serious issue in Palestine

I would start with a midfield if Iwata McGregor and Bernrdo, drop O’Reilly and watch how the game developed.

Matt is contributing little at the moment, no man is bigger than the club, easy really

  18. Israeli club Maccabi Haifa’s Europa Conference League play-off second leg in Belgium against Gent must take place behind closed doors, Uefa says.

The decision has been taken for security reasons given tensions from the Israel-Gaza conflict.

Belgium’s Gent host Haifa at KAA Gent Arena on 21 February.

  19. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Guy interviewed on the news just now identified as a “sweet consultant”.

    I want his job.

  20. To repeat some half cocked theory I proposed at the weekend – why play returning players in the first 60 minutes and then allow inferior players to play the last 30 and weaken the team?

I’d rather see a returning CCV on fir a second half against more tired opposition and leave us finishing the game with as strong a team as possible. Same for Greg and AJ and Hatate when fit.

Now can the data geeks and fitba experts telly why that would be a bad idea??

My wife and I are also going to Lisbon to see the stadium in June. Thanks for the advice.

We had also hoped to go to the Euros warm up match between Portugal and Croatia but it is sold so we will go to the stadium on the Sunday or Monday when it is quieter.

I don’t know why they’re still playing. They banned Russian clubs for something similar
