Inter Milan as Stein’s 50th looms

819

The last two teams out of the pots for today’s Europa League draw left to former European Champions.  Celtic will face Inter Milan, who they have met twice before in European competition.  The teams faced in the European Cup Final in 1967, when Celtic won the tournament, and again in the European Cup Semi-final in 1972, when Inter progressed on penalties after two 0-0 draws.

It’s not the draw I would have handpicked but it’s a great draw from many perspectives.  Inter will bring genuinely tier-one talent to Celtic Park, and provide Ronny Deila and the squad with an invaluable chance to test their progress.

The games will take place a few weeks before the 50th anniversary of Jock Stein becoming Celtic manager and set his team on the road to dismantling La Grande Inter.  History is made of great stories and no sporting event in history has been so infused by story telling than the first meeting between these clubs.

If all these stories teach us anything it’s to fear no one.  Bring it on.

Among many great features, we have an interview with Dixie Deans in the 2015 CQN Annual, see above, who among many things, discusses “that penalty”.  Still time to order yours for Christmas.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – oh, and there’s tons of photos, fresh stories and comment on the first time Inter faced the green and white hoops.

  1. Hearing the ticket prices for inter home game on the expensive side

    Tut tur

Great idea from board to help the unemployed with free tickets for the league game this month.

  2. Interesting news this morning that Paul Paton of Dundee United has been accused of spitting on Aberdeens Johnny Hayes in their match at Tannadice at the weekend.

If proven guilty I would expect at least a 7 game ban for a very disgusting offence.

The SFA set the punishment high with Tonev with no evidence. Is spitting worse than racism? It’s certainly on a par with it my book. I will watch this one with interest.

  3. ProudBhoy, £28 for last 32 Europa League.

Doesn’t sound too bad to me.

If you divide the cost of the group stages that’s around £7 more expensive, I thought that reasonable.

  4. Proudbhoy

If you go to the Celtic website you will see ticket prices which go on sale tomorrow to season ticket holders £28 not bad in my opinion.

Did we not get Adam Matthews for free, even though he was under 23 – due to it being a different jurisdiction? If that is so, why would it be any different for John Guidetti?

    Beyond the pale.

There was an element of sarcasm in it. I backed the big fella from the start. I think he is a very able goalie. He is a big jambo though and always will be.

I might live in this town but I am in now way an Edinburgh punter. My wife still calls me a tourist. I don;t know where all the buses go. I don;t know enough street names. I don;t have an Edinburgh accent. My knowledge of pubs is decent.

In saying all that there are days when I love living in the city and their are days I detest it. My wife has noticed a shift in my moods lately. She can tell I am not myself. Boredom is kicking in. I need to get a hobby or some sort of interest midweek and the weekend because I am driving her nuts. I have always been a pretty active guy in the community and through running the CSC. That is not happening now. Thinking cap is going on for the New Year. She is also at me to go back to the fitba. Lots of reasons why I don;t go but the main one is because I want to spend time with the Bhoy. Maybe I should get along more regular? Lots to think about.

I actually think, though I may be wrong, that it’s a ‘Sevco purchase’ cheaper than last season…..£1 :-)

  24. Russell Brand?

Difficult to disagree with this comment from Michael Rosen.

‘For the past four years the radical left has struggled to get itself heard. We can all think of reasons why this might be. Russell Brand is the first person to get through to millions with these ‘left of Labour’ ideas. I hope that we can be humble enough to appreciate that he has reached people that the rest of us from within our left of Labour organisations (including the left IN Labour) have not been able to reach.’

  26. Chievo 0- Inter 2 .

I thought Inter looked much improved . Stood up to a team that tried to kick them off the park/ didnt retaliate and let their superior pace and technique win the game . They lack a cutting edge -Palacio and Icardi are badly out of form.. Next up is Lazio -they will provide a much harder test than Chievo .

Media think that Inter showed signs of improvement . Quick scroll through fan sites suggest most of the fans agree. .

Interesting that both sets of fans chanted — ” Balotelli — Son of a Whore “

  27. Quick bit of praise for the CQN Bookstore:

I ordered Caesar & The Assassin last week and it arrived in Cork in about four days in pristine condition. No mean feat at this time of year. It’s a fantastic service, it really is.

Signed by two legends as well. I reckon Burning_Bush Senior is going to be delighted with his Christmas this year. Thanks lads!

Aye the fitba is in the offing. I will be looking at more games come the New Year.

I have 3/4’s of a book done. It was my goal to finish it this year but it’s not going to happen.

Job situation has no change. They are keeping us hanging on. My wife is in a worse situation than me. She will find out in January if she is being made redundant. She was supposed to find out last week. Shambles. I am now looking elsewhere. We can;t afford to be both out of work and I am treading water here anyway. Need a change.

I have always wanted to be a teacher but for a number of reasons I didn;t get to university. There is still time to look at it again. It was one of the things my wife mentioned the other night. Going back to school and studying may just be what I need to get my brain going.

Until I get it sorted in my head what I want to do hobby wise I will just post my ramblings on here!
