Inter Milan striker has been forced to apologise to his own supporters after he called them “pieces of shit” in the aftermath of yesterday’s 3-1 defeat away to Sassuolo.
Icardi went over to acknowledge the traveling support after the game and attempted to give them his shirt as a thank them for their support. However, the Inter fans were in no mood to accept the gesture and threw his shirt back at him, resulting in the 21-year-old striker exploding with rage.
Along with team mate Fredy Guarín, Icardi got into a heated argument with the Inter supporters which led to him shouting “Pieces of shit, you are all pieces of shit” at the fans.
The defeat leaves Inter 13th in the table and casts some doubt over the future of manager Roberto Mancini who took over in November and has managed to average less than a point a game.
The disharmony in the Inter Milan camp can only be seen as good news for Celtic, with the Italians traveling to Glasgow to play the first leg of the Europa League tie on Thursday February 19.
In contrast to Icardi’s outburst at the Inter support, Celtic’s Norwegian midfield play-maker Stefan Johansen has praised the Celtic support for their backing at Sunday’s Scottish League Cup semi-final victory over Rangers* at Hampden Park.
