  1. It didn’t work out for us today, that’s football.

Changing style from one manager to the next takes time.

Tuesday is massive, I believe we can do it.

But we do need new players.

Today proves we have a lot of players.

    But few of real quality.

Quite a clear out required I think.

    ——————————————————————————————————————–

Which suggests the exercise was worthwhile.

  3. McGeough, Twarzic, Zaluska, Pukki, Punt! Commons: mind seems elsewhere as for Stokes, nuff said: I am glad I live in Australia and could not travel for this game: whits wae Celtic left backs do they not have sight in their left eye: when Iplayed left back albeit Boys Guild, I was always reminded to keep the right winger on my left regardless what was happening to my right. My job was to keep the right winger always on my left and be close enough to make a tackle So much for zoning marking: I don’t get it.

Rather lose 1-0 today and win on Tuesday: obvious comment as long as Ronny learned something.

  4. Today showed that potentially good players need games to get match fit. Henderson and O’Connell need to get more game time.Hopefully that will happen in the coming weeks and months. They need to be slotted into a stable, winning team.

I think Griffiths, Pukki, McGeouch and Zaluska have had ample time to show whether or not they are worth keeping, and as it seems they won’t contribute much for us, they should be moved on.

I doubt Twardzik is good enough to make it and so should also be moved on.

I’m disappointed about today’s result, but it has confirmed my views on certain players especially Pukki and Griffiths. I don’t generally like wholesale changes but in the circumstances I accept what Ronny is doing. We just need to win on Tuesday.

  5. Ronny admits making so many changes at the one time was a mistake. Why did he not know that?

  6. Rwe

Johansen was there for their goal. He tried and failed to intercept and take possssion of the ball, rather than stay goal side of Watkins, put the ball out of play, or force him to turn back.

    That’s because he’s not a left-back.

  7. I’m astounded of forehead that Fat Sally would be considered for a managing appointment anywhere.

The Airdrie and Coatbridge Cinema League would be beyond him.

  8. No replay of the McGregor pen claim but 4, possibly 5 mentions of Caley’s first half penalty shout. Ah well, no surprises there. Expecting a big performance come Tuesday. Up the Celts !

  9. Pfayr – yep… Tom English as much as said McLean was being silly.

RD interview as expected… Hoped the team today would have done better, not much in it, congrats to ICT, on to Tuesday. Everyone on the bus, let’s go.

  10. At least RD will now know who isn’t good enough to step when given the chance, get a result on Tuesday and we might get the chance to bring in a quality target man that I think we have missed for far to long.

  11. My friends in Celtic,

For the manager to make meaningful decisions and judgements on the futures of all the players at his disposal he has to see them playing competitive games.

This was necessary for RD & JC and I trust they will now be in a more knowledgeable position to make the appropriate decisions.

For what is at stake on Tuesday night the team choice today was bold and ambitious, but also the correct one.

    Its a dilemma, no doubt.

Personally, id send some of them to do voluntary work for good causes.

Maybe the Salvation Army could use them in some capacity:)

  13. By the way, McKay came sliding in, foot up and studs showing as Zaluska came out towards the ball. Dangerous play, for me.

Zaluska should still have had his eyes 100% on the ball though.

  14. Visits to the Highlands reinvigorate me but it seems to have the opposite effect on Celtic teams. How many times have we watched displays like that over the years?

A few moments of quality: Pukki has to hit that ball first time; Bitton’s shot was class and the move between Stokes and Commons should have led to a goal.

I have to agree with big Sutton re Pukki, I don’t see it happening for this bhoy at CP.

    Anyway on to Tuesday…

  15. Not surprised by result. Lots of changes and rightly so. Tuesday is number one priority. Everything hangs on tuesday with regards to the quality of incoming players etc. Chance for fringe players to stake a claim. Balde is a goner. Pukki has had his chance also. Need two new strikers.Physical and strong strikers needed.

On a brighter note my ticket has arrived for tuesday. Cannot wait. This is the big one.

We will know by Tuesday night if ten changes could be justified for the loss of three points.

However, much will be posted on RD’s team selection before then, and whether he underestimated a notoriously difficult fixture where better Celtic sides, have previously toiled.

The fringe players especially in striking roles and midfield let him down very badly, and will remain on the fringe. Commons is playing in a huff? – and the star striker who came on, is also non scoring.

RD on a very steep learning curve and the ‘big squad’ he boasted before the game, needs trimming even for the industrial football played in the Scottish highlands.

  17. Thought Commons looked out of sorts, short of confidence, might sound daft but I think he misses Scott Brown behind him.

  18. Kilbowie Kelt will vote YES on

What a sad world it would be if Celtic won every game.

Our bad days are what make our great days so special.

We have become spoiled to the point that we think…

‘ warm days will never end, for Summer has o’erbrimmed our clammy cells’.

God Bless Ronnie Deila & the GREAT Glasgow Celtic.

  19. There will also be a lot of learning for the players on the back of this. RD seems like the type that will have them in watching video playbacks to see what they did right and did wrong, individually as as a team/formation. The players will learn, and if they don’t they shouldn’t be involved in the team.

  20. It’s easy to criticise a team selection after a defeat. Had we scored a couple in the first half, as we should have, and gone on to win the manager’s changes would have been received very differently.

And had a key player played today and picked up an injury that riled him out of Tuesday’s vital match, well we all know what the reaction would have been.

A number of fringe players were given their chance to show the new manager what they could do today. I’m sure he will have learned something about each of them from their efforts. And that can’t be a bad thing as the new boss shapes his squad.

  21. Presented with evidence that the Scottish champions can be beaten by good sides like ICT, Awwy Wamont insists that Ronny admits the league is a foregone conclusion at every opportunity.

What more can he learn from this point, what more can his listeners glean from this line of enquiry? I think his long-term aim is to rubbish Celtic’s achievements ( winning the league or whatever) at the expense of good results from teams like ICT and to pile as much pressure on the new manager as possible.

John Hughes – gent and scholar of football. Great accent too…….

  22. Pukki. Now a failure at every club since he left Finland. Ship him out before his value dives

  23. glendalystonsils on

Today will be vindicated by a win on Tuesday. The league is a marathon, not a sprint.

However,……if we are going to rest key players before important European ties, we will have to replace them with better than today’s understudies.

Anyway, RD is still familiarising himself with his best first team pool, never mind the also rans and never will be’s.

As for playing players out of position, I’m sure RD will learn from the experimentation.

  24. Beatbhoy.

Twarziks no a left back either.

If yer going tae gives kid’s their chance, at least play them in their natural position.

    Roll on tuesday!.

  25. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Oscar Knox, MacKenzie Furniss and anyone else who fights Neuroblastoma on

In all honesty, whilst disappointed at the result and to an extent with the performance, I am not too bothered about this defeat.

The man has a first team squad who are still adapting to his system, many of whom were on show today in their first competitive match under the system.

However, it is also clear that he is looking to bring in at least 4,5 or 6 new faces with a view to those players being first team players.

That then means that many out on the pitch today know that they are second string and in fairness it showed in some today. With the rest they are going to have to adapt tp a rigorous fit and fast regime.

For me, Commons is going to struggle with that. Now, we have a manager who might accommodate someone with Kris’ skillset or we have a manager who is going to be ruthless and say no matter how good you are on the ball you will be fit to challenge and run like buggery for 90 minutes.

At the minute KC doesn’t look comfortable with either the pace of the ball or the movement around him. Only when Stokes came on did he start to show.

Griffiths might be a misfit in this style. Pukki showed nothing. McGregor we know can play. Biton can play a part but is clearly behind Johansen, Kayal and Brown in midfield.

We need a striker, possibly two. Natural wingers, a left back and maybe another creator in the middle of the park with a squad that can fill in around that line up — and the guys on the park either know they are on the way out or they know that they are not there yet and have to impress.

Celtic played like a second string. Not good, not terrible.

It will be a measure of RD’s man management how and who he keeps, puts an arm around and who he tells that full time consideration of another endeavour might be in order.

  26. Met John Hughes on a flight from Birmingham to Edinburgh. He was just coming back from an interview at Swindon which Di Canio ended up getting. Absolute cracking guy. We talked about Celtic all the way up. Really enjoyable chat and a all round good guy.

  27. Thought for the day: Has the number of reactionary posters on CQN increased in tandem with the number who genuinely believe they know much more than the professional management team? Mind boggling shallowness of thought on here after a defeat. I would imagine Sevco fans are like that but we are different…….aren`t we?

……because his comment was for the media ……he knows that team should have done a lot better against ICT….they failed to ‘play’ at all in the second half, and couldn’t raise their game when ICT scored …. too many passengers, who haven’t played together a lot …. Justified changes in view of Tuesday’s game…..MON THE HOOPS
