Israeli recruiting anchor

965

Anchoring to a distant geographical base is not intuitively how you would expect a football club to recruit but Celtic are clearly working their contacts in Israel these days.  Beram Kayal has worked out well in the two and a half years since joining from Maccabi Haifa, as has Nigeria international, Efe Ambrose, who joined from Israeli club Ashdod in the summer.

Neil Lennon recently mentioned he needed cover for left back (despite right-footed Adam Matthews performing heroics there against Barcelona), so it is no surprise that Israel international Rami Gershon is in town today.  Gershon has played less than a dozen games for Standard Liege since leaving Israel three years ago, although he was a regular pick for loan club Kortrijk.  Should he sign he will be a low-risk addition to the squad but he has almost certainly received commendation from the same sources who recommended Kayal and Ambrose.

Best of luck to Rabiu Ibrahim, who left for Kilmarnock after promising much but delivering little as a prodigy at Sporting and PSV Eindhoven.  He was the low-risk addition of last January.  You’ve got to kiss a lot of frogs……

  1. There’s a big difference – in reality and in metaphor between Alcohol and Petrol.

    Poor piece.

    Don’t doubt its veracity.

Was sitting in car earlier waiting to pick my daughter up ,radio 5 on. A station I enjoy listening to as covers a whole spectrum of topics ,my enjoyment immediately ceases the moment that wee nyaff nevin opens his mouth. Total drivel tonight from him tonight again…he would be perfectly suited to snyde.

Sevco fans’ relationship with Rangers is the same as Tony Perkins relationship with his mother in Psycho. Her body’s sitting decomposing in a chair while he brings her cups of tea on a tray, apparently oblivious to the fact that she’s dead!

  7. Has anyone else had an involuntary body function which caused them discomfort at the mention of sevco. I did after work when I stopped for a pint on the way home from work. After pumping about 7 quid in the puggy I walked back to the bar to finish my pint only for the barman to reply to the only punter “Aye Elgin that should be a good game”, said pint was all over me and I put it on the bar, thanked them and left.

I just read Phil’s blog and he makes some good points-especially that we are judged by a higher standard than other teams in Scotland with the laptop loyal itching for a negative story about our crowds behaviour- for an example consider Sevco’s game v Annan where there were 8 arrests while there were 4 tims arrested at the “battle of Dundee”. Which received the press examination?- I’m sure you can guess. What do we do about it?- well having spent last season in 111 I saw at first hand the migration to that area of young GB wannabees, junked up thieves, steamers and junior hard men, all of whom were drawn like moths to a flame, and some of whom acted in ways that made me wish they had never seen Celtic Park. Because of this the GB will be tarnished by these hangers on- after all these guys dress the same and it fits the MSM agenda to demonise us in any way they can- the stewards pretended to police the area but let anyone- so for home games fence off a standing area for the GB and keep the interlopers out- for away games control ticket sales better and ban anyone found guilty of illegal behaviour- and for us- we need to use the internet to point out the truth behind the MSM’s lies and misinformation

Maybe comparing the Schizophrenic Psycopath in “psycho” to a sevco fan is a tad unfair. After all, Norman Bates had totally lost touch with reality and went on a trail of murderous destruction, whereas yer average Sevco fan……………..oh, wait a minute………

  13. ST Renewals (long post feel free to scroll past):

Interesting comments from Bhoys (who signed-up to the ST concept during the ‘Bunnet’ years) and now due to circumstances have had to rethink how they apply their disposable income these days.

I had a ST for 25 unbroken years and took one out for my daughter (when she was at Uni) 15 years ago. I didn’t renew this year and you know what? – 2 tickets @ £600+ and nobody at CP has asked me why – no letter, no email (despite being on the mailing-list).

I turned 60 four years ago and though my income halved (semi-retirement) – I continued to buy my ST (for 3 years) – this despite the trials and tribulations I experienced in the old main stand:

    • CL games and we got dispersed to various pockets around the main stand where spaces were available (the AC Milan last 16 we ended up in section 111 because we asked for 4 tickets together with 2 of our neighbouring ST holders that we sat with at all home games).

    • We attended meetings with PL and the ticket-office – assurances given that we would get priority for cup finals as a means of making up to us for the disruption. Thing was; we were registered on the away scheme, we attended semis (that guaranteed tickets) and the Team didn’t always make the finals.

    • During the 15 year period we were registered on the ‘away scheme’ and we were offered tickets for; Hibs, Motherwell, Livingston and Kilmarnock – strange that during that 15 year period (60+ games) – not once were we offered a ticket for ipox!

    • CL away games – did various packages via Thomas Cook (or the then operator) including overnight stays – but when it came to Seville no ticket. We used the same resources as we did to get to; Blackburn and Liverpool – DIY!

We got to Seville thanks to UEFA.com – we used 20+ credit cards from (our own and family) to pre-book; gold, silver and bronze packages on every single card – fortunately 2 silver tickets came up on my daughter’s card – otherwise we wouldn’t have been there.

Age, income, health and my daughter’s work commitments (travelling abroad) have curtailed attendance this season but it hasn’t stopped limited appearance by us at games – I am fortunate that good Celtic Supporters remember me (and my commitment) and I have managed to get to some of our key games so far!

I still have a burning passion for supporting the Bhoys live – CQN live updates, radio, TV are no substitute – somehow our Board have to address the physical drop in attendance. They need to encourage more parent+child participation and keep the core support pro-active.

    Apologies for the aged rant!

    Poor from Phil.

Tabloid journalism at its best. Joan Burnie would be proud of that lecture.

Is Phil now eating the lamb on Flemings table.

No mention of the scheduling that lets the authorities off.

No mention of the chief security officer admitting that drunkards were admitted.

Methinks if Ambrose had walked off the pitch the club would have fined and suspended him.

I think the club is playing this one badly.
