Israeli recruiting anchor

965

Anchoring to a distant geographical base is not intuitively how you would expect a football club to recruit but Celtic are clearly working their contacts in Israel these days.  Beram Kayal has worked out well in the two and a half years since joining from Maccabi Haifa, as has Nigeria international, Efe Ambrose, who joined from Israeli club Ashdod in the summer.

Neil Lennon recently mentioned he needed cover for left back (despite right-footed Adam Matthews performing heroics there against Barcelona), so it is no surprise that Israel international Rami Gershon is in town today.  Gershon has played less than a dozen games for Standard Liege since leaving Israel three years ago, although he was a regular pick for loan club Kortrijk.  Should he sign he will be a low-risk addition to the squad but he has almost certainly received commendation from the same sources who recommended Kayal and Ambrose.

Best of luck to Rabiu Ibrahim, who left for Kilmarnock after promising much but delivering little as a prodigy at Sporting and PSV Eindhoven.  He was the low-risk addition of last January.  You’ve got to kiss a lot of frogs……

  1. Any likelihood that cash turstyle will ever return? Is this something that freaks out security and the polis?

I am firmly of the view that economics is the major player in falling attendance at games. 5k used to travel from Ireland for every home game. I wonder how many do it now? I used to get to at least 4 games a season, but kids, debts, huge increases in cost of crossing the Irish sea have slowed me down. And i have parents in Glasgow so free place to stay….. It just aint cheap.

I agree with auldheid on this. I could put money in to Celtic more cost effectively than traveling and buying tickets. In fact the cost of tickets is a fraction of the expense most travelling supporters face.

The club needs to get creative. For me an annual membership fee is one way of doing it. It also gives a sense of involvement and ownership for the overseas supporter but could also be bought in to by non active supporters at home or those on low incomes who want to contribute in some way.

OMFG….Stuart Dougal with a Pythonesque performance there on STV news, justifying Golum’s handling of the Edinburgh derby.

I started to get angry and then just burst out laughing….it’s so feckin ridiculous!

You then have someone who is already forking out for a ST plus CL tickets then having to commit to buying an additional 2 CL tickets as well as ticket for an SPL game.

    That’s some extra expense mate.

  4. Apparently the fat pie muncher is unhappy that his shite team are no gettin a winter break. I`ll tell you why, Coisty. It`s only the big teams that qualify. You manage (no laughing at the back) one of the diddy teams who ply their trade in the FOURTH tier of Scottish fitba. Even the bigger teams in the 2 leagues above you are not getting a break. It`s only for the big boys, the ones that play in the league where the champions play, the league in which you can quialify for Europe by being succesful. Winning the Ramsdens cup doesn`t count. Oh, wait a minute……….Anyway, enjoy your fixtures in the wee poxy grounds around Scotland, whilst the REAL champions of Scotland are off for some relaxation in Marbella, earned due to some tasty displays in big leagues and Champions leagues. Why, your team are only months old, what do you need a break for? The girl behind the counter in Greggs needs a break more than you, due to you. I suppose now you`ll DEMAND a break. Well you`re no gettin wan, you are only small fry (not you personally) in Scotland. Enjoy your journey. Ha ha ha ha ha.

  5. jOHN mcglynn says the ref was in a great position to see the the 2 footed tackle from stevenson on james mcpake of hibernian…. another blunder from collum once again…funny he seems to miss incidents in good positions….think he needs to be demoted to lower division..start afresh….then dont hurry back willie cos your useless

  6. Stuart Dougal on STV saysing that Collum handled last night’s match “well” “in the context of the match” ie it was a derby game. What? does that mean that rules are suspended just because the ref thinks it might spoil the match even if players suffers a serious assault. (eg Kayal and Hooper episodes)? These ex refs will never criticise or face up to the fact that referees are incompetent.

  7. Topkat @ 18.30.

Methinks Mr. Collum is deliberately working his ticket, so he can indeed ply his trade in the 3rd Div, and get to ref his heroes games!

SOAL – is he related to Russ Abbot?!

TBB – I hope it’s available online, it’s comedy gold.

At first, I thought that I had imagined it until I read your post….a pantomime horse’s arse of a performance from Dougal !

  9. HT ,

I appreciate that, but , when ST holders were allowed to buy extra tickets for games against other clubs , then they did so in significant numbers.

The key point is no one is ‘forced’ to buy extra tickets.

If you can afford the outlay & can move them on , then you can do so.

If on the other hand , all you want is your own seat, then you have the choice.

  10. clashcitybhoy

i don;t think ST holders are getting a discount for the extra tickets for Juve…

  11. Just watched Stuart Dougal on stv defend wee willie collum after missing the shocking tackle by Ryan Stevenson of Hearts last night

    .

He said the referee was correct not to book the player

These ex referees are always pulled out to defend the errors of their brothers

watched Joe Ledley given a straight red for a tackle on Black at tynecastle November 2010.It was nowhere near as dangerous at that one last night

MIB’s Sod the lot of them

  12. bt

St holders are not getting a discount on he extra tickets… £49 I think they are…

    Hail Hail!

  13. BT,

    Agreed,

My point related to one of my inane rants earlier, about the way that if ST holders buy extra tickets, then they effectively become salesmen / ambassadors for the club and help fill capacity.

For the Juve match , my son has mates who are looking for tickets , and who visit CP maybe only once or twice a season.

If there was a clever way that , we could get these guys who want to attend the glory games, to also attend the less glamorous games, by linking the purchase, then it is beneficial for all.

Pick up a couple of “scurrilous hillbillies” earlier. One with broken fingers and clutching Super Lager in other hand. His darling wife had a black eye and both were drunk at 17.00.

After a couple of stops were they tried to raise money for the taxi fare, I eventually cut my losses and told them to forget it. So £7 lost.

Couple of jobs later picked up a 82 yr old Irish woman from co Mayo. She was suffering from lung cancer and her son in law 62 had 6 weeks to live due to liver and lung cancer.

Her £3.50 fare was paid with a ten pound note, saying “keep the change and get yourself and your family a drink for the New Year”

    Despite protestations she insisted.

Finished work feeling upbeat and faith redeemed.

Her money will go to Cancer Research.

God Bless her and her son in law.

    Auldheid geez peace.

Same to watch on TV as going to the game?

Are you Dermott Desmond’s love child?

    =====================

Where did I say that ?

Give yourself peace and read what I said. No where did I say prices should be equal, that would not make sense and I thought I was making a sensible point to sensible folk.

  16. If there are any friendly season ticket holders out there that have not used their allocation for one or two extra tickets and wouldn’t be adverse to applying for a ticket for me please email me at asithought99@yahoo.com

  17. Stevebhoy,

Thats funny – the SB holders that sit near me and nearly everyone on the bus I go on have said we have been absolutely mince at home (and occassionally away) this season.

Also funny you call me a consumer – isnt that what you are? After all its all about the money rather than the footy at CP isnt it?

I am not a consumer I am a Celtic Supporter – and there is no way you or anyone else is going to muscle out myself or people like me. The malcontents will win. Telling (sorry suggesting) that I go and watch another team is tantermount to saying that you dont want to have anyone who disagrees with you around.

By the way I have been to a few St Mirren games this year – they have been a fair bit more entertaining than watching Celtic at CP this season in the SPL. Says a lot does it not?

  18. Bobbyrussell

Great rant about Sally not getting a winter break. Honestly, I had the same one earlier. Great minds think a like or fools seldom differ?

  19. neganon2

So last 16 champions league, nine points clear with a game in hand in the SPL and stillin the two domestic cups is mince? That must be a happy wee bus you are on. Do you have a sing song on the way home from games?

    Hail Hail!
