Israeli recruiting anchor

965

Anchoring to a distant geographical base is not intuitively how you would expect a football club to recruit but Celtic are clearly working their contacts in Israel these days.  Beram Kayal has worked out well in the two and a half years since joining from Maccabi Haifa, as has Nigeria international, Efe Ambrose, who joined from Israeli club Ashdod in the summer.

Neil Lennon recently mentioned he needed cover for left back (despite right-footed Adam Matthews performing heroics there against Barcelona), so it is no surprise that Israel international Rami Gershon is in town today.  Gershon has played less than a dozen games for Standard Liege since leaving Israel three years ago, although he was a regular pick for loan club Kortrijk.  Should he sign he will be a low-risk addition to the squad but he has almost certainly received commendation from the same sources who recommended Kayal and Ambrose.

Best of luck to Rabiu Ibrahim, who left for Kilmarnock after promising much but delivering little as a prodigy at Sporting and PSV Eindhoven.  He was the low-risk addition of last January.  You’ve got to kiss a lot of frogs……

  1. STV did a great job for Scottish football this evening. They had the perpetrator of THAT foul at Tynecastle last night defending himself and S Dougal, former ref of this parish, defending Collum for not sending him off, as Collum was acting in the spirit of the game. You couldn’t make it up.

It will certainly be interesting to see if the £50 kids “opt out” season ticket or an alternative will be available next season? I was fortunate to purchase 2 of the these this season for 2 of my kids before they were officially withdrawn, when Dundee were declared as club 12.

Perhaps, the modern day version of the father & son gate?

I didn’t renew my ST this season as my bhoy ( who i went tothe games with) went away to Uni and I realised I wouldn’t make a few of the games …disaster ..didnae get any CL tickets and I’ve had to encounter a load of hassle every time I want to go to a game

I’ll be renewing next season for sure

  10. Just nipped on for a quick look at what’s being discussed , what about the club looking at linking the season ticket with travel to match included .

We used to do something similar but there must be several different ways of doing this , depending on your location .

Local deals for those in and around Glasgow.

Deals for those coming from England or North of Scotland .

Another option for those coming from Ireland.

These deals would get more people to the games and would benefit the different transport groups by increasing customer numbers using their services.

Another thing we miss out on is getting supporters up to the ground early , hotel / bars / cafes etc . All showing Celtic matches / player interviews etc , with possibly players from the past meeting supporters .

Having a large covered area where fans can sit , meet mates etc without the Scottish weather ruining the experience .

More punters up around ground earlier increases the potential money intake by the club.

Sorry for the rant but I don’t think we have even scratched the surface of enhancing the supporters experience on match days .

Thanks for reading and any comments welcome.

  12. Robert Tressell,

You’re right, of course. Too many want success NOW and some are even convinced that it will come by buying the likes of Griffiths or Higdon, and lamenting our letting the likes of McGinn go. These players are NOT Celtic class and never will be. They don’t have to play against packed defences every week or have the bejasus kicked out of them, with the MIBs happily ignoring their illtreatment. It takes a special type of mhan to fill the Celtic jersey and we have plenty of them now, thanks to our manager and his backroom staff.

A membership scheme is exactly what is needed, why in this day and age it has not been implemented before is beyond me.HH

    ———————————————

It almost was but lets just say the mood music was not quite right at the time.

The Overseas Season Book could be a step in that direction as well as changing circumstances (CL money to invest in creating and developing a wider membership service for example)

No wonder they are moaning. The other team has a one man advantage. It’s like reffing Sevco in the 3rd Division.

  17. Listened to Snyde tonight, I know I know I know, curiosity killed the cat and all that.

In the past four years or however long since the McLash or Mcleish or whatever it was report into the state of fitba in this country I do not remember it being talked about till the huns died.

On a completely separate note I think there is a law in Scotland to do with:-

When there is an important application for a contract in Scotland or a major planning application for a future development of a (brown site), or sale of a contract to bid for, then it is the law that it has to be placed in local media or (Edinburgh Paper). Why was there no introduction to bid for land development on the Ibrox site which was close to the airport and may be of interest to developers. Are there any planners or developers out there who may oppose the quick sale of prime development land out there that has now curiously increased in price from a mere 3-5 million to 70 million in the space of a few months. To think I used to own a flat off Paisley Road West drives me insane. At these rates I could be almost be a millionaire if I had just kept that one bedroom flat.

This seriously needs looking in to.
