Great to see so many names from years ago back on the blog yesterday. As well as the jetsam and flotsam of life at Celtic, there have been times when the blog has had real value to the few, and occasionally, to the many. Once or twice, we’ve made a real difference to our club.
Our ability to add value correlates directly with the great contributions which appear here; sometimes when people offer remarkable insight, sometimes when many aggregate their thoughts to analyse an issue.
My guess is that there will be moments in the next decade when that insight and aggregation will be needed, so thanks to everyone who keeps the place sane through the flotsam days, before the biggies emerge. Thanks also for yesterday’s enormous support. The untold stories of acts of kindness and generosity from the community over the decade are so numerous they are no longer exceptional. It’s a great place to be a part of.
There are changes ahead. A new blog design is on the way and the Quick News section will retire this summer. Canajunbhoy has exclusively posted the section in the wee small hours for the best part of the decade, so he more than deserves peace to hang up his keyboard. My sincere thanks for all his help.
CQteN was an enormous success and built three school kitchens in Malawi for Mary’s Meals (photos from the last two are on the way). It was also enormous fun. We’re going to do it again, although I’m not sure yet if it has the legs to be an annual event/bi-annual or other. Open to ideas.

Personally I like Stokes he has his weaknesses and is certainly not a CL level player,playing in the scottish premiership tends to disguise those weaknesses somewhat as he bangs in the goals. If the rumours are true re his imminent demise I would suspect it has more to do with work ethic and his ability to adapt rather than anything else.
The manager wants us to play a pressing game high up the park I don’t believe Anton has this in his locker for the full 90 mins, hope I am wrong but watching him over the past few I have just seen anything from him to convince me otherwise.
I think Ronnie Deila is going to need our patience. I am not convinced with the squad from the midfield forward. Set up to frustrate others in the CL we will be hard to beat but we havent got talented enoughspeed enough up front to snatch goals from the scraps we will be feeding the attack minded players.
Oops should read watching him over the past few seasons I have just not seen….,.otherwise

I agree that NFL’s team’s played like he played … hard to break down, but not so great going forward ….
I cant say that I ever say RD play, but what I have heard about his style of coaching and how he wants his teams to play is encouraging.
I think NFL’ was such a big personality that his mindset has been stamped into some of the players, and it will take some time to change the style of play, but I am prepared to give RD and the players a fair crack at it.
I think there may be a few bumps on the way this season (which often happens when you change coaches/style of play), but I am really quite excited about the upcoming season.

Info is about 6 years old but there were 8k or so in 2008 travelling from all Ireland. Not sure if that scales down with general decline in numbers or not.

However, when the final came my loyalty was divided between wanting Germany (best team in the tournament) and Argentina winning it. (canny stand the CBF, me)
Sadly, that didny happen and after the announcement of ex-player agent, Gilmar as “Technical Advisor” the name being hotly tipped for tomorrow’s announcement, as the new manager of the National side will be ………….

One thing I would say is that while I agree that NFL didn’t do enough with the ball when he got it, in his day, there were few better defenders in Europe at reading a game …. he was never the fastest player, but I rarely saw him caught out of position …. he seemed to be two moves ahead of most of his teammates (and often the opposition) and was often well placed to intercept a pass even before it was made!
And, for all the crap he had to endure just for being a Celt … and did endure because he loved the Club …. he will always be a Legend in my eyes!
Okay …. going to throw caution to the wind here….

Without serious injection of quality, sectional stage should we qualify will simply be a repeat of last year.

there is a big element who miss thems but I really think its more to do with money . even some of the champions league games are poorly supported .travel arrangements are also a factor . the club I travel with are not travelling to Edinburgh tomorrow bwcause we couldnt be accomodated on the boat home. CP and fellow supporters dont always help either , a few busses missed the boat home last season because of the tight schedule and the boat company dont hold the boat for a few coaches, Personally I would be happy never to play thems in the league again.

all of these things impact on numbers and previously clubs had to have large numbers of season books for the bigger games to accommodate running a bus. the financial implications of running a bus half full was unsustainable as it is for every supporters bus . the re-scheduling of games is a big problem when boats have been booked and not always able to be changed. (oh the trials of supporting Celtic its worth every last hassle)

A more amusing story about the boat from myself.
We went to the first Celtic Festival in Bundoran. It was a Celtic v Rangers match at Ibrox that weekend. The game Bellamy scored. We stopped at Lurgan on the Sunday and watched the game in their club befroe getting the ferry home. After a great weekend and a brilliant result we boarded the ferry in great spirits and the party was in full swing on the bus leaving the ferry. We passed a whole load of Rangers fans waiting to get on the ferry we just got off in their buses and cars with their mouths wide open in surprise at our bus bouncing off the ferry wall to wall hoops tops. There was no abuse just a look on their faces that was thinking where the hell have they came from?
Very funny end to a great trip. Pity the season didn;t end on such a happy note.
