Johansen becomes second Celtic addition

818

I’ve seen nothing of Stefan Johansen but I’m delighted we have signed a central midfield player.  Deficiencies up front are glaring, especially in the Premiership, but in Europe, the critical area is central mid, where we need to control more than we did this season.

Central midfield protects your defence and provides the foundations strikers stand on, it has been an important area for Celtic to strengthen since losing our top man last summer.

Conversely, Scott Brown is playing his best football since joining Celtic in 2007 but, as his European adventures were nullified by disciplinary action, the gap was unbridgeable.  Honourable mentions should go to Charlie Mulgrew, Beram Kayal and Joe Ledley, but in the case of Charlie and Joe, they were asked to play secondary, or tertiary roles, while Beram was promoted from well down the pecking order to a Champions League starter.

Please observe the usual caveats when a new player arrives.  New club, new city, new tactics, team mates, match officials and game atmosphere, Stefan has a lot to assimilate in the coming weeks.  It took six months for Victor to settle and at least as long before Mikael, Scott and Joe looked their best.

For Stefan and Holmbert Fridjonsson the primary objective of the next six months is to prepare for Champions League qualifiers, closely followed by a Scottish Cup tie against Aberdeen in three weeks.

Welcome to Celtic, Stefan.  You have a fantastic opportunity ahead.

  3. No problem Bourne. I don’t see this as black and white and I think an element of blame lies with the GB. I suspect like you my ideal is a packed and vibrant park watching the hoops.

I am however head-shakingly dismayed at the ulterior motive brigade. They are just bonkers.

Are we saying that we were infiltrated that fateful night by Motherwell subversives ? (Pulls up chair and pours glass of wine).

Counter proposal – we have some over exuberant bad boys in our support who enjoy a drink and a raucous night out ?

Yes, I fully understand that but, up until it was revealed that it was revealed that these guys were from motherwell, we were lead to believe that it was the Green Brigade. Now we know that it wasn’t the Green Brigade, we are left with the question of, who were they?

  5. Paranoia strikes deep in the heartland…never mind showing Harald missing a penalty, I reckon the BBC read Badabing’s post earlier about Judith being ‘back on Champions League form…looking forward to 18.55’ and pulle

  7. I have a grandson Patrick, just turned seven. When should I take him to Parkhead for max effect. His family have no real interest in fitba although they are well aware of my love -“Can we come round or are you watching your team”. We will need to put them all up overnight in a Glasgow hotel as we live too far away for a daytrip. Any thoughts?

I’m interested in us all knowing what really went on re club and GB, seems some fans are now using non exsisting examples to highlight issues they have with GB. The walk you talk about just didn’t haapen, I do however know what you’re talking about at a game as GB members were trying to gain entry several members were being refused admission and were others were being searched and generally harassed as well as being intimindated by stewards and Fucus. No one from Celtic had notified these season ticket holders that there was a problem prior to the game even though Celtic had all their details, phone no’s etc. The group as a whole made the decision that as result of this all members would stay out unless all were admitted. The following home game all the fans were let in and we still await an explanation from Celtic on why some were to be excluded that day.

As an aside it was interesting that the stewards made sure that no one else sat or stood in that section that day. 111 is regulary overcrowded and Celtic have refused GB permission to police the section to prevent this from happening but their stewards find it impossible to stop infiltrators entering 111, hence damage to seats.

While I don’t necessarily agree with the banner that was displayed on CL night, I find no problem with them in domestic games. My problem is the clubs support for the OB bill and their sanitising of the Celtic support. Lawell doesn’t speak for me neither does DD but I accept they are in control, that doesn’t mean I have to fall in line behind them at the back of the bus.

  9. Henr1ck Celtic have been ignoring their support and contibuting to the criminalisation of the support. A letter from me means absolutely nothing.

Not buying a season ticket or merchandising next season – now that really will mean someting to them. I will NOT go back until our so called leaders have apologised or have been removed.

You got a link to that? I really honestly don’t remember that. I’d go as far as to say that statement is false and another urban myth perpetuated by some against the GB. If you can provide a link to you story or otherwise prove GB said they sold tickets to fans outwith their group I’ll apologise.

  11. Wavy, if nobody from the Green Brigade was involved in the Motherwell fiasco, how can the finger of blame lie solely with them?

I am afraid the horse has bolted re The Green Brigade. I can’t see Celtic putting the clock back and I would suspect that many of the young lads themselves, feeling hard done by, have probably chucked it by this stage. I think we need to look to the future, we need to recreate some of the atmosphere in a post Green Brigade era, the answer almost certainly lies in a safe standing area. I believe standing areas in general would give Scottish soccer a lift and I believe the Celtic Board should do all in their power to make it a reality. Now its off to the boozer for corkcelt, check in tomorrow. God Bless.

  14. BBC shortbread pack as many negatives as they can into a Celtic good news story of our latest signing. What pathetic behaviour from their hurting hun staff. In the old days every other sports news was peppered with clips of the hun or some other team scoring against us. Some say beeb scotland is reasonable and unbiased . I beg to differ.

  15. Neganon – pointless fines for our club, the pyros and taking themselves far too seriously. (Third one is a minor yet irritating offence).

They bring colour and noise which is sooper but shouldn’t be used as a blank cheque to cash against..

The problem with a safe standing area is it will attract those same fans who would wish to be associated with GB and as a result we will have another “GB” type situation, as the board will again target those that it sees as troublemakers.

We have seen at games since the banning of GB, totally over the top stewarding directed towards young fans who are only trying to contribute to the atmosphere.

  17. Stairheedrammy on

Wavy- looks like you need to question the stories your read in the DR. No GB arrested at Motherwell and yet you still blame them- get a grip

  18. djynwa67

That’s a different question. If the club have made the direct link I would hope that common sense prevails and it helps facilitate a thaw in relationship.

  19. The treatment of the GB leaves a nasty taste in the mouth that does not go away.

They never did that much wrong compared to the great atmosphere they created.

There was a witch-hunt from police ,SMS and hurting hun and there was a smear campaign against them. Sadly some of our support got taken in by it.

If they are not allowed back in the overall attendances will fall .

While I accept pyros are part of the ultra scene, again can I ask if you have any links to back up your claims that GB is responsible for pyros at games? Loads of those in attendance at Motherwell reported that the pyros were being thrown from top tier and GB were in lower tier so that seems to rule them out. The guy arrested at Celtic Park in the euro game earlier this year wasn’t in section 111 nor was he a member of GB. So again can I ask that you back up your claims please. I only ask as I believe there is a lot of mis information about the GB being spread, all these urban myths are now being cited as truth.
