Johansen becomes second Celtic addition

818

I’ve seen nothing of Stefan Johansen but I’m delighted we have signed a central midfield player.  Deficiencies up front are glaring, especially in the Premiership, but in Europe, the critical area is central mid, where we need to control more than we did this season.

Central midfield protects your defence and provides the foundations strikers stand on, it has been an important area for Celtic to strengthen since losing our top man last summer.

Conversely, Scott Brown is playing his best football since joining Celtic in 2007 but, as his European adventures were nullified by disciplinary action, the gap was unbridgeable.  Honourable mentions should go to Charlie Mulgrew, Beram Kayal and Joe Ledley, but in the case of Charlie and Joe, they were asked to play secondary, or tertiary roles, while Beram was promoted from well down the pecking order to a Champions League starter.

Please observe the usual caveats when a new player arrives.  New club, new city, new tactics, team mates, match officials and game atmosphere, Stefan has a lot to assimilate in the coming weeks.  It took six months for Victor to settle and at least as long before Mikael, Scott and Joe looked their best.

For Stefan and Holmbert Fridjonsson the primary objective of the next six months is to prepare for Champions League qualifiers, closely followed by a Scottish Cup tie against Aberdeen in three weeks.

Welcome to Celtic, Stefan.  You have a fantastic opportunity ahead.

The definition of ‘politics in football’?

A west of Scotland football club playing in green and white, sporting a four leafed clover on the shirt and flying an Irish tricolour above the ground; discuss…

In some respects McGeady was better but Forrest can get a cross over and is a better goal scorer .

He hasnt the outragious skills of of Aiden who often flattered to deceive.

  3. Yeah there was contradiction there professor – well noted, it was deliberate. I used it to highlight the irony of having all the young talented players we have and rigidly sticking to one who has been given ample chances ( ok he has been injured I know) to shine and has failed to produce.

Einstein once wrote insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

When was the last time James Forrest wowed the crowed for even 45 out of 90 mins?

When did he come off the park having had some full back in his pocket?

When did he last regularly during a match take up good position?

When was he last lauded for spraying a few passes around and linking well within the team structure?

Does he regularly drop a shoulder and curl a shot to either far corner?

Is constantly mention in commentary for demanding the ball and getting involved?

You tell me, everytime I go and see him he is ordinary to say the least.

Its only an opinion perhaps you see something I don’t.

Plenty of people on here probably love him, it might be the reason they go and see celtic- because he is playing.

I don’t reside in Scotland but if there are real issues as you describe it regarding blessing yourself then taking that civil campaign to the streets or a pressure group like we did in the wee six seems the right answer. Boycotting celtic matches or waving a political banner during a game of football seems wide of the mark to be honest.

Always really fancied the idea of Bavaria / Black Forest, mountains, trees, lakes, fresh air (foreign, big Centre Parcs with sunshine, fairytale castles and big rivers, beer) and I think this year might well be it for me, Wee BGFC and the ghirls.

But where to start looking? Looking for a good travel site / suggestions (must have a local pub with traditional serving wenches, for me and Wee BGFC watch Germany in the World Cup).

    Any ideas?

On a day we sign a new player, in a week where young boys and newer players have shown bright future prospects and during a month when the new Dark Side’s future is even darker some on this site….

    Talk of the GB

    Talk of the BBC

Talk to rubbish our own players

That is my position too. Not enough delivery for the team when the chips are down. He still has to prove that his promise will deliver. It has not happened yet and I really doubt that he has the ability and dedication to get there. Hope to be proved wrong; we will see.

Let’s reduce our club to a shambles by boycotting…….it’s the future.

    Aye

Lets boycott natural progression as well while we are it

2 free birds with one stone so to speak :)

  10. Big Wavy ordinarily I would agree. However I think you are underestimating the problem in Scotland. What happenned to the GB told us what happens if you protest in modern scotland. Dawn raids on false pretences. Celtic are a massive part of the problem. The club that was formed to represent us are now joining in on the victimisation. Not only dont they deserve our support but we need to rescue the vehicle that our forefathers had for figthing back.

Its probably the most awful situation we have ever faced. But we can rescue the club because they are so dependent on us. Macjay1 sickened me – he hates his fellow supporters. Why?

    ——-

Yeah Aiden could be a bit flash with little substance. In the main though, I think he’s the best young Celt I’ve seen since McStay.

He can at times come in for some very unfair criticism. The pundits on RTE regularly lay into McGeady after Ireland games despite the fact he’s continually one of our better performers. He’s really addressed the defensive side of his game from what I’ve seen of him playing for Ireland though I confess I didn’t see too much of him at Spartak.

  12. Oh and by the way…

Aiden McGeady & James Forrest….both excellent footballers…both made in the east end….and (though some will never allow themselves to do it) both to be enjoyed and cherished.

  13. Since we have drifted so far off topic I shall repeat the original question:

If the Green Brigade weren’t responsible for the destruction of Fir Park, who is responsible & what club are they aligned to considering all offenders are from Motherwell? I do accept that we will not know the names of said vandals due to the fact they’re all minor’s but thats not important.

Also, a public apology (from the club) wouldn’t go a miss either since they have been publicly disgraced, or am I missing something here?

  14. GerryBhoy

Sadly holidays are a thing of the past for me, in saying that, I am permanently on holiday, so things ain’t too bad, beautiful countryside, superb weather most of the year, cheap vino, and a pack of dogs, what more could a man ask for, miss the football back home mind you.

It’s not the banner, it’s not even the colour green. It’s the fact they hurt so much, whilst we prosper, that motivates their hatred.

PS You are aware what happened to the young lads in the GB when they tried to walk to the game ?

  16. Bonsoir !!!

I am replete full of wine and prawn linguine so anything I say should be taken with a pinch of salt……….except this.

Liam Henderson is the future of the Celtic midfield.

And Calvin Miller will spearhead our attack in the next couple of years.

    All being well.

They are, frankly, outstanding and way beyond their years.

Celtic continued a process of signing players we dont need. I disagree wholeheartedly with Pauls lead here. We are desperate for a striker but we get another midfielder. Why? well to make money of course.

I’m just here for the football. My politics reside in another place where they belong. And the changing landscape of what passes in politics has been as a result of changing times. It’s called pragmatism, we seen it in Ireland and with Mandela. Problem we have is the green brigade have not seemingly grown that particular skill yet, which is more the pity really.

You live there and I don’t but in using the example of the north of Ireland it sounds like the club Cliftonville was under attack but not the wider catholic society. These grievances need tackled but it seems that Celtic is in the vanguard to lead it ?

The legislation is an ass and you’d hope that it is binned but I’m struggling to make the connection with anything bigger in society. Surely the Masonic golf club society is on the wane ??

Their political stance seems to be identical to that of the Celtic trust.

The “war criminal” accusations against John Reid and the upside down banners.

The clincher for me was the “kettling”farce where it seemed that the G.B. were deliberately provocative and achieved the derided result. The Celtic trust rides to the rescue, the rally in George Sq.surrounded by hundreds of good Celtic supporters who,in my opinion were simply duped by the machinations of the C.T.

The C.T. want a seat on the Board. The G.B. are the disposable cannon fodder.

Good holidays in Germany are very much available, so we take advantage of that. We had a brilliant 2 weeks on a Scotland tour with 6 of our German relatives.
