Johansen becomes second Celtic addition

818

I’ve seen nothing of Stefan Johansen but I’m delighted we have signed a central midfield player.  Deficiencies up front are glaring, especially in the Premiership, but in Europe, the critical area is central mid, where we need to control more than we did this season.

Central midfield protects your defence and provides the foundations strikers stand on, it has been an important area for Celtic to strengthen since losing our top man last summer.

Conversely, Scott Brown is playing his best football since joining Celtic in 2007 but, as his European adventures were nullified by disciplinary action, the gap was unbridgeable.  Honourable mentions should go to Charlie Mulgrew, Beram Kayal and Joe Ledley, but in the case of Charlie and Joe, they were asked to play secondary, or tertiary roles, while Beram was promoted from well down the pecking order to a Champions League starter.

Please observe the usual caveats when a new player arrives.  New club, new city, new tactics, team mates, match officials and game atmosphere, Stefan has a lot to assimilate in the coming weeks.  It took six months for Victor to settle and at least as long before Mikael, Scott and Joe looked their best.

For Stefan and Holmbert Fridjonsson the primary objective of the next six months is to prepare for Champions League qualifiers, closely followed by a Scottish Cup tie against Aberdeen in three weeks.

Welcome to Celtic, Stefan.  You have a fantastic opportunity ahead.

  1. I know I’m a broken record and there is all manner of different conversations taking place, but can someone in a high place with good contacts and the ear of the manager, fluent in Japanese and willing to take a low risk with a high return please pass on this name:

    YOICHIRO KAKITANI.

    Hooper’s replacement, but better.

I disagree mi amigo, we need someone from the midfield who can see a killer pass, hopefully the new fella can provide this.

Our present strikers imo haven’t been getting great service, I have watched Anto and even Pukki making runs and the ball goes sideways, yet they are the ones who get slated.

Though I do agree we need a replacement for Hooper.

macjay1 – yeah run – you are absolutely despicable. A horrible character. If you want a debate then lets do it. But you want because you are a sychophantic coward.

Big wavy your post makes no sense whatsoever. Celtic are most certainly in no vanguard to tackle institutional racism in scotland. Far from it they are propping it up.

I don’t think the Celtic Trust would be THAT silly, would they…????

The Celtic Trust will never get a seat on the Board……specific ‘skills’ are required

  5. McGeady Forrest and other talented scots-irish need the kind of continental coaching that transformed Paul Lambert into a top notch player.

    Guys,

A wee reminder that there is a Race Night on the 28th February in the CSA, London Road…

Just to be clear – is “Race Night” a celebration of positive racial stereotypes…or is it betting on pre-recorded horse races?

  8. Recent signings….past couple of years….all have one eye on sell on potential……just one established player for the long term would be nice

  9. GerryBhoyHa ha! I took early retirement last year. At 63 I’m a happy golfer and my wife still has 10 years to go before she retires. Am a sandbhoy with that! Good holidays in Germany are very much available, so we take advantage of that. We had a brilliant 2 weeks on a Scotland tour with 6 of our German relatives. They loved it but I like their country too!

Is that why you are Gerrybhoy? :))

You are in Spain, I believe. A great country too. We have a friend who is retired but is having trouble selling her beautiful house near Valencia (a great city). Issues for retired Brits there, given the economic situation. Got to say, loved Sevilla but…. not the result!

  12. Googybhoy….you must be praying for final whistle. What a finish for both dzeko goals….

googybhoy – do you want a date too?

Exiled Tim – when the hun were in their pomp I remember lauging at their propensity to buy left sided midfielders. It became hilarious. The thing is that celtic arent buying to build a team – they are buying to make money. The team is secondary as are results. It makes me laugh that we think NL is making these decisions. Of course he isnt. Celtic are the harlaam globe trotters of football – without being as good. We are a whore on the alter of money.

Never saw the programme, would have been close enough, there are not that many areas that have caves, and most are in this area, there is a village about 5 miles away from me, over 90% of the village are cave houses, some small hamlets are 100% cave houses.

I live just outside a village called Cortes de Baza, as rural as it gets, slow, slow slow, and as hun free as it gets, just the way I like it.

“Wowed the crowd for 45 minutes or 90 minutes”? It’s a nice thought but by your original statement of him being “clearly not good enough”. So if a youngster does not wow the crowd for the majority of the match he should be punted. Incidentally in our last match against Galatasaray I thought JF was excellent.

Tell me which current Celtic player has wowed the crowd? The last one? Henrik. You seem to be setting unobtainable standard for our up and coming youth players.

I never said JF was any kind of world beater, but I have seen him do the things you a listed. I believe his assists/goals ratio per game is very good for a winger.

I just don’t get this negativity to our homegrown players. Get behind him, he’s one of our own.

  18. Neganon

Sorry you didn’t get it but I guess that proves to me that as I play back what I think you’re saying it has no logic.

Celtic propping up sectarianism ? That’s just a ridiculous thing to say.

What’s the SNP got to do with the GB defying Celtic Football Club and put banners up about Bobby Sands? What’s Bobby Sands got to do with Celtic on a European night. There’s tens of thousands of Scottish people who support the Tic and who have no interest in the Irish politics. My Da and my Uncle John and their Da

  21. Good luck to young Stefan. For too long the pressure has bee all on commons to provide the ammunition for the strikers or to unlock defences. Hope this bhoy is the answer but feel we may have seen the last of joe and sammy….
