Johansen becomes second Celtic addition

818

I’ve seen nothing of Stefan Johansen but I’m delighted we have signed a central midfield player.  Deficiencies up front are glaring, especially in the Premiership, but in Europe, the critical area is central mid, where we need to control more than we did this season.

Central midfield protects your defence and provides the foundations strikers stand on, it has been an important area for Celtic to strengthen since losing our top man last summer.

Conversely, Scott Brown is playing his best football since joining Celtic in 2007 but, as his European adventures were nullified by disciplinary action, the gap was unbridgeable.  Honourable mentions should go to Charlie Mulgrew, Beram Kayal and Joe Ledley, but in the case of Charlie and Joe, they were asked to play secondary, or tertiary roles, while Beram was promoted from well down the pecking order to a Champions League starter.

Please observe the usual caveats when a new player arrives.  New club, new city, new tactics, team mates, match officials and game atmosphere, Stefan has a lot to assimilate in the coming weeks.  It took six months for Victor to settle and at least as long before Mikael, Scott and Joe looked their best.

For Stefan and Holmbert Fridjonsson the primary objective of the next six months is to prepare for Champions League qualifiers, closely followed by a Scottish Cup tie against Aberdeen in three weeks.

Welcome to Celtic, Stefan.  You have a fantastic opportunity ahead.

  1. A player I would like to see in the hoops is Robert Snodgrass and I expect he would move to Celtic in an instant if given the chance.

I believe the player is a hoops fan and loves his family and friends time in Glasgow so that should help a bit with the wages

When are the club going to spend some serious dosh on the established players that we need ? The support need to stop supporting, this is a good idea as they will then be forced to think where the money came from. I

  3. The other youngster are deemed not good enough, or they would be in the first team. With the exception of James Forrest, who quite often gets a game despite being plainly not good enough.

  4. Starheid – no animosity from me fella. I just disagree with parts of the GB proposition. I’m here for the football. Maybe we’ve lost sight of that face somewhere along the way

  5. Watching a bit a of the Man City game . A team ,well a squad full of very top notch international players that we can only dream of signing. Yet ……..plenty of empty seats!!??!

Clear contradiction in that statement mate. I despair when James Forrest is deemed “clearly not good enough.”

Can I ask what standard of youth are you looking for when JF is “clearly not good enough”? Messi?

Exactly! The Shortbread TV sports “commentators” are unrepentant, unreconciled, until now unpunished, bigoted, closet sectarian, hurting Huns; and I love it BTW.

Big Wavy – thank you for the response. I dont believe the GB have been found guilt of Pyros. As for fines I have already explained the position regarding the so called political banner. It is astonishing that free speech is being denied celtic supporters whilst sectarian singing goes on unquestionned at Ibrox.

As for taking themselves seriously – well what has happenned to them is very serious indeed. I hear this a lot mainly from older celtic supporters. What is this – jealousy?

The ship has sailed on the GB and is about to set sail on many celtic supporters. The genie is out of the bottle – celtic are in grave danger of losing its soul. Starving the board of its money is the only answer. They have colluded with the sectarian society we live in. Its unnacceptable and wrong on every level and you are making excuses for it.

First and foremost, Welcome to our new Norwegian player of the year, I think he will be a right good player for Celtic and possibly be the missing link from Midfield.

It is interesting to see the responses from the PLC of Celtic these days. Money is indeed an Idol, that is NOT Celtic. I used to do a Direct Debit for the NSPCC for a tenner and they started sending me letters if I could up it to 20 with the most heartbreaking story alongside it. They then started phoning me and and asked if I’d do a questionaire. WTF?

I dodged the phone questionaire but I eventually started it, to stop them phoning me, I knew then that the Charity wasn’t doing what it should whilst it has £100,000+ people getting money as a salary.

My minute tenner was lost to that organisation, I now know a small fraction would have made its way to the intended recipients.

No doubt, that is 100% true. What is abhorrent is the number of Tims who have jumped on bandwagon of Celtic’s enemies.

No matter how many times they are shown to lie and manipulate about us, a significant portion of Celtic fans still bite and fall in line.

  16. Guys,

A wee reminder that there is a Race Night on the 28th February in the CSA, London Road in aid of Sean’s Trust. Tickets are £5 each. CQN are sponsoring one of the Races. The CSA have waived their fee for the Hall and there will be a finger buffet provided.

You can also buy a horse and jockey for £2 each.

I know we are all recovering from Christmas but if you would like a ticket or buy a horse and jockey you can get in touch lennybhoycfc@gmail.com or for those that have my number text me.

Cracking place to go on holiday, absolutely marvelous in every way. However, am going to break with custom and have a few days in The Vulkan Eiffel next month. In the mountain part of Rheinland Palatinate; saunas, pools, great food and silence in the valley.

To me Forrest is another McGeady . Very talented- with the ball at his feet but having limited game awareness. He doesnt know how to find or make space for himself and is prone to making the wrong decisions. These faults should be able to be addressed with the right coaching but which worryingly doesnt seem to happen.

I suspected latterly that the GB had been infiltrated by ‘politically motivated’ influences…… What makes you think it was actually the Celtic Trust….!!??

  23. 67 Heaven you have no idea pal. None. But being frivolous about the future of the club we all love isnt fun. Neither is calling for a boycott. But thats what I am doing.

Big Wavy the authorities in scotland have said making the sign of the cross can be an offence. You can go to jail for it. If the police decide its offensive. Next the tricolour will be banned – well they tried to ban it in Perth and celtic made an arse of that. What next? The wearing of the green gets us in jail? It causes trouble so we should stop it?

If you tolerate this then your children will be next?

Henr1ik I get that – but our club are propping all of this up. Charity (or rebellion) begins at home. Starve our board and bring them to their senses.

macjay1 – shameful post – your disrespect for your fellow supporters is awful.

I’m just here for the football. My politics reside in another place where they belong. And the changing landscape of what passes in politics has been as a result of changing times. It’s called pragmatism, we seen it in Ireland and with Mandela. Problem we have is the green brigade have not seemingly grown that particular skill yet, which is more the pity really.

Why have the Celtic support been targeted ? Are Celtic supporters those singing sectarian songs or alone in the recent spate of hooliganism ? Why is that ?

Why has the Scottish government lauded sectarian singing, whilst creating bizarre laws to criminalise Celtic supporters for political songs and banners ? You have seen the political track side advertising or the celebrations of Mandela’s life ?
