JOHNSTON TRANSFER UPDATE

ALISTAIR JOHNSTON’S £3.5million switch to Celtic “should be announced soon”.

The Canada international right-back’s move from MLS outfit CF Montreal is imminent and he could be on his way to Scotland as soon as his nation are officially out of the World Cup, as CQN forecast a couple of days ago.

Johnston will line up against Morocco at three o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Al Thumama Stadium in Dohar in a meaningless encounter as far as points are concerned with his country already losing both of their other games in Group F to Belgium (0-1) and Croatia (1-4).

The deal is “completely agreed” and “should be announced soon”, according to a media report from The States that also revealed a medical had already been completed.

A BIG HAND…Alistair Johnston acknowledges the CF Montreal fans after an MLS game.

His club side have completed their 34-game league programme in the MLS Eastern Conference and there doesn’t appear to be any snags in personal terms with both teams agreeing a fee for the 24-year-old defender who cost just £800,000 from Nashville a year ago.

Johnston will become the second transfer for Ange Postecoglou as he prepares for the second half of the campaign at the turn of the year.

Japanese defender Yuki Kobayashi has already signed a five-year contract to be reunited with his former Vissel Kobe team-mate Kyogo Furushi and compatriots Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi.

The J-League left-sided centre-back is expected at Lennoxtown next month before the move can be rubberstamped when the window reopens on January 1 2023.
