Juranovic and disruptive publicity

261

Nothing makes sense about the reports that Manchester United and Chelsea are considering a bid for Josip Juranovic.  It is just less than a year since the player signed for Celtic.  For much of that time he played at left back, a position he had never played before and did not enjoy.

33 starts across domestic and European football later, precious few of them in his favourable position, he has two of the highest spenders in European football keen, after Atletico Madrid were supposedly interested?  While he was an important part of the story last season, his impact was significantly less than at least four other new arrivals.  I’m not seeing the evidence leading to such interest.

What we know for sure is that this publicity is disruptive.  I am also sure the newspapers reporting did not make the story up, there is a source of the disruption.  Jura will move on eventually, but it would take a spectacular bid to convince Celtic that time was now.  In the meantime, all they can do is try to disuade the disrupter.

Good luck to Dundee United in Alkmaar tonight.  I suspect they are not ready for the challenges of away games in Europe, but reaching the Conference playoff round would be a huge achievement.  It would also give them a chance of stemming the flow or red ink all over their accounts.

Celtic40me – belated thank you for your 12:37 response.

Your subsequent discussion with Madmitch also noted with interest.

Pesky work got in the way of CQN.

    (Priorities all wrong)

Wasn’t aware of how stringently EPL clubs pursued younger players.

Clearly my supposition not supported by the evidence.

I like the guy and don’t want him to leave.

Worst case for me is he leaves too late for us to get a replacement.

To that, still assert Man United’s recruitment is disjointed and short termist.

(Alleged pursuit of 33 year old Arnautovic would indicate such)

If so, exactly the kind of club to come calling with £18m for a hurried purchase.

The Lisbon Lions razzmatazz was a one off

  7. Utd playing 4-5-1 but huge space between the 4 and 5. They also look knackered. Big indictment of the acceptable level of fitness in Scotland

I was looking at the match ups in the last 2 weeks and it is amazing how many teams we had hard games against over the last 10 years are in the lowest level of quals and we are in CL

Must be very hard for the bookies

would we have got through tonight against AZ if we were defending a 1 goal lead?

looking at many of our recent euro outings i would have my doubts

so i would refrain from slagging united tonight

I’d much rather he stayed, as well. Full backs are such an important position in Ange’s Celtic and he seems to be getting better this season.

    OK, serious question.

Dutch football is clearly on the up.

Any team from Eredivisie will be a capable outfit.

With that in mind, if you were offered PSV Eindhoven as one of the teams in our Champions League group …

    … would you take them?

  16. 442 park the bus on

Various top European managers, and world class players, since MON took us into the CL groups in 2001, have went out of their way to point out that the Parkhead atmosphere is amazing etc, and they are 100% correct, but, what they picked as the jewel in the crown, was Celtic fans singing YNWA.

Now if I’m wrong about this I know that I’ll be quickly corrected.

All of the tifos that we see in almost every stadium in the world, are they not as a direct response to the glowing accolades that have been deservedly bestowed upon Celtic fans in response to the amazing YNWA at Parkhead, because other fans aren’t `walk-on-ers` and we are actually responding to those other teams fans responses, TOO US, in tifos and we respond with a Celtic tifo, which are brilliant, but miss what`s actually going on here, by doing a Celtic tifo?

I’ll not say the word. 👀

Imho, no tifo in the world comes anywhere near close to Celtic YNWA at Parkhead.

Is it the case that we’re not allowed to play YNWA over the tannoy near CL/EL anthems or you’ll be fined?

Singing YNWA before the anthems, if folk are watching on MSM TV, then tv will cut to adverts and block folk outwith the stadium knowing that YNWA has even been sung, coz MSM hate Celtic fans being shown in the amazing light that YNWA brings with it.

So a wee suggestion from sumdy who loves YNWA, along with millions of others.

insead of sheets of coloured paper, why not bits of paper shaped like a `walk on` scarf, or even material, and ask the seat holder to hold onto the scarf shaped paper/material and bring it to `tifo` games?

And save taking up a lot of the magnificent GREEN BRIGADE bhoys and ghirls time, and let them have a lighter load to carry, blessed that they are. 🙏🏻🍀🏆

  17. DU — quite a technically competent team / squad at the moment.

However they could not cope with the AZ regarding physicality / energy / intensity / aggression.

The SPL has cloggers — no pun intended — who need a run up for a heavy tackle.

The MIB let them get away with it even although it is blatant — double when against us.

AZ were just so much fitter / faster / more intense that it was embarrassing for the SPL.

Positive note to end — will look out for the DU no.17 in future.

Plus the AZ No.5 — LB?

Finally AZ would have been a much harder opposition than UStG — more settled and more sure of themselves.

  18. LETS ALL DO THE HUDDLE on 11TH AUGUST 2022 9:20 PM

would we have got through tonight against AZ if we were defending a 1 goal lead?

Yes, we would. A very new Ange team lost 2-1 out there so I’d say we’d do better than that now we’ve improved hugely since then and we have better players including the rather good Jota

I’d also imagine, given that we beat them 2-0 with a team that didn’t yet have four attacking players who are in the starting 11 these days we wouldn’t be defending a 1 goal lead.
