Juranovic and disruptive publicity

261

Nothing makes sense about the reports that Manchester United and Chelsea are considering a bid for Josip Juranovic.  It is just less than a year since the player signed for Celtic.  For much of that time he played at left back, a position he had never played before and did not enjoy.

33 starts across domestic and European football later, precious few of them in his favourable position, he has two of the highest spenders in European football keen, after Atletico Madrid were supposedly interested?  While he was an important part of the story last season, his impact was significantly less than at least four other new arrivals.  I’m not seeing the evidence leading to such interest.

What we know for sure is that this publicity is disruptive.  I am also sure the newspapers reporting did not make the story up, there is a source of the disruption.  Jura will move on eventually, but it would take a spectacular bid to convince Celtic that time was now.  In the meantime, all they can do is try to disuade the disrupter.

Good luck to Dundee United in Alkmaar tonight.  I suspect they are not ready for the challenges of away games in Europe, but reaching the Conference playoff round would be a huge achievement.  It would also give them a chance of stemming the flow or red ink all over their accounts.

  1. Players ate fitter than ever now. Sports science and diet mean under 25 is an outdated philosophy.

Anthony Ralston is one of our own, I can’t seehim going anywhere. Yet.

    Currently he’s living the dream.

I thought Dedryk was a solid guy as a player. Sometimes got crucified for giving the ball away but I felt that was a bit unfair as he was expected to bring the ball out and start attacks. Easy to look good with the ball if you never try a difficult pass.

Efe got the same to a degree although I don’t think it would unfair to say that he could be careless at times.

    Tom,

Not what I was intending to suggest. Just stating my belief that Ange has his finger on the pulse with what is going on in the squad and he will be prepared for eventualities. The fact that JJ looks like being one of Ange’s first picks doesn’t suggest any issues there.

However I do believe that every player has his price. I think we are maybe better prepared for such situations than we have Belen in the past.

    Probably didn’t express myself clearly.

I am reasonably okay, but I havent been out for nearly 3 weeks.

I plan to go out tomorrow and visit my Bank, and then have some Beers.

If you have any £20 and/or £50 Notes lying about the hoose, then I strongly suggest that you either SPEND them, or deposit them in your Bank BEFORE SEPTEMBER 30th.

Any current £20 and £50 Notes will be rather difficult to get rid of after September 30th, as SOME business’s etc MAY NOT accept them after taht date.

The CURRENT £20 and £50 Notes of the Bank of Scotland AND Bank of England are to be REPLACED by NEW PLASTIC NOTES.

Ive got some Notes in the hoose that I cant possibly spend between now and September 30th, that is why I am depositing those Notes in my Bank Tomorrow.

I’m in the same boat, just paid the fish van and until football began I would never see a note again. So the fish van, supporters bus and the Oak bar before the game are the only calls in that old fashioned means of exchange😱😂

  9. Juranovic’s agent is showing a lack of belief in JJ. Instead of looking forward to the Champions League and World Cup to show case his talents, his agent is trying to drum up interest now.

The window is still open and there may be a demand – but I don’t think he’s going anywhere soon

  11. It seems to me that there has more speculation on CQN on possible bids for Juranovic than anywhere else. Maybe his agent posts on here on the quiet. That said Paul67 says that he doesn’t think the newspapers have made the story up. You need to get out more Paul. Or of course it could be the ol’ Peter Lawwell CQN press release, a la wee Frimpers, claiming the Bhoy really wanted to go. Why else sell the best young player in Scotland? Normally one surefire way for an agent to get his players cheap, free even, publicity is to link him with Celtic FC, or their rivals, works every time, but that doesn’t work when your Bhoy is already playing his trade, at er Parkhead. Let me think, Chelsea and Manchester, that should generate a few bylines.

FY ended June 30, but we have laid out a few bob since, might not be such a bad idea to top up the ol bank balance, just before we sell 60,000 CL packages at £150. Nice work, and we can get it.

Ha, ha you reminded me of an article once on Tebily in Not the View? the one called ‘they wore the Hoops’. His started with something along the lines of ‘as supporters we all get nervous before games and during games if the score line is tight, but we never knew that we needed to have the nerves of a fighter pilot whenever Tebily plays!’

  14. Greenpinata- if there is inteest in Welsh and Ralston, we need to improve their contracts, if you want loyalty, buy a dog.

Is that the imbecilic cheeky chappie, who-are-these-people, having a rant.

Whenever a Scottish club draws a Scandinavian side in a Euro Qualifier, the narrative is always that the Scands are well into their season, have played loads of games and are oven ready for the Qualifier. It’s not fair on the half-baked Scottish club, still in pre-season mode.

Given that logic, the solution is to play more games before the Qualifier. Get some competitive minutes into those legs. Now, it would appear, Super Sally wants less minutes into his favourites legs. A training session will be better prep that Hibs away. In August. Hypocrisy.

It’s not my analysis, it’s just the market.

Top six sides don’t buy players over 25 with no top league experience. Maybe Jura will be an outlier but I don’t think he’s good enough.

Players are fitter than ever now. Sports science and diet mean under 25 is an outdated philosophy.

Its a newish thing in the transfer market, although we’ve been aware of the drop off in values after 25 for some time. It’s why we’ve been signing players below a certain age for a while now

It’s about what EPL teams will pay, fitness and ability are only part of the story. Look at what they do actually pay and 25 is an important age above which valuations drop off

As well as a very good footballer was also a very good human being. Really nice polite lad who got on with it in a foreign country with no histrionics. The media and Celtic negations were itching to slaughter him but he kept his dignity and stuck to his contract. Never letting us down in his final season.

Ambrose, likewise, is a thoroughly decent human being also. Another good guy who could never do enough for those less fortunate than himself. Sadly playing in the Juventus CL last 16 game jist 48 hours after winning the African Nations Cup was a step too far for him and he never recovered from his error that night going on to build a bombscare reputation amplified by a salivating media.

As well as both being good guys they contributed much to our success in the 9 mark 2.
