Juranovic and the Tierney lesson

215

Suggestions that Josip Juranovic was a target for English clubs reached me from Poland last month and hit the Twitter rumour mill yesterday.  I have no doubt there is substance.  Celtic players provided Kierna Tierney and Virgil van Dijk to the Premier League, both outstanding successes.  If we are regarded as a rich seam of talent, we will continue to see our players targeted in this way.

What I heard last month was little more than a trawling exercise.  Josip is a quality player with a reputation that continues to grow.  He is under a secure contract at Celtic, who will be suitably compensated if he ever insists Glasgow is no longer the place for him.

After Kieran, we should all know the game.  The lure of the lucre in England is too much for any of them to hang around.  Celtic’s task is to stay on the front foot, be ready for when the time comes.

Sorry don’t buy your analysis — moneyball is just so last week..

JJ is good enough to be worth a lot of money to a good few teams.

Starting with L/pool if they want to be CL competitive next season.

He is a stand out for a very good NT.

That is good enough for me.

I would suggest that you wind your neck in — this could run and run.

  2. You are right Paul, in saying that we need to be ready when the time comes, if JJ moves on.

But we never have been. We are normally scrambling around on the last day of the window, trying to get someone on loan.

  3. If JJ goes he will go for more than 15ml. he is way the best full back in Scotland.

Clyde will get his fee through the roof, apparently McCrory is wanted by Man.U.If they sell four of their players their players it would clear the World debt.Never ceases to amaze me the promotion of the huns.

So two years isn’t long enough for analysis but a week suddenly becomes too long?

Always trying to glean without giving it away.

So you acknowledge 1976 cuts were greater than anything Tony’s hero did but it wasn’t monetarism.

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

    You sir are a dunderheid.

Can I have an oyster? Fed up with nuggets.

As always non attending abuser I invite you to CP,meet you outside,at the vans of course lol.

I say this with complete confidence you’ll not be there.

Run along now,Glad you are coming round to Labour introducing monetarism.

Ps.i don’t think you understand the history of your own party

I know you do understand accountancy, economics.

It is v funny to read tho, sometimes one notes a lucid interval of truth which is quickly made irrational by talking say of ice cream vans atop a stand!

  6. While we have these self interest people on especially Dermot Desmond and co nothing inside and outside the stadium while they miserable so and so’s are there. as for someone saying a lot of supporters are ok with the stadium ,we’ll I can tell him there are plenty of supporters who would like to see the Stadium upgraded I’m sure there are plenty of well heeled supporters who if they wanted could do something, but hey ho if you are getting all the freebies on the ordinary fans , why bother putting your hand in your pocket .

  7. ‘Rail strike: Labour MPs defy Keir Starmer’s picket line plea

A number of Labour MPs have shown support for this week’s rail strikes by appearing at picket lines outside stations, despite warnings from Sir Keir Starmer’s office.

Senior Labour MPs were told not to show support for the strikes.

However, frontbenchers Kate Osborne, Paula Barker and Navendu Mishra are among those to have tweeted pictures of themselves at picket lines.

The Scottish Labour leader also offered “solidarity” to the strikers.

Anas Sarwar tweeted a picture of himself at Edinburgh Waverley station saying: “The workers don’t want strikes. The unions don’t want strikes. The public don’t want strikes” and added: “This is a crisis entirely of the government’s making.”

Other backbench Labour MPs similarly expressed support for the unions.

Beth Winter, who represents Cynon Valley, posted a photo of herself and other MPs at London’s Victoria station with the message: “The trades unions are the organised working class. In the words of Mick Lynch, ‘If you’re not bargaining, you’re begging, and the British working class should not have to beg’.”

And veteran Labour MP Diane Abbott tweeted: “On the RMT union picket line at the Seven Sisters depot. (But don’t tell Keir Starmer).”

It is understood that Labour may take disciplinary action against frontbench MPs who defy the call not to appear on picket lines, but it’s not expected immediately.

Millions of rail passengers in England, Scotland and Wales have been hit by the strike, which started on Tuesday and is due to continue on Thursday and Saturday.

The RMT union – whose members voted to strike – is asking for a pay rise of at least 7% to offset the rising cost of living, but it says employers have offered a maximum of 3%, on condition they also accept job cuts and changes to working practices.

The Conservatives have repeatedly accused Labour of failing to condemn the industrial action – and Justice Secretary Dominic Raab said the party had “actively encouraged the inconvenience commuters are suffering”.

Responding to the strikes, Labour’s deputy leader Angela Rayner said: “Workers have been left with no choice.

“No one takes strike action lightly – I will always defend their absolute right to do so for fairness at work.”

She argued that Boris Johnson’s government had caused the situation adding: “Now they must solve it.”

Labour’s stance has frustrated many trade unions, which are among the party’s biggest donors.

Sharon Graham – head of the Unite union – said: “The Labour Party was founded by the trade unions and we expect Labour MPs to defend workers, by words and by actions.

“To instruct Labour MPs not to be on picket lines with workers speaks volumes.

“You don’t lead by hiding. No one respects that. It’s time to decide whose side you are on. Workers or bad bosses?”

Just commented back to her. So obviously snidey to get a headline linked to miners’ strike and violence.

The tactic of acting confused and asking the questioner to clarify what they are getting at is much more prevalent now in Union reps, MPs etc; Ange is great at it. There was a great one recently but i can’t remember who it was that stood up for themselves.

    Economics corner for slow learners.

We have discussed this point before.

Possibly you didn’t understand it then.

You do know that monetarism relates to the money supply.

It was never an issue until Maggie got in and MF was CS mentalist they all worshipped.

Labour did not introduce monetarism in 1976 or any other year for that matter.

They did cut public spending in 1976/77 in response to the manufactured debt strike.

HW — Increased public spending 74/75 and 75/76.

JC — Got caught up in a Treasury / Establishment drive by in 76/77 — we didn’t need the IMF.

JC — Increased public spending in 77/78 and 78/79.

Maggie cut public spending in 79/80 as the oil money started to flow.

Then she cut it again hard in 80/81 and 81/82 to the point that the Falklands were left defenceless.

Followed up by more cuts in 82/83 as the oil money flooded in.

She then cut public spending again in 83/84 and 84/85.

It was slightly less a cut than before but still sore.

The cuts only stopped when the Brum NHS system stopped doing children’s heart surgery in 85 and Maggie was shamed into putting more money into public services.

    But you know this already.

    Or at least you should.

  17. Labour in England. Trying to appeal to the people of leafy Berkshire as well as the good people of Blyth Valley. End up appealing to neither. An easy win for the shambolic blond imbecile.

Labour in Scotland. Take the working class vote for granted, until in 2007, Alex Salmond gets his foot on their throat and keeps it there. And his apprentice has kept it there ever since. 15 years and counting.

Celtic PLC. A directors box populated by men who’s wealth is genuinely off the radar. Happy to pay a (former) CEO a basic £1m per annum, playing in a two horse league, and Champions League group stage football is not a prerequisite to be handed such a salary. And then there are the bonuses.

Celtic PLC : the absolute definition of the Tory loving us and them society. With the 2021/22 financial year end only nine days away, I’m sure Dermot has contacted Michael to get the dividend calculator fired up.

Mick Lynch seems to be thoroughly enjoying himself. Its been great fun watching him take them all apart

  22. I think Scales will do well at Aberdeen, any time he played for us he did OK playing somewhat out of position.

I’m glad its a loan, won’t play against us but will play against the Huns.

The fact that it is announced gives me hope that we have a left back signing imminent,

Like JIMTIM, I’m a bit unsure of Semedo,

However, Anges hit ratio on all the Newbies brought in last year was sensational, he has plenty of credit in my Bank so If Ange is OK with it, then lets give the bhoy a chance.

Pieces are starting to fall in place but I’ll hold my biggest cheer until we offload Ajeti & Bolli.

With Scales on loan and presumably Bolingoli being released; we must have a new guy coming in , as you say, but I also wonder if Montgomery will stay as a back up with us this season and not go on loan again.

I liked him last season when he stepped up at a crucial time

  24. What is the Starz on

Liam Scales will do well with Aberdeen.

He will benefit from regular first team football. When he comes back he will be a first team regular with Celtic

  25. Cpneybhoy, First few games Montgomery played had me purring, I thought we had another KT, but then he turned in a few awful performances.

2nd half last Season went to a Don’s team in disarray didn’t set the heather alight there but given the flux Aberdeen were in, wouldn’t worry too much about that,.

He needs a good Loan Club & plenty of games, could be a future star but don’t see it happening next year at Celtic.
