Shakhtar Karagandy Russian manager, Viktor Kumykov, gave an interview after their elimination of the Albanian champions in the last Champions League qualifier. He talked about his team, which, unlike some in former Soviet countries, does not have an oligarch benefactor or rich sponsor.
Kumykov thought four of his potential opponents were of equal standing, although he clearly respects Celtic’s recent achievements in the Champions League.
He said, “Getting through to the play offs round is historical achievement for the club and for Kazakh football. We hope this is for the start and we would play in Europe regularly. Even if we don’t go to the Champions League, we will play in UEFA Europa League, which means we will be in the elite of the European football.
“We have made it to the group stage of one of the European competitions, which was our main target. It does not mean we can rest now and say we will not fight for more, but our main target is Cup of Kazakhstan. We have never won it before.
“From a football perspective, I think it might be better for us to be in the Europa League than the Champions League. If we go through to the Champions League we will play against much better teams, where we can meet giant clubs. For this we would need to buy few players to strengthen the team. We short of depth and players I have at the moment would not cope with big competitions. I have no experienced players.
“It’s difficult to say who against I want to play. All five teams are better than us. Celtic is different story, they are apart from the others. That team played in the Champions League last season and got through to the knock out round. They beat Barcelona. They beat Spartak Moscow away and at home.
“The Other four are all similar class one to each other but they are all stronger than us. Each of them play at a higher level. The team God gives us will be the team we will play against. It makes no sense to say who we want.”

I was here for the first time when Artur Boruc signed from my club to Celtic. People wanted Niemmi at that time and felt frustrated with signing of unknown keeper. They had I go at the cub policy. Times had not changed since then, right?
I stayed, made couple of good friends, wish Celtic and supporters all the best on all occasions. I would not call myself Celtic supporter in the meaning of this term, as you could understand it.
Few years back, one of the best Polish writers Stanislaw Lem told: “I have not known there are so many idiots living on this earth until I opened internet browser”.

I’m happy with Steaua Bucarest. Taking into account their results from last year, they are the favourites. They knocked back Ajax Amsterdam, in the next round won one game against Chelsea London and lost to them on agreegate result.
On the paper they are stronger us, but I think we are equal teams.

I think the true reason Green has resurfaced has more to do with somehow he knows already that the police raids of 2 months ago turned up “nothing” and paved way for the civil trial against Craig Whyte in October. I guess Green sees something in it for himself. It should be interesting.

While a constant stream of leaked documents and tapes questioning the true nature of the relationship between former owner Craig Whyte and his successor Charles Green keeps the close season busy, the full story of the series of frauds committed at the Glasgow club before and after Whyte’s takeover in 2011 may need to await either a criminal trial or the civil actions against his former lawyers, Collyer Bristow. While nobody has yet been charged, the civil case is set for trial in October in the high court.
The claimants are not just the original Rangers club, via its liquidators, but also the taxman, the Jerome pension fund trustees (Jerome is owned by Worthington Group, in which Whyte was major shareholder) and a company linked to Whyte’s former partner, Merchant House Group. The club is seeking £25m from Collyer Bristow, HMRC at least £2.8m, the pension fund almost £3m and merchant Turnaround (where Whyte was a shareholder) £1m. To meet these claims,if it loses, Collyer Bristow has its professional indemnity insurance and a frozen £3.6m which survived the pillaging.
The “oldco” Rangers claim against Collyer Bristow reveals that the Jerome trustees parted with £2.9m, a third of the pension fund, in early April 2011 – a month before Whyte agreed to buy Rangers from Sir David Murray. The money remained in the lawyer’s client account until two weeks before Rangers collapsed into administration in February 2012. It was a supposed secure loan for which the pension fund received no security.
The Merchant Turnaround money and £24.3m paid to Collyer Bristow by Ticketus, in return for supposed season ticket income, was used by Whyte to repay LLoyds Bank £18m and take over the club. Ticketus has already won a judgement against Whyte for almost £18m.
The Rangers claim also shows that more than £800,000 of the money provided to Collyer Bristow was used to pay its bills (more than £200,00) and those of other lawyers (including Carter-Ruck, £19,000), accountants (Saffrey Champness £61,000) and advisers (Cairn, £63,000), as well as Whyte’s associates Aiden Early (£250,000) and Phillip Betts (£225,000). Many of these were, it is claimed, debts of Whyte or his companions, rather than Rangers.
Collyer Bristow’s defence is certain to be complicated by the position of lawyer Gary Withey, who was acting for Whyte but has now left the firm. He is accused of not only of misleading Murray and the club’s advisers but also of forging Whyte’s signature on a letter he witnessed as part of a conspiracy to damage the club.
This will be investigated in detail come October – unless the police raids of two months ago turn into charges and result in the civil proceedings being delayed.

I knew what you meant ….and agree with you , I also reckon we should have had a contingency plan in place probably not for Victor as a very difficult man to replace and maybe not a crucial necessity but Hooper scored the goals and we need those scoring and we cannot gamble that we’ll get by without a goal scorer .I understand that top class players will be difficult to attract due to the league and the money we can offer to purchase and to pay a player ,but Celtic employ several people to ensure we have options and now we are missing a penalty box predator going into the most important game of the season…….so I understand your frustration ……but I also understand other peoples consternation ………..being a Celtic supporter T’was always so
