Shakhtar Karagandy Russian manager, Viktor Kumykov, gave an interview after their elimination of the Albanian champions in the last Champions League qualifier. He talked about his team, which, unlike some in former Soviet countries, does not have an oligarch benefactor or rich sponsor.
Kumykov thought four of his potential opponents were of equal standing, although he clearly respects Celtic’s recent achievements in the Champions League.
He said, “Getting through to the play offs round is historical achievement for the club and for Kazakh football. We hope this is for the start and we would play in Europe regularly. Even if we don’t go to the Champions League, we will play in UEFA Europa League, which means we will be in the elite of the European football.
“We have made it to the group stage of one of the European competitions, which was our main target. It does not mean we can rest now and say we will not fight for more, but our main target is Cup of Kazakhstan. We have never won it before.
“From a football perspective, I think it might be better for us to be in the Europa League than the Champions League. If we go through to the Champions League we will play against much better teams, where we can meet giant clubs. For this we would need to buy few players to strengthen the team. We short of depth and players I have at the moment would not cope with big competitions. I have no experienced players.
“It’s difficult to say who against I want to play. All five teams are better than us. Celtic is different story, they are apart from the others. That team played in the Champions League last season and got through to the knock out round. They beat Barcelona. They beat Spartak Moscow away and at home.
“The Other four are all similar class one to each other but they are all stronger than us. Each of them play at a higher level. The team God gives us will be the team we will play against. It makes no sense to say who we want.”

TBB,
……and that’s how you spell CELTIC.
Well said.
Why can Celtic demand a higher level of ethical and moral behaviour from its supporters than it can from
The SPFL ?
The SFA ?
UEFA ?
The ECA
The Police ?
The judiciary ?
Where does this clearly opportunistic cherry picking come from ?
Is this the level of skullduggery that other teams around Europe admire and crave for ?
HH
Traditionalist,
I can only speak for myself but anyone who thinks balde is a direct replacement for Hooper is quite frankly barking.
You may argue that he could have been brought on many more times. I could easily argue against.
I think his only competitive appearance was the only one that couldn’t really fail.
I think you are being very premature.
regarding a report of medals being stolen from swinecastle
I notice that the beeb have issued the following description
“Workers at the stadium said they had noticed someone acting suspiciously. He was described as being white, 40 to 45 years of age, 5ft 9in tall, and of medium build.
He had short ginger hair and was clean-shaven, wearing a dark bomber jacket and dark trousers.”
and just what age is Lenny then;
Reading between the lines i think NL a wee bit frustrated re getting new bhoys in.

I think you have to read back rather than pop your head in mid-conversation and quote single sentences without the entire context, can be very misleading.

Very interesting incentive scheme in place at Dutch club NEC Nijmegen. Maybe this will tempt Van Dyke and Boerrighter back to Holland?

By not actively standing against the SFA/CO and co .. our board condone it.
We are part of the “big con” through our lack of action and refusal to make a stand.

Old Firm sustainability ?
Lets be honest thats the spectre that drives most on CQN.
The huns.
We just dont-cant-want to remove them from our psyche.
The hun still has more clout than we do.
I do not see it as admirable in any way to keep quiet in the face of corruption. I am surprised you do.

we don’t even need to make a big dramatic stand against what has been going on
a token gesture such as opposing Campbell Ogilvie we be nice
or even a public mention about some of the goings on in the huns/sevco farce would be weldome
it looks like we are standing by and inviting the participants to get the sevconians into the top flight without further delay
Hrvatski Jim .that’s not a bikini.imagine playing the game of your life and those 3 turn up.

Again I can’t argue with a word of that.
Neither can I argue with a word of Awe Naw’s last post.
We are a member of an association that are breaking the rules that were signed up to by member clubs.
I am not asking Celtic to police the power makers, I am asking the club to stand up to the rule breaking and the blatent corruption that benefits our biggest challenger that has been since our near inception, and will be again soon enough.
At the end of the day………..
I would be reasonably happy for the sfa to carry on as they have been doing…………..
If Celtic and the other clubs were hell bent on getting fair, honest and transparent referees, referees who acted from the rule book and not their hearts.
With honest referees, they can cheat and break the rules with impunity to no avail, we will forever truimph, as we are better than them, always have been, in scotland, might not always will be.

Kojo, firstly thanks for returning 20 years of my life,I can use it after the mid week debacle.
One guy who always played hard against us was Ryan McGowan of Hearts, now in China.
Whether he was trying to impress I always recognised his commitment in what was a poor Hearts set up.
Also a fan I understand.

Genuinely struggling with your comment re the standard of football. Ignoring Wednesday night… we are playing some great stuff most games, and achieving at a high level.
And we’re doing it with talented kids in the main.
I have no idea why you disdain the notion of ‘turning a profit’. Every organisation needs to run at a surplus, irrespective of its constitution. I know you hate the sugar sheik/ oligarch thing, so why slap Celtic for being good at something that you value as important?
I get the impatience with the time it’s taking to strengthen the squad, but that’s the way it is in European football, and our place in it.
Outwith the long standing issue of competitive environment, the biggest problem Celtic has right now is using our recent windfalls astutely. should we qualify again for the Champions League, the club’s cash surplus would be absurd.
Genuinely. We’ll report record business in a couple of weeks. Next year’s results, if we get UCL dough again, added to the gains on Wanyama, Hooper and Wilson, will put us in a preposterous cash position.
We’re talking in the order of £50M in the bank.
What would you do with it that would change our situation significantly?
Oops
This got lost
In a footballing sence.

one of the possible problems that might arise following Celtics diplomatic silence on the matters is that the sevconians misdeeds are now clearly in the open and yet they are not ashamed
can you imagine the levels of the so called honest mistakes that will be seen once the sevconians are back in the top flight and understand that they can openly do as they please without any consequences
Awe Naw
On the ‘Old Firm’ thing…
Clearly the club were considering the idea of taking the ‘brand’ round the world with Rangers. The idea ended when Rangers died.
I think many of our own ‘fans’ have a bigger fixation on Old Firm/Rangers than our management do.
Look at the difference in season ticket sales for the fans’ reaction, and the progress on the park and off it for the club’s management, since Rangers died.
I’m Neil Lennon (tamrabam)
Hence my reason for wanting transparent referees.
With that, they are fecked.

Sometimes it takes some players a wee while longer than others to settle in …. Not rocket science, I’m afraid……
Charlie Mulgrew at left centre back was POTY the season before last, its his best position by a mile, why not put him back there?
At least as good as Wilson who was playing out of position on the left side as a right footed player.
Van Dijk is a right sided centre half, great prospect according to senior Dutch players, so no panic for centre half cover if we include Mouyokolo and Ambrose, Lustig and Marcus Fraser who looks a good player for his age, had a great game against Rennes if I remember well.
What is needed is a replacement for Hooper and a creative midfield player, maybe Rogic will fit the bill, who knows but Lenny has consistently said he is looking for at least one more forward, why don’t we let him get on with it before we crucify him or Peter Lawwell as seems to always be the case on here?
Its not the board who scout, recommend and buy players, its John Park and the manager. Let them do their jobs before passing premature judgement please.

Great draw
Every chance of progression to the tournament proper and the riches that follow
Will the money men improve our chances by getting in much needed players or will we risk all with the limited squad we have
Before the financially obsessed state there are no guarantees etc yada yada ….lets be certain if we don’t bring anyone in our chances are not improved
Come on ….show some ambition

shame is an external thing that you bring on your family and community, I have not met one male or female fan of sevco who think that they have shamed anyone, and it is also not intelligence based as i have met several intelligent sevco fans, no difference in their response.

Here is a translation from a Karagandy football blog:
Bring food!
The typical Scottish diet does not include fresh fruit of vegetables. They deep fry everything including their chocolate. They eat the surplus oats for their livestock.
Their traditional dish is sheep intestines mixed with oats and served in the sheep stomach.
