Keane the bogeyman

242

I often thought that Roy Keane was the bogeyman newspapers taunted us with when we are looking for a manager.  He is box office, for sure, but as a parting gift from Peter Lawwell to new chief exec, Dominic McKay, he would prove a ‘handful’.  Roy has not worked as a manager in a decade, his future in the game surely lies in front of the camera.

Still waiting on the Justice Secretary dropping his faux threat to cancel Sundays’ game.

  1. I wonder just how much Keane has changed in his ten years absence. Ten years is a long time but if he has changed it is not changed as a result of management experience that’s for sure because he hasn’t been a manager. We need to end this obsession with “one of our own”. One of our own is fine if the manager brings a lot more to the table than being a Celtic fan from boyhood or as a result of playing for Celtic. There are so many problems that need sorted out at Celtic that we need someone who has won as a manager and who has a vision of what a modern football team can be.

Oh and by the way forget about BR’s comment on Celtic forming a guard of honour – Rangers under Gerrard didn’t do it so we shouldn’t do it. What we should do is end their invincible season.

Would people in an independent Scotland be financially better off or worse off?

  4. Can anyone tell me who the 17% JHB keeps boring us with refers to?

Apparently the only thing stopping ethnic cleansing on this 17% in Scotland is the Union so I’d like to know who they are. Must surely be an explanation out there.

    Is JHB a tory?

I’d suggest that anyone campaigning for independence should be able, and be prepared, to answer the question.

So once again , in an independent Scotland would people be financially better off or worse off?

  9. TIMMY7_NOTED on 15TH MARCH 2021 12:44 PM

At least try to answer the question.

    Better off

    or

    Worse off.

    Which is it?

  10. The worry is that Roy Keane’s name has been mentioned as part of an expectation management strategy.

Whilst there is a waiting list for season tickets, whatever any of us think does not matter. Dermot Desmond will make the final choice on our new manager.

  13. When Keane says he would like the Celtic job my concern is the following:

Why would someone with such a strong opinion of himself, someone with such a high media profile and with close contacts within the Celtic hierarchy be prepared to be snubbed if he didn’t think he had a good chance of getting the job?

Would he not keep his interest quiet, speak with DD and if there is a polite “no Roy, not this time” response leave it at that?

If there’s an independence vote then there should be an impartial assessment to answer that question (as there should have been with brexit). Living under the most incompetent Tory government ever, is not appealing but if you’re going to be vote for something so radical, then you need to be confident of not being worse off.

  17. Ernie @ 1.06

I honestly don’t know the answer to that question. I don’t think many people do. But I’m sure that you, with your wonderful track record of political predictions, would be happy to give a definitive answer.

  18. DENIABHOY on 15TH MARCH 2021 1:05 PM

Keane has been in football long enough to know how these things work.

He’ll hardly be a broken, gibbering wreck if he doesn’t get the job.

He couldn’t care less what people think about him.

Shit. Now you’ve got me worried. Though, could Keane work if he had the right coaching team? Would be a massive gamble and I’m guessing whoever it is will be a gamble. Steve Clarke wouldn’t be an inspiring choice but I’m sure he’d do a good job. I’m hopeful we may have a name by next week.

Well what was the spiel from the cult at the previous referendum? I’m pretty sure you were all rather bullish about the financial prospects. A few weeks later the oil price collapsed.

But good luck convincing people to vote yes next time if you can’t persuade them they won’t be worse off.

  21. Ernie @ 1.17

I don’t know what cult you think I belong to. If you mean the SNP, I am not a supporter of that party. I merely wished to remind people of your foolish prediction about the implosion of the SNP, which says a lot about your lack of political understanding. I have never even indicated on this blog whether I support independence. What exercise do you get apart from jumping to conclusions?

The Big Bad Proddys are gonny take aw yer money off ye and burn yer hoose doon. Ye’ll be living in a cave.

As far as being poorer in an independent Scotland is concerned. If Scotland is such an economic basket case after 300 years as a United Kingdom, maybe you might want to think about the connection.

And if it has been, and holding back the mighty UK in the process, why do all your fellow Unionist want to stop independence? Cos they love Scotland so much?

And the other guy going on about the 17%, by which I presume he means baptised Catholics in Scotland. His comments assume anyone who’s not a Catholic is an anti-Catholic bigot.

Which is as equally a bigoted position as that which he doubts on about being scared of.

Would you deny that the SNP is currently pulling itself apart?

  24. The scottish people if they democratically vote to be independent i believe they will be better off

Glad its a labour and unionist party nember asking as we know ernie the last time you labour dyscalcics where in you privatized bank debts and leaving playful notes about the place ..and there was no money

Will you join a labour party in an independent scotland?

  25. How Roy Keane would fare is a complete unknown. The same could have been said about Gerrard when his name was first mentioned about the Ibrox job.

There are some differences of course – Keane has an amount of managerial and assistant experience at senior & international level, something Gerrard did not.

Gerrard has been given three years and won one out of eight competitions during that time- Keane would not be indulged likewise, and, he knows it – therefore I just cannot take his candidacy seriously.

Without just parotting the media, I think that someone like Chris Wilder may be the answer. His career CV reads well and he comes across as a grounded & players-focussed individual.

I think that Celtic may have to play ‘second fiddle’ for a couple of years such is the paucity of our squad at present. In saying that, possibly a emphatic win on Sunday might lift spirits, optimism and interest from players and managers available to come to Celtic Park – I hope so…..but with very little confidence.

Wee Nichola would be better off – so presumably would Mr Wee Nichola

But I do not believe your average man (or woman – need to be inclusive) would be

It would be like working for yourself – some people love it and do really well others can’t deal with the responsibility and go bankrupt

And the important asset – oil – is not as valuable as it was in the past

Finally if I was ever to vote on the issue, a big question for me is how does an independent Scotland look from a Catholic perspective – would life be better

I think if you are gay, undecided, black, femail, or confused an independent Scotland would be open and welcoming – but if you are a Catholic – i’m not so sure what it looks like

So I remain confused undecided and ambivalent
