Keep an eye on Pittodrie

St Johnstone have gone five games without a goal – and that includes a home game against Hamilton. They remain in the League Cup, but if they beat Hibs next week, will remarkably have reached the final after only facing lower league opposition. Their only Scottish Cup game against top-flight opponents ended in defeat.

What they can do is defend better than Hamilton, or several others in the league. They kept Celtic to three last month (which these days is an achievement), before keeping a clean sheet against Hearts. Only Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and Partick have conceded fewer.

Tomorrow’s game is one Celtic will be confident of winning, but chances will not be as easy coming as they were on Tuesday night.

I get it.  The SFA have guidance which suggests New Douglas Park, one of the smallest grounds in Lanarkshire, should be the venue for our Scottish Cup game against East Kilbride. With 6,000 seats it is less than half the size of Fir Park, which is less than 3 miles away.  Moving the game to Fir Park would generate a significant amount of much needed money for grassroots football in Scotland.

Think about that……. generate money for grassroots football in Scotland.  Do the decent this and move this game to Motherwell.  If you want to register for a ticket, do so here.

The more who register, the more reason the SFA have to agree to Fir Park as the venue.

Keep an eye on the game at Pittodrie tonight. I watched 10-man Aberdeen come from behind away to Ross County last week, they were very impressive, but our nearest challengers have developed a blind spot against Dundee.

Three points and a clean sheet tomorrow, please, Celtic.

    HH to Your brother Mick..!

    Lovely post..

  2. Media beginning to question Celtic about Stokes transfer to Hibs lol

RONNY Deila last night dismissed suggestions that Celtic were wrong to sanction Anthony Stokes’s loan move to Hibs – due to the fact the striker could help to prevent Rangers from winning promotion to the Premiership.

Stokes, who has featured just twice for Celtic all season, has joined the Edinburgh club until the end of the 2015/16 campaign and is set to play for them in a Championship match against St. Mirren at Easter Road this afternoon.

The switch has been queried by many in Scottish football because Hibs are currently vying with Rangers, who are just five points clear in the second tier table with 16 games remaining, for a place in the top flight.

  3. The first game I took my da to was the Partizan Belgrade one, up until then he had always taken me and as a wage earning adult I thought I’d treat him to a seat in the main stand. We ended up 3 rows behind the dug out, right in the middle of one of the best atmospheres I had experienced at Celtic Park. He passed away a few years ago now and the main thing I miss is the phone call I would make to him after each game. We would always end up arguing as he would always find the flaws in the team, even if we’d won 6-0. Still he could start a fight in an empty house anyway, fitba or no fitba.

  4. What I’m loving about the build up to todays game is that I have no firm idea what the team will be. Will Efe stay in central defence, Izzy or Tierney at left back and who will fill the 5 “midfield” slots – any 5 from Bitton, McGregor, Commons, Rogic, Allen, Johansen, Forrest, Mackay-Stevens, Armstrong,

I’d go so far as to say that the only definite 4 starters are Gordon, Lustig, Jozo and Griffindor.

Feels like we’re in a good place today.

    Oh and 23’24” today…

  5. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession

I wouldn’t have Commons in my team at the mo’ slows us down too much. Jo H looks to be getting back a bit of his form and I think Ronny will continue with him.

Allen and Rogic seem to be in direct competition for that spot and if TR is doubtful I would love to see SA start today to see how he runs a whole game.

We have some decent mids in and around the first team and with CMcG playing well I’m turning it over to Ronny:))

  6. Burghbhoy – another step in the journey today for you. Just sit and think of the good times you had and the stories you shared. My dad as you know passed away in December – last year he bought himself a brick(think he knew time was not on his side) and it sits to the left of the main entrance. My son, brother and I go there before each game now and stand in our own silence and I say a prayer and think of all the times he walked those same steps I take to see his beloved Celtic. Something you and your family may think of that would help you have an everlasting memory and go-to place to think of him in our very own Paradise. All the best.

HT – have a great birthday.

  7. I don’t understand why the media would be asking questions on why Stokes is out on loan to Hibs,?

Is it to help Hibs win the championship? Ehhhhh aye? It’s a business deal between two football clubs, you’d think they’d be more interested on why Sevco can’t land they’r transfair targets in this window? ….wait a minute how daft was that question, lol.

They obviously don’t know whether they are blown up or stuffed.

On the one hand the SMSM are saying we can’t wait to have (and need) the new team in the top league and on the other we are lending Stokes to the Hibees to prevent that happening.

As always whatever spin to suit their agenda, I just wish they would be consistent but little likelihood of that happening. Anyhoos it’s one of the reasons why Rangers 2012 died so let them keep on keeping on. Just hope Celtic supporters don’t buy into their pish and purchase their rags.

    Starry…,

Whether Johansen is getting back to his best or not I’d still have Allan in his place.

I thought he was a bit special when I watched him with the hibs and have only seen things that encourage that view since he arrived at Celtic Park.

I think this bhoy is going to be a £10/15m sell on value in a few short years if he can stay fit.

  11. Magic! Just composed a (for me) lengthy post about bringing back the ‘fear factor’ for teams coming to Paradise, using the Hamilton Hammering as a launch pad, when the page disappears, and I’m in logged out territory! Grrrrrr as someone once said, but yaaaaaaaay for you lot!

Anyway, unlike a couple on here, i’dve preferred Celtic to be playing to extend the lead to 9 points today, but getting to 6 will leave it ‘as you were’ at the end of this weekend’s fixtures, which would disappoint the sheep who are no doubt delighted with yet another single-goal margin victory this morning.

I used to be confused when Leigh Griffiths was left out of the team on a regular basis when in my opinion he was a first on the team sheet selection. I now find myself thinking, what has Scott Allan got to do to get a start.

Many, many thanks for the birthday wishes ya beautiful shower a Tims! :-)

  16. Re the Stokes to Hibs story – Ronnie doesn’t even mention their name in his reply to what was a loaded question – that headline ( the Herald) was written in advance – we just actuall paid money for a Centre Half – who have that ‘bought’ – no none – this is classic deflection rather than seek the GSL war chest

  17. beatbhoy

Ha,ha…good spot! He doesn’t need any machine to mix it, cause a fight in an empty hoose and walk away laughing..salt of the earth though.

  18. I won’t see the game today Bhoys and Ghirls so enjoy, we’re off to the Kloster Mariastein to celebrate the wonderful and patient Mrs Starry’s birthday, I’ve just told her she shares a birthday with the TV star Hamiltontim:))

Happy Birthday to the good man who shines good light here and in real life. God bless you today and in all your days.

  21. Whilst hoping for the same level of performance today as against Hamilton Accies, today’s opponents will not be so poor and lacking energy as Hamilton were.

They had a game at the weekend prior and a Tuesday night game might have come a day too soon for them.

Now back in warmer climes it’s Timmy ‘s Bar in Fuengirola today to meet a workmate from days of yore. Not sure if the game will be on TV but taking an Ipaddy ting to watch on CTV assuming wifie is good enough. (The other wifie will be sitting on balcony back at not the I pad sipping bacardi n coke caring not a jot.

    Efe

  24. Big Georges Fan Club – Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar

Sviatchenko is only arriving in the country today and isn’t match fit. Danish league has been on break since mid December. Rogic is doubtful so may miss out. Why play a central defender in midfield when we have a surplus of central midfielders?

Hope RD resists playing Commons and keeps changes to a minimum. If Rogic not fit,

    Gordon

    Lustig Ambrose Simunovic Tierney

    Bitton McGregor

    GMS Allan Armstrong

    Griffiths

  25. Would also rather see Nesbitt on the bench ahead of Cole or Ciftci. Tuesday night would have been an ideal opportunity to give him, or another youngster like Joe Thomson, a run out. We need to start giving our own young players more opportunities.
