Key decision of the year for Neil Lennon

1418

If you thumb through the pages of the Celtic Quick News comments section you’ll find a couple of overlapping areas of indifferent form being reported.  One for Beram Kayal and one for the team as a whole.  You’ll also note several contributors commenting that Beram’s form improved after his new contract was signed, settling speculation surrounding the player.

It may be coincidental that Beram’s form seemed to pick up after his future was settled but the fact that this happened a few days after the pivotal 3-3 draw at Kilmarnock suggests a whole lot of what has been going right at Celtic was linked to the Israeli’s form in this crucial central midfield area.

Neil Lennon has a huge tactical decision to make.  Get it wrong and he will not be able to replicate the impressive run of 10 consecutive wins.  Before making a decision, a good place to research would be videos of Celtic’s run up to and including that Kilmarnock game.  Knowing some of the things to avoid is a good start.

I found him to be repugnant tonight. I have never sat and listened to his show live and thought it would be interesting tonight – I won’t be making the same mistake again.

He was not overly critical of the SNP but he did start arguing with a caller about Scottish culture and the validity of its existence – he complained about the White Heather club mentality, complained about the Bannockburn anniversary tie in and indeed Flower of Scotland. If that is his depth of knowledge of Scottish culture then he should have left well enough alone. Oh yeah and he said Shinty is NOT the national sport of Scotland which it may or may not be. It seems a silly point to labour but labour it he did.

    It is ludicrous.

    Snake,

you’ve gotta admit, there’s a wee bit of a laugh to be had at the WHC, Flower of Scotland, Marchin through the heather, etc. If it helps, the same can be said on the Irish front. National icons are a hoot… no?

It is a wee bitty cheesy to arrange the vote around such a time as it is for the Tories to attempt to do the same thing around the time of an English battle victory. Although the Tories I feel are being a tad Facetious.

I’d rather be invaded by Marsians intent in wiping out the human race than blive in an Independant Hunland (sorry Scotland).

A truly inclusive independent country is a lost dream, if it ever really was that.

What did McConnell get the ball rolling on?… We need to get the debate away from sectarianism to the actual real debate which is would it be better for OUR country to be independent financially and better for our Children. Most Catholics were brought up to vote Labour or most would say Socialist and would not know the difference. I was brought up to try and get ‘home rule’ if you make a f’ up then you have no one to blame.

As I said before voting for independence is not a vote for SNP its a vote for us to rule our own country . I wont go as far as the Gourock Ghirl the other day but I would say that if we get the chance to vote on it and anyone who does not vote for independence then hell mend them with what will come and then they can never blame the SNP for anything. They will feed right into the Tories hand.

Folk need to realise what we have potentially in the Clyde estuary and the oil fields in the north sea and also the renewable energy potantial..

There is 1 simple question I ask. If England did not think we were required do you think they would have still kept us.

  11. And , by the way, lovely to see good ole Charlie Gallagher getting some credit on here tonight.

Although decried by some fans at the time as being some kind of Regency Fop, his skill played a HUGE part

in that amazing period of Celtic’s history.

Without him, and the likes of Joe McBride, no Lisbon.

I raise my glass to Mister Charlie Gallagher.

  13. Thanks for the update Snake – and lest you think I’m defending Gorgeous George, there is a wee memory I have of when he was campaigning for his Hillhead seat around (I think?) 1992 ……

I was going into the Smiddy in Partick one evening while Gorgeous & entourage were exiting by the door I was about to enter.

My first view of him was in profile, still smiling & glad-handing as he departed the punters inside.

Just as he turned to step outside ( he hadn’t noticed me) his face lost its politician’s smile & changed to a kind of long-suffering Mr. Pissed off expression & I clearly heard him say “f****ng scum” to the nearest of his campaigning cronies.

Now I can’t say what had transpired in the minutes before, or what may have been said inside, or even to whom he was specifically referring.

All I can say is that the impression it gave me in the fleeting moment that it occurred, was that he meant the assembled punters inside, whose vote he was there to court.

Maybe my instinct was wrong but at the time here was no way I was going to vote for him just on that little cameo alone – not that it made any difference, I’m pretty sure he always had a good majority while he held that seat.

However, that image of GG always comes to mind for me & I’d be loath to trust him with much just on my (possibly flawed) instincts.

p.s. – That said, I had to grudgingly admire the way he dealt with the bunch of hypocritical inquisitors who attempted to take him on in the US over his Iranian associations.

  14. Margaret – thanks though your joke now seems to have vanished?

St Stivs, good evening I watched QT last night and Mr McK was not invited to say much more after his English nationalist rant. Don’t like the man! And Ms Sturgeon does not really get the old blood pressure going like Shaki does :o)

Sectarianism is a major part of the the BEST LITTLE HUNTRY IN THE WORLD’s makeup.

I’ve backed independence from knee high to a donkey.

I am not religous in the organised religous sense of the word.

But when your country is ran by bigots, albeit, an inch under the carpet from public view then I’d hold out no hope for a fair society for all.

Yes I’d love to see Scotland stand on its own two feet. But not at the expense of a minority of our society.

    GL2,

whats the point in voting for independence unless you have a political philosophy you’re voting for? For info, I’ve voted SNP in the past and happen to believe that Alex Salmond is the most astute political operator in the islands – but thats not meant as a compliment. Independence is only the start, what do we want to create? I don’t see any clear policies there. And… by the way… I classed my self as a socialist and know what it means, or used to. I’ve met and listened to too many socialist MP’s now who talk the talk, but don’t have a compassionate bone in their body.
