Killie prove you can get at this Rangers team

977

I watched Kilmarnock previous home game against Inverness, as shambolic a defensive performance as I have seen in the SPL.  Shipping six goals against the team who were, and remain, bottom of the league is the kind of result that can decimate team morale, but St Johnstone’s result at Ibrox last week offered some encouragement that you can get at this this Rangers team.

It’s worth pointing out a few things.  Rangers are still four points clear at the top of the league, if we were in that position we would rightly be delighted and confident.  Pascali’s goal for Kilmarnock was also only their second goal conceded in eight SPL away games and only their seventh overall in 16 games – getting on for half a season.  By comparison, Celtic have conceded 14 goals, including three at Kilmarnock.

While that defensive record is commendable, the loss of Steven Naismith leaves them disproportionately dependent on Nikica Jelavic to maintain their goal-scoring threat, and Jelavic is not known for season-long durability.

When news came through that Sone Aluko had paid his transfer fee to become a Rangers player few of us expected him to make as quick an impact on the league table as he has, single-handedly playing three Kilmarnock players onside at the goal.  This is an unfortunate start to the player’s Rangers career but Rangers fans have a reputation for scapegoating (among other things).  For some, Aluko’s card is marked.  He’ll need a lot of talent to recover from this one.

  1. Unexpected bonus today, heard on shortbread today that swally played a high line (never saw the game) but I suspect that this was to get hold of the ball …… seems they are having trouble getting hold of the round white thing …. change of defensive shape ….. to squeeze the game up the pitch …. oh dear…

…. yesterday our ghuys seemed to be applying themselves compared to the shambles of not so long ago …… Victor needs to be a first pick and young Dylan scored as he shocked a Saints midfielder by cleanly winning a tackle in midfield……

…… due to the cash constraints at Ipox, I would expect Jelavic to be dropped from now on with a niggle to protect the transfer money in January …….

You have been afflicted by something if you think we have a better goalie than McGreggor…

I have seen McG drop 2 goals into his own net already this season.

Has FF been at fault for any goals this season yet?

    Genuine question?

  3. Efra Juárez playing midfield for Zaraoza tonight. Sounds like they’re getting a bit of a chasing from Seville, even though Zaragoza are at home. It’s one-nil after 25 minutes (I think), a penalty for Seville. Efra didn’t give it away.

    Play up, that bhoy.

    totally agree on names

I have seen people refer to Lenny as Lennon on this blog and other blogs

I draw two immediate conclusions: they are either huns or they are not the kind of Celtic fans I want anything to do with…under any circumstances.

Try it for a second….think of a sentence with Lennon in it.

Nah..it just dizny work, in any context.

To use the guy’s surname conveys utter contempt for the man.

  7. i know its only talk on here about Cuellar and jelavic – but seriously – there is no way either would come to us. they wouldnt be able to live without fear of the rangers support and what they would do to them. noticed i havent said minority – they are all the same.

Cuellar is a good centre back but Jelavic isnt any better than what we have – in fact jelavic looked so unfit/uninterested today it was untrue

as for the the broadfoot thing – can we stop the puns, they are cracking me up

  8. HT

I agree he scored goals, but without the help of the cheats he wouldn’t have, in a few of the games when he scored late on, in an honestly officiated league he would have been off for constant fouling and diving, only my opinion, jeezo twas only last year granpa weir was as good a defender as there was in the spl, why was that then ?

They are the reason I am reluctant to slag off any player at our club, if we had a level playing field I believe our team would have the league sewn up by Christmass.

My Da used to extract the urine from me when I was a kid for supporting a team in scotland, when only one team were favoured, he tried in vein to get me to forget about football citing the cheating and the masonic conspiracies, maybe that’s all I can see, or he could well have been spot on.

Watched a Rangers game today for the first time in years. The boy Aluko who is getting most of the flak for playing everyone onside, was their best player. They did not play the 9-1-1 formation that they normally play which bodes well for the up and coming old Firm game next month. 12 points down to 4, this should fill the squad with the necessary belief.

All the rage with one of Catania’s non -politically affiliated crews ——- I walked passed them

heading to the Catania / Chievo game —– they were wearing the jackets with the built in goggles , woolies with built in goggles and wooly hats with built in goggles.

CP Company gear is all the rage for some of those that like fighting at the football —– same crew used to be dressed from head to toe in Stone Island.

Can you imagine the mindset of somebody who gets into a row with a player at a corner kick, then when challenged by said player to meet after the game, actually turns up?

What was he, 15 or something?

wouldn’t touch him – think he gets caught flat-footed too often.

Me – I would prefer someone like Lucio (who hands out – he sleeps with the fishes contracts) – attacks everything – takes no prisoners – can make a pass and scores from set-pieces.

Then again – there might be a small problem with his transfer fee and availability. :-)

Can I add that I wouldn’t swap Hooper or Stokes for Jelavic. But that doesn’t stop me thinking he’s a good footballer.

Having just re-read the hately piece from last month i remember saying at the time if big Dan is that bad why would inbred huns want him out the team for a better player.

    It doesn’t make sense.

I’m a DM fan….so is the Swedish national team manager.

When DM plays jellylegs is a man short ( 4-2 apart )

I know this , hately knows this and fat sally knows this.

Thats why the pressure has been put on DM bigtime.

Dont believe the hun media , dont buy the hun media.

As a team we’re starting to click, the confidence is building from 15pts to 4pts in a month.

As hately said the m’well was a BIG game!!

  20. On the very day the football family lost a real man of dignity to an illness that some people refuse to take seriously.

We have an absolute no mark of a man challenging his own supporters to a fight outside the ground and allegedley jumping out of a car and attacking some of them.

They really do not do dignity.

RIP Gary Speed and all the support in the world to the Speed family.

  23. Neil Lennon says NO to BESNA – Don’t think DM played in the 4-2 game…..in fact I don’t think that Jellyfish has scored against Celtic when DM has played.

His goals against us came in the league cup final and in the 4-2 game…both time DM didn’t play.

Not always a fan of DM but would play him against them every time…

  24. Absolutely shocked at the Gary Speed news today

like Gordon J, I remember the comments and maybe just maybe the guys who had a go at Gerard just missed the original

    posts at the time.

Brilliant for Celtic today but its all overshadowed by the tragic loss of Gary Speed

  25. Worse was written about Big Dan on CQN after his red card in Sion ofcourse the huns would react to our lynch mob support. We feed them they are not smart enough to lead. We give it to them on a plate. Thankfully we have Neil Lennon at the helm.

  27. StMichaelsBhoy2, me to. However now he competes for that slot against Commons and Ledley with cameo appearances by Paddy McCourt. If there are open spaces to play in then he is a great fit, but how often do we find those.
