Killie prove you can get at this Rangers team

977

I watched Kilmarnock previous home game against Inverness, as shambolic a defensive performance as I have seen in the SPL.  Shipping six goals against the team who were, and remain, bottom of the league is the kind of result that can decimate team morale, but St Johnstone’s result at Ibrox last week offered some encouragement that you can get at this this Rangers team.

It’s worth pointing out a few things.  Rangers are still four points clear at the top of the league, if we were in that position we would rightly be delighted and confident.  Pascali’s goal for Kilmarnock was also only their second goal conceded in eight SPL away games and only their seventh overall in 16 games – getting on for half a season.  By comparison, Celtic have conceded 14 goals, including three at Kilmarnock.

While that defensive record is commendable, the loss of Steven Naismith leaves them disproportionately dependent on Nikica Jelavic to maintain their goal-scoring threat, and Jelavic is not known for season-long durability.

When news came through that Sone Aluko had paid his transfer fee to become a Rangers player few of us expected him to make as quick an impact on the league table as he has, single-handedly playing three Kilmarnock players onside at the goal.  This is an unfortunate start to the player’s Rangers career but Rangers fans have a reputation for scapegoating (among other things).  For some, Aluko’s card is marked.  He’ll need a lot of talent to recover from this one.

Who should we sign in January? I’ve posted before that I’d sign Torsten Frings.

He’s a defensive midfielder, capped 79 times by Germany, and is currently playing for FC Toronto.

At 35, he’s outside of that 28-32, “peak years,” bracket, but I’d play him as a sweeper, like Lothar Mattheus and Dave McKay were in the twilight of their careers to such great effect.

He’s a vastly experienced player and could really sort out our occasional slap-stick stuff at the back. Also just what we need to see our young team through the tight, high-pressure games that await in the second half of the season.

  2. I found interesting piece on the Russian website.

Fernando Ricksen is fourth most brutal player in Russia of all time.

His fourth place is not surprise but surprise is his interview. How still active player can say that in the interview few weeks ago?

-Fernando, do you miss life in Russia?

-No – no, I have another priorities now. As an example, I try not to drink alcohol now. I drive my car a lot. Due to my football career I spend hours in my car. I need to drive from Belgium to Sittard, from Sittard to Alkmar, again and again. Okay, why not tell the truth ? I miss many things now. I had another life in Russia. All shops are closed after six o’clock here. Restaurants in here are closed early, only some of them work until 2 A.M. If you find restaurant opened late, you can’t order the meal after 10:30 PM. Russia was different. If I was hungry at 6 AM. it never was the problem to go to the restaurant and eat something. There in Russia you leave your house and all doors are open for you. I lived near Hermitage. That was wonderful life! Here I can’t drive my car as usual. If I would drive after alcohol, police would take my driving license! I could do in St. Petersburg whatever I wanted. I could drive my car after alcohol.

    Jellylegs is a striker.

I dislike hun strikers til they do a Dylan; thereafter I can be positively empathetic.

In all seriousness, Jelly is not coming to us but I sincerely hopes he is packing his bags after xmas…

The Smallest CSC I think you will find that Lennie said that in the January window he would be looking for an experienced striker. Now I agree we have not seen a lot of Bangura and its to early to judge him but Lennie has something on his mind when he wants another striker.H.H.

  5. Can’t believe Broadfoot challenged some Rangers fans to a square go. They must have egged him on.

    Just a thought………………

Neil is on record, as recent as yesterday in his post match interview, stating that he wants a centre half come January. Why not go for Carlos Cuellar? McLeish quoted ‘them’ 2 million during the last transfer window. I think we can be sure that McLeish wouldn’t be selling duds to his beloved dignity. Given that Cuellar is only an occasional player ( no shame competing with Collins and Dunne) coming to the end of his contract it will be considerably less come January. So if Alfy ‘used to be a hun but he is alright now’ why not Cuellar? Of course there is the added GIRUY value. He is also on record stating that he likes Glasgow, the kids were settled there etc. ….

the kids were settled there etc….

How settled would his kids be if he signed for us?

The kids lives would’nt be safe from the inbred knuckle dragging scum.

As a player yes i’d sign him but would he put not only himself but his family through the hell that would follow shortly after he signed.

His first question at his signing talks..

Can you guarantee my families safety?

Eh sorry no Carlos this is Scotland and your signing for Celtic you and your family will be hounded, abused, victimised and assaulted.

If the guilty party or parties are charged they will be found innocent even having plead guilty because its open season on all Catholics, Irish and anyone connected to Celtic.

Agood player but i feel a non starter for us.

  13. I was shocked and saddened when my wife told me about Gary Speed this afternoon. He was a great player and a model professional who played for some top clubs in England and was also a league winner with Leeds. Gary also had played more games in the Premiership than any other player at the time of his retirement. It’s good to read so many of the posters on here take time to pass on their condolences to Gary’s family. It is a very sad day for football. Rest In Peace, Gary.

With regard to calling our manager by his surname. As others have pointed out today, the Scottish media fawn all over Rangers FC with their “Walter” and their”Alistair” while referring to our managers as “Srachan” and “Lennon”. We don’t need to show the same disrespect. It doesn’t take much time to type “Neil” before you type his surname. I cannot remember many Celtic supporters refer to our NIAR, European Cup winning manager as “Stein”. His name was always “Big Jock”. Billy McNeill was similarly “Big Billy”.

    Aye, very clever, very snide.

I was referring to Neil Lennon’s condition, not yours.

Jeremy Paxman has clinical depression. Churchill had clinical depression. Neither is/was exactly an eggshell. Neil Lennon will know what is likely to trigger an episode for him. He’ll be aware of the warning signs and will deal with things accordingly.

  16. Ah —– Mark Hatelely

Old man who mans the petrol station down the road is a big Milan fan .

He frequently wears a very grubby Tshirt which features a photograph of Hateley scoring the headed winner for Milan in a mega important game against Inter. A hugely significant goal for Milan -a hugely significant goal for Milan fans . First derby win for Milan in 6 years- A brave new dawn -The end of years of being dominated by Inter .

He calls Hateley — Attila l’un ——— Attila The Hun .

Like many Milan supporters he will tell you that Hateley was less than average but he absolutely loves him for that goal. —-

    Lol

Whether we like it or not his goals, as much as our failings, won them the title. I don’t know the exact stats but there were a number of games in the last few months of the season which they won by the odd goal. He was the scorer.

  18. FROM FASCIST FASCIST:

    Broadfoot at end of game

I know there is commentary of this on the other thread, but want to get out what happend today and the truth of what went on so everyone is aware.

I was down the front of the chadiwck stand today, just to the right of the goal as you look at the pitch, basically the side where Kilmarnock won their corner in the 90 +2 minute or whatever it was.

Well, our team came back to defend the corner and Broadfoot comes to cover the front post, where he turns to the Chadwick stand and smiles. Not sure what this was about, but it looked like it was to do with the fact that some guys were pouring up the stairs to head home.

Anyway, I took exception to this and shouted very loudly straight at him:

” It’s not funny Broadfoot, get your finger out”

He then just lost it and started gesturing straight back at me pointing towards the dugout/players area in a see you outside there sense. Basically calling for a fight.

When this happened about another couple hundred bears were witness and started straight back at Broadfoot calling him for everything.

The play broke from the corner, however Broadfoot meandered out of the box whilst still facing the Chadwick and gesturing straight at me/us to meet him round the front entrance later.

The final whistle then goes shortly afterwards and Broadfoot makes his move towards the Chadwick still gesturing to me and fellow fans to come round to players entrance etc

At this point McGregor moved swiftly towards him trying to huckle him up the tunnel, however the gesturing and shouting from him continued.

The result was myself and hundreds around me screaming straight back at him for his behaviour.

Now I am not trying to paint our players in a bad light for no reason, but I thought this bhaviour was shocking and not impressed at all. Debating whether to chalk it up to emotions running high or a serious personal destruction of character by the lad.

  19. StMichaelsBhoy2 on

I think if you asked any Celtic supporter which Rangers players we would take, the two most popular choices would be Jellyfish and Davis.

But I’ll tell you something – I wouldn’t swap Gary Hooper or Anthony Stokes for Jellyfish, and I wouldn’t swap Biram Kayal or Victor Wanyama or Dave Ki or Scott Brown or Joe Ledley for Davis.

Neither would I swap James Forrest for Naibalance.

We are better than them in every department.

  20. What a weekend. Was being used by Mrs TITO as a paintbrush today, but the background music from begg was just brilliant. That guy needs a chill-pill. (especially tonight).

Thought his mucka’s on shortbread were surprisingly neutral at the end. It’ll take them the rest of the week to pull down the underpants that they inadvertently sucked- up their bahookies in their quest to come across as neutral.

The gap is closing. Happy Days.

Neil Lennon is, and always will be, a Celtic legend.

Must be something in the water here – I agree with every statement you just made.

  26. StMichaelsBhoy2, I’d consider dropping Samaras for Jelly as they provide similar attributes in being strong-ish runners. Sammy is probably quicker but Jelavic is more of a striker and we have enough attacking midfielders to be able to lose one.
