Killie prove you can get at this Rangers team

977

I watched Kilmarnock previous home game against Inverness, as shambolic a defensive performance as I have seen in the SPL.  Shipping six goals against the team who were, and remain, bottom of the league is the kind of result that can decimate team morale, but St Johnstone’s result at Ibrox last week offered some encouragement that you can get at this this Rangers team.

It’s worth pointing out a few things.  Rangers are still four points clear at the top of the league, if we were in that position we would rightly be delighted and confident.  Pascali’s goal for Kilmarnock was also only their second goal conceded in eight SPL away games and only their seventh overall in 16 games – getting on for half a season.  By comparison, Celtic have conceded 14 goals, including three at Kilmarnock.

While that defensive record is commendable, the loss of Steven Naismith leaves them disproportionately dependent on Nikica Jelavic to maintain their goal-scoring threat, and Jelavic is not known for season-long durability.

When news came through that Sone Aluko had paid his transfer fee to become a Rangers player few of us expected him to make as quick an impact on the league table as he has, single-handedly playing three Kilmarnock players onside at the goal.  This is an unfortunate start to the player’s Rangers career but Rangers fans have a reputation for scapegoating (among other things).  For some, Aluko’s card is marked.  He’ll need a lot of talent to recover from this one.

  1. Just a thought………………

Neil is on record, as recent as yesterday in his post match interview, stating that he wants a centre half come January. Why not go for Carlos Cuellar? McLeish quoted ‘them’ 2 million during the last transfer window. I think we can be sure that McLeish wouldn’t be selling duds to his beloved dignity. Given that Cuellar is only an occasional player ( no shame competing with Collins and Dunne) coming to the end of his contract it will be considerably less come January. So if Alfy ‘used to be a hun but he is alright now’ why not Cuellar? Of course there is the added GIRUY value. He is also on record stating that he likes Glasgow, the kids were settled there etc. ….

    >> right i want a wee argument

I’m not really into arguing, but healthy debate is good. Lets say everyone is fit. Who do you pick against a) Them; and b) a decent European side.

For me Izzy and Matthews are first choice at full back. FF in goal. Charlie and … not really seen enough of KW so I’d still be tempted to go with DM. Last year Kayal and Ledley was our best midfield, but now its BK and VW. So do we drop Mr Dependable Ledley to let Commons play? Do we drop Forrest when our Captain is fit for selection out on the right?

Early doors at his time with the huns he bought a house in Helensburgh next door to The Hillhouse. Rennie McIntosh blah blah.

Anyway the house needed a lot of work to get it up to the standard he was used to, think he was just back from Monaco then. My good mate at the time, a big big Tim, was given the job of upgrading the property at a fairly substantial cost.

Everyone employed on the works were Tims. It was so funny. Had a look round just before completion. Hateley’s dressing rooms etc. were twice as big as his wife’s.

I could tell you much more but another time.

He famously wanted all his front facing windows replaced with the usual UPVC stuff not understanding that HIS house was also a listed building and he was told to naff off.

  4. hearing that big kirk got out his car and nutted a Hun according to FF, allegedly.Secterian attack?

  5. Killie fans singing ‘go home ya huns’? Well, almost every fan of every club other than rangers refers to them as ‘huns’ – the vast majority of whom are, due to sheer weight of numbers, most likely not Catholics. Ergo – ‘hun’ doesny mean Protestant but does mean neanderthal, knuckle dragging supporter of the Rangers. End of.

And while we’re at it – I heard a chorus of a little ditty called ‘We’re coming down the road’ a song about the UVF and which goes ‘We’re the volunteers of the UVF and we’re coming down the road’ (quite why they are doing that I don’t know, but…….) It is also sung by the EDL and SDL (English Defence LEague, Scottish Defence League – right wing thugs who apart from targetting Muslims have now declared Trade Union Activists and other ‘Lefties’ to be targets for their hatred – they tried to target St Paul’s Occupy protest and have caused at least one Trade Union official to be placed under police protection for speaking out against them.

So I look forward to a week of headlines about Rangers fans ‘Songs of Hate’, a police report to the SPL and SFA and round condemnation from across the print media and of course from our very own warrior against hate Pat Nevin.

    Shall I hold my breath?

  6. Row101 – we could do worse and most of us would have no problem signing an ex ‘Other’ – not being a scout I don’t know of any other options out there but I am sure there are some. My only worry is that he is too ugly to grace the hoops.

  7. I was one of those who felt that our manager shouldn’t have been appointed not because of his depression but because of how the media would make play with it. And how they have! I have enormous respect for our manager for his honesty about his illness and for what he has achieved, given the pressure he is forced to live under. But I would not in any way want to make that pressure worse.

We Celtic supporters owe him big time, for his having the courage to take on the job. That is why, whether he wins us the league or not, we should not be calling for his head, as was commonplace here just a few weeks ago.

The press are attempting to portray the Green brigade as some kind of devils.

You may have noticed they are now labelled “sinister”

  9. I’d welcome Cuellar into the fold. On ability alone he fits the bill.

We could offer him Redemption and regular first team fitba……………as a GIRUY to the currants it would be delightful, but I suspect King Carlos knows and appreciates the environment would change overnight should he ever aspire to wearing the Hoops.

  10. In 3 weeks we’ve reduced the deficit from 15 to 4 points and yet some still want to focus attention on the deficiencies of Celtic players.

Please go back and read the post which contained Hatley’s ‘Nov 6th’ comments. That is what we’re up against.

Their policy of divide and conquer will only be a success if we allow it.

  11. Interesting to hear Ally McCoist actually say the word “panic” his post match comments, his very denial of it is a sure sign it is very much present.

Today’s result was no surprise to me, none at all. A team with the likes of Whittaker, Perry, Goian, Broadfoot, Edu, McCulloch, Aluko and Lafferty in the starting 11 have no right beating anybody.

    Answer my earlier post.

Did you or not earlier in the week suggest you were for giving up your season book.

How hard is it for you to answer that?

A simple yes or no will suffice. But if you tell a fib we all can easily check it out.

Why not go the whole hog and try for both Cuellar and Jelivac they would be a great help to our young squad.I would also be happy to see us sign Craig Gordon. H.H.

Isn’t there a hint of truth in the fact that if the TV sports presenter you’re discussing wanted to hold his championship medals he’d have to get some scuba gear and scour the floor of Loch Lomond?

That made me laugh. I like to think so as well. I am not sure though, if Mrs Gemmell, Deans, Brown……………….would not chuckle at the thought! He can be as ugly as Mr Davie Dodds but if he kicks balls off the line then I will have a soft spot for him!!

I don’t read newspapers. What have they said about NL’s condition because even though I don’t read their rubbish I’m pretty sure I would’ve read the aftermath on here ?

Steinreignedsupreme …..16.46……..I COULD NOT AGREE WITH YOU MORE……. the negativity towards our great Club has been ‘fierce’ and ‘unrelenting’, not least over the past 3 seasons, as they pursued CL money to aid rankers survival, (abject failure) and I have been very disappointed by the few posters who cannot see past their own personal disappointment at individual results….. there’s a bigger picture here and, whilst some constructive criticism is justified, we must remember what we are up against ……..Support the BHOYS …!!!!!!!

    ……………………………………………………………………………..

Let’s not make excuses. The reasons for Rangers success over the last 3 seasons lie much closer to home. January 2009 and a failure to strenthen (Willo Flood apart) are the root cause of our failure and their success. We were 7 points ahead for God’s sake. Let’s not rewrite history. We blew it and handed them the initiative.

Would you pay the full asking price for Jelavic IF you knew the money was going to HMRC and not Them?

  23. Anyone else notice that Sammy ran straight at Alan Thompson yesterday when he scored. Tommo giving the big man some pointers on the definition of “gallus” recently perhaps? None better than to teach the quality, to be sure.

    Yes. That brings back memories.

The crown jewels from memory were kept/displayed in a particular room, lots of blue trim etc. as was the kitchen appliances. They weren’t kept in the room, the kitchen appliances I mean.

Anyway mustn’t go there but the night of the housewarming my mate was shunned early doors until Hately explained who he was and how instrumental he was in transforming the house.

The house was full of huns but fawning over my mate down to Hateley. And did my mate take the piss? You bet.

The Smallest CSC A good question my friend obviously if the fictional seven million offer isnt fictional for Jelivac no we cant compete at that level but I would be prepared to offer 3 Millionas he is a class player. H.H.

  27. reilly1926,

The media don’t have to refer directly to our manager’s illness to put pressure on him. They have created a mindset where “he brings it on himself” is all that need be said. Do you think the bombs and bullets were just sent? The media had created the frenzy.

  28. IMO we dont know how good Bangura is. Jelavic is good in the context of the SPL but misses more than he scores, and was instrumental in the early exit of Them from Europe (he gets bonus points for that).
