Killie prove you can get at this Rangers team

977

I watched Kilmarnock previous home game against Inverness, as shambolic a defensive performance as I have seen in the SPL.  Shipping six goals against the team who were, and remain, bottom of the league is the kind of result that can decimate team morale, but St Johnstone’s result at Ibrox last week offered some encouragement that you can get at this this Rangers team.

It’s worth pointing out a few things.  Rangers are still four points clear at the top of the league, if we were in that position we would rightly be delighted and confident.  Pascali’s goal for Kilmarnock was also only their second goal conceded in eight SPL away games and only their seventh overall in 16 games – getting on for half a season.  By comparison, Celtic have conceded 14 goals, including three at Kilmarnock.

While that defensive record is commendable, the loss of Steven Naismith leaves them disproportionately dependent on Nikica Jelavic to maintain their goal-scoring threat, and Jelavic is not known for season-long durability.

When news came through that Sone Aluko had paid his transfer fee to become a Rangers player few of us expected him to make as quick an impact on the league table as he has, single-handedly playing three Kilmarnock players onside at the goal.  This is an unfortunate start to the player’s Rangers career but Rangers fans have a reputation for scapegoating (among other things).  For some, Aluko’s card is marked.  He’ll need a lot of talent to recover from this one.

If I was Neil Lennon’s dad I wouldn’t make an ar*e of myself OR my son by posting like an idiot on here.

    Honestly, I wouldn’t.

Ye I remember that post last year(?) when he made that claim.

May God bless Gary Speed and I hope now that he has found peace from the demons which must have blighted him.

I have never seen anyone on here ‘vilify’ Lenny for highlighting his problems with depression. What I would say is that those who constantly slate him are mindful of today’s tragic events.

  3. Athletico’s first visit to Celtic Park since that scoreless draw in the European Cup semi-final back in 1974. Celtic were on the verge of a third European Cup final in seven years, believe it or not.

  4. Great weekend.

Good bonus today, after our fine performance yesterday. The GB brilliant as usual.

Been looking through a few photos of yesterdays GB flag display, has anyone got a good link to a close up of the white banner which looks like the devil in a reapers shadow, with what looks like the press at the RHS.

    Thanks in advance

    NL’s dad.

I couldn’t care less if he is NL’s Dad or not. To come on here and say that Neil Lennon was vilified for having mental problems is out of order and just a lie.

  6. Listening to five live 606 programme right now.

All about Gary Speed and he comes across as such a really decent guy. All so sad.

Feel sorry for Robbie Savage; the guy is in bits and in my view the BBC should have withdrawn him from the show; very unfair on Savage.

So, so sad for Gary Speed. RIP

I wouldn’t say Neil Lennon was vilified for having a mental illness – but there were several posters who questioned whether he should have been appointed as manager because of his depression.

    ——————————————————————————–

And if there were any posters stating this they should be UTTERLY ashamed of themselves.

  12. Great weekend for us. We are now back on their tail. Home win on Dec 28 and we will have a Happy New Year. We will not need their 10 point deduction.

Tragic news about Gary Speed. It seems to have come as a huge surprise to all his friends. They all comment how happy he was yesterday.

How his mother and father wife and two sons will cope I do not know. I hope and pray the tabloids respect his family and allow them to grieve.

    Some how I doubt it.

Apologies if I’m wrong here but weren’t you for packing it in during the week?

Seem to recall one or two posters suggesting you pass your season ticket to a real supporter who for whatever reason couldn’t afford one.

  16. Boy how much am i going to enjoy watching sportscene tonight bring it on the boys in green are on the march and we’re coming to get a hun near you lol..

We played athletico after that the game was behind closed

doors because of the rapid Vienna carry on the season before.

I could be wrong though if any poster knows for sure.

“Rangers fans have a reputation for scapegoating”. Substitute “Celtic” and or “some posters on CQN” and you will be at least as accurate. This season alone has seen scapegoating by Celtic “supporters” more than matching anything down Ibrox way. I have personally witnessed Celtic players being abused at Celtic Park this season, and not just by individuals, en masse by those I would consider to be more than glory hunters. Still I will give them some credit, they know how to sing when we are winning.

Only because it’s you mind:o) who would you like to have been appointed back in those days when the job was up for grabs and most importantly would have taken on the job given the very likely constraints placed on any appointee?

  20. coorslad is Neil Lennon on

SSN,reported that bookies have stopped taking bets on Steve Bruce being sacked, and installed Martin o’Neil as fav for the job..it then showed Bruce getting interviewed after the game yesterday..The man doesn’t look well..The presure was bulging from his face, witch looked very blotchy..In light of what happened today with Gary Speed,I hope the people who abused Steve yesterday, have a long look at themselves..Sky sports are a disgrace..sensationlising it,and adding to the mans pressures..

  21. The sad news about Gary Speed has numbed me from appreciating the Kilmarnock win.

The highlights of yesterdays match are on the BBC website. Dylan`s goal looks almost as good as it did yesterday.

  22. hankray @ 18:13…

Unfortunately we had to play Atletico Madrid behind closed doors at Celtic Park in the first round of 1985 European Cup Winners Cup. We lost (1-2) too.

Desperately sad news about Gary Speed.

I remember that, can’t recall who but I was astonished at some of the posts, I couldn’t see any point in responding to the numpties who were posting the garbage.

    Re Gary Speed….

I would know a bit about depression, not personally, but people close to me, I noticed when they were depressed and am surprised that nobody noticed he was depressed, if indeed he was, the assumption of depression seems to be taken for granted, there could be other reasons.

Gordon – That Neil’s ability to perform was questioned by some on here due to him being ill only underlines the huge undertaking we all face to accept mental illness for what it is. If you break your leg you go and get it fixed. Education is a must.

There were a lot of names with managerial experience mentioned at the time – whether they were realistic candidates is another question. My point was simply that the Celtic job is too big to be a manager’s first job. Mr Lennon is doing his best to prove me wrong!
