HOT SMOKED on 4TH FEBRUARY 2018 12:02 PM

Off the top of my head, the only thing I would criticise a player for is not trying. I don`t recall a situation where I have witnessed that ( though no doubt many will refresh my memory).

Criticism of a Manager is probably fairer but unlikely to be truly sound when his expertise is compared with that of the complainant .

    ===============================================

Fair and reasonable post mate. It amazes me the number of fans who will just loose any sense to vent their frustration.

    Do so myself tbh :-)

  2. !!BADA BING!! on 4TH FEBRUARY 2018 12:21 PM

TTR- I think Bitton played well when he came on, but at the goal, you don’t see a natural defender there…….

    ——

There was one occasion when he saw Jones out for a goal kick when one on one. He did fine.

  3. TURKEYBHOY on 4TH FEBRUARY 2018 12:05 PM

Totally agree with your comments, my wee lad has been ball boy against Celtic and still to this day swears Bitton is by far the Celtic player who spent the most time with the boys having a kick about with them chatting away and generally being a good guy.

Bitton should mark the guy standing one yard behind him and five yards from goal, the same guy he ran side by side with into the box. You seem to be suggesting he should step into no mans land and leave the guy who scored the goal unmarked. You’re asking me a question that has already been answered.

    =======================================================

What about the guy smack bang in the centre, unmarked, shouting for the ball (the one Bitton becomes aware of) or are your eyes trained to the (eventual) goalscorer ?

    Watch it.

  5. Bitton threaded a long pass along the deck to the right wing yesterday, through traffic, a pass that I don’t think anyone else in our team could have made, even Rogic. The lad can play football and he’s unfairly damned on here, I sometimes think.

    TURKEYBHOY

Stevie Clarke supported Kilmarnock as a kid. His brother,Paul, was their centre-half at the time. He made an incredible overhead goal-line clearance,IIRC. Apart from that,a good solid pro who gave up the game to join the police.

    I think. Long time ago.

  7. Cults

Agree, you could argue we did have too many footballers but who complained when we heard BR’s starting line up?

Nobody I’d suggest, but within 15 minutes it was evident that it was going to be a siege, losing both CB’s cost us all three points and not the silly scapegoating by all the great ‘players’ and ‘coaches’ and self agrandised experts who post on CQN ad nauseam.

Any pick of Celtic back three leaves you with zero full backs making fast breakaway attacks out of a packed defence a potent weapon.

The Kilmarnock goal was made easier with an ‘emergency’ back three, and BR’s has succeeded with a back three since the winter break, other than yesterday.

If he could turn the clock back like we all try on team selection, he’d not only be a world class manager but a world class magician.

    BIGCUPWINNERS

We had six players in the box as the Killie player controlled the ball. We had eight in the box when he played it.

None of our players were within five yards of a Killie player, bar the fella who played it in.

    Win as a team,lose as a team,and that was a team goal.

  9. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

    FIELDOFDRAMS

I think a lot of our support just vent.

It was Nir yesterday, cause he was closest to the scorer. No thought is given to the fact Mulumbu was super-confident yesterday, and no wonder after destroying out midfield. Nor the fact his appearance in our box was an overload (given the fact 4 Celts watch the ball.

He (or on Clark’s instruction) also (and this is just my opinion) seemed to drive forward a few times at this point. Disjointed patched up Celtic defence too mind.

I’d have settled for a draw at half-time.

  10. Gerryfaethebrig on

I thought the pass fae Jordan Jones to Mulumbo was excellent nullifying Nir & co

Sometimes the other team actually play well

We lost cause they collectively worked harder and dominated.

    Win as a team,lose as a team,and that was a team goal – agreed

The Mulumbu guy was the man to beat, why no one got that mystifies me.

ps you reading my post (and the surrounding episode) right ?

  12. glendalystonsils on

    BOURNESOUPRECIPE

Correct. Had we not lost the two CB’s, we would not have lost that game. Both Musonda and Forrest had to drop deeper as the pattern of the game changed. While Sinclair saw quite a lot of the ball, he was unable to do much with it. After we lost the goal, we had no option but to try to push up ,which left our makeshift backline exposed.

Are you Yousouff Mulumbis agent ?

Again, everything you said about Mulumbo yesterday I agree with as well, he bossed the game but still don’t think he would get in our starting 11 :-)

    GFTB

(Half full) – Peach of a ball and threaded through a (half empty) clutch of Celts, as BMCUW there were a few Celts in the vicinity but all not close enough to stop the pass.

  15. GLASSTWOTHIRDSFULL on 4TH FEBRUARY 2018 12:23 PM

    Nobody blamed McGregor yet?

    ————-‘

Well kind of. I have thought that Callum McGregor has been the most improved player under BR. However in recent games, for one reason or another his progress has stalled.

If his progress and form had not dipped then he would have played and the shape of the team and subsequently the result could have differed.

    Simples.

I think Craig Brown & Chick Young are reading your posts as they just referred to Stevie Clarke’s brother Paul on radio Scotland :-)

  17. BCW

A good point you’ve made re Bitton’s dilemma as the cross is played.

No one is tracking the run of Makenzie (7) which puts Bitton in a horrible spot.

Stay with Mulumbu who would be harder target to hit for the crosser or close down Makenzie who was closer to the crosser and readying for a tap in.

With hindsight he made the wrong choice but the tracking back from the midfield at their goal was a big factor in conceding the goal.

No midfielder covered the runs of Mulumbu or Makenzie from deep in their half.

Bitton was trying to put out fires not of his own making IMO

  18. look end of the day, on the day,the better team won, it could have been 3. lets move on to thistle.hh.

  19. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

    GERRYFAETHEBRIG

Gerry I’m actually criticising Broony. He has the nous to realise Mulumbu was fired for the game. Scott normally relishs the challenge. Yesterday nobody fancied “it”. Now why Broonie didn’t just emphasised the lack of dig in the team at times.

Stark contrast to the Hearts game. It’s neither pretty or modern but sometimes the game just needs ground out.

  20. Been to Mass, been to the gym and on here we are pouring over the entrails of yesterday.

We deserved to lose and why do we need to apportion blame? Bitton, in my opinion, played very well yesterday and was effective as a last 5 minutes target man also.

Time for Sunday family lunch, the lhad is here, daughter is here and grand lhad is here as well. Perfectly set up day. Was going to be tagliatelle bolognese however no fresh tagliatelle at the store, so penne pasta it has to be. The ragu is simmering nicely and I will allow myself one small glass of Gavi as I have to taxi the lhad back to the airport tonight. Enjoy your day fellow Celts. HH

    BIGCUPWINNERS

Aye,and I agreed with your comments. Just added to them by pointing out that no-one was to blame for that goal-everyone was.

I knew it was goal-bound before the guy played the ball across goal, and I doubt I’m the only person on here who quietly swore at the same time.

We were all over the shop, but I’m not gonna lose any sleep over a poor result and performance. It happens, they were better than us after the first twenty minutes or so.

That’s life, that’s football, that’s why Ayr United got beat yesterday and done me for over a grand.

  23. BMCUW

Paul Clarke, Stevie’s brother, attended St Michael’s, a year or two behind me iirc.

Watched him a few times playing for the school team. A big lump of a bhoy – more a Roddy Forsyth type as opposed to a George Connelly!

Was a wee bit surprised to discover that he ended up having a decent career as a pro, tbh!

    Good luck to the ghuy.

  25. BOURNESOUPRECIPE

Awe I really miss this guy, he was the voice of Celtic streams at that time, I used to end myself listening to him and then he would just disappear mid game for a kip on the sofa:))

    Big Cup Winners 12.56pm

    At last !!!!!

I knew what you meant yesterday about nobody taking Mulumbo to task :-)

I think, just my opinion, Broony was less effective as Boyata & Ajer we’re off the park early doors so as our main player he wasn’t his normal self especially with only one centre back (making his debut) & young KT were our only recognised defenders

Big Packy, I enjoy posters talking about our defeat, sometimes more enjoyable when we just win all the time :-)

  27. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on 4TH FEBRUARY 2018 12:28 PM

    Bada

What would a natural defender do ?

I think he would have more awareness of forwards around him, and position himself accordingly , as discussed NIr is not a CB, but is improving whenever he gets a run

As GFTB said, Jones sees the gap behind Bitton, and puts a good ball in.HH

Also Kouassi getting a yellow card in first 10mins hindered our midfield prescence
