  1. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

    BADA BING

Watch the video mate. Nir is caught between 2, he moves a yard towards the guy moving unmarked adjacent to the penalty spot. The yard is enough for a superb ball.

  2. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

    STARRY PLOUGH

    That made me laugh……..

Probably lead to accusation of dehumanising.

  3. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

    Greenpinata

I’m a big fan of Callum. Think he gives us something a bit different.

Agreed he has been a bit short of his form of earlier in the season.

Think he has missed playing with Dembele and Roberts who are on his wavelength.

We could (should) have had 2 pens for Kirkie doing his Greco-Roman wrestler impression at corners .

  5. What is the Stars on

It was a mistake to release Efe Ambrose.

He was a scapegoat that most could agree on.

Bitton will never be half the scapegoat Efe was

  6. Good Afternoon All…

Some good circumspect comments this morning. Didn’t read too far back:))

It was a frustrating game to watch, when that team clicks they are unplayable, too often there is just something missing.

When Ajer went off I thought we’d revert to a back four…

    Mibees 4-1-2-3

Then I saw Sinclair, puzzled was I, then Brendan made the obvious substitution… in hindsight maybe I was right the first time.

When we were one down and chasing the game Steve Clarke took advantage with a counter-attacking option. They looked more likely to score, we were up against a very well organised and motivated side.

Still, we should have had at least one goal, with the talent that was on the field, we miss Armstrong in games like yesterday.

Interesting comments re- too many attacking players…

I remember a while back, I our aul 4-4-2 days Paul67 saying it was a pity we couldn’t play Naka, McGeady and Maloney together… looked on as too lightweight.

Think Henry made a good debut under difficult circumstances. JR67 looks good, just needs to get the support and blending with the team.

Think we are seeing a better standard of Football in Scotland, some good Managers. Lenny had an excellent result yesterday. Needs a few more to get him to Euro contention.

    Hail Hail

  7. I blame Craig Gordon, James Forrest Michael Lustig, Nir Bitton, Oliver Ntcham, Scott Sinclair, Callum McGregor, Jack Hendry, Moussa Dembélé, Odsonne Edouard and given time, Charly Musonda.

  8. As many have highlighted before a regular update on the expected recovery time of the players out injured would I think help and keep the support informed, if this is given at pre match press conferences it does not reach those who do not get to seen the full press conferences, it could also be on the club website as an alternative, we do not need to know private medical info just progress and when they will be back.

  9. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Jones h ad two of our players in front of him just as he passed the ball between the two of them. One of them should have got closer to him.

I watched a recording of last night’s match of the day. What a fitting and fantastic tribute to the late and great Cyrille Regis before the match by West Brom.

  10. Bitton was left with 2 players to mark at their goal. One at the far post behind him & one running in the middle of the goal at the penalty spot. Neither were covered goalside by any other Celtic players. None. Mulumbu tried to draw Bitton away from the centre so as to leave room for Brophy running into the centre of the goal from deep.

The most immediate danger was from the player advancing in central position, Brophy. Bitton took a step towards him just as Jones clipped the ball to the unmarked Mulumbu behind him.

As others have said four Celtic players were drawn to Jones.(Kouassi, Brown, Forrest & Hendry) KT was behind Mulumbu & Musonda had lost Brophy in the middle.

To criticise Bitton in these circumstances because he had 2 players to mark is odious & quite frankly ridiculous.

I agree with Turkeybhoy in his assessment of Bitton. He was excellent yesterday as he usually is.

There’s a difference between critical assessment & scapegoating.

One is based on evidence based analysis while the other is a relic of the bronze age when victims were chosen because they were expendable.

  11. Good afternoon everybody , a little bit of good news needed does anyone know if Paddy will be fit for the Thistle game this weekend, I was sure that was his target earlier last month. Re yesterday my opinion was that when n/Cham plays well Celtic play well, and yesterday he was totally out of sort on that surface and would probably been replaced by McGregor but for the centre half injuries. Anyway still 8 points clear at top of the league, won the league cup, still in the Scottish cup, and still in the Europa League, wish I wasn’t such a pessimist.HH

  12. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Before the game yesterday Steve Clarke said for Kilmarnock to win they would have to play above themselves and Celtic woul need to have an off day and that is exactly what happened. H.H.

  13. Just seen the huns score….it’s sunny….and we’re having steaks for tea……

    Ffs,only 8 points clear?!!!

Sack the board, clear out the players, bin the management. This is just not bliddy acceptable.

  15. CultsBhoy- Last of the famous international PlayBhoys on

    Big Cup Winner

Yes very familiar with playing on 3G. I’m still coaching u16 youth team and son played a fair bit for Montrose and Dundee (pro youth) last year so been exposed to 4G.

I understand the approach required and the type of player it suits best. Ultimately though we had the quality to overcome Kilmarnock but just not the communication to do so.

Perhaps understandable given the number of new faces.

Credit to Killie they executed a perfect game plan.

  16. Gerryfaethebrig on

    Papajoe55 2.35pm

Spot on, our two early injuries curtailed our manager, usually his unforced substitutions change our play, yesterday he didn’t have the choice to influence our team

  17. Johns1 – I agree re biton. He was probably our best player yesterday. I’ve been a fierce critic of his in the past because he slows the game down so much when he plays midfield sometimes but he is generally a very dependable player.

  18. I got into a wee online dispute last year with Philbhoy last year when I predicted that we would not make it through to the end of the season unbeaten and that, when we eventually lost, Brendan Rodgers would be getting a lot of criticism. I think he felt I was being unfaithful to my club.

I was dead wrong, and glad to be, about the first half of the prediction (along with most of the country at the time, such is the magnitude of that Invincibles achievment) but I was right about the second part of the prediction. In fact, I have under-estimated how vehement the response to the Hearts gubbing would be. And I see that vehemence still in the reaction to the fact that our results are not as imperious as last year.

But how do you improve on an Invincibles year? Well, better European performance is the obvious answer. Was this year better? Most would say “no!” because we did not manage the 3 results (all draws against Man City-tweice and Gladbach once) this time around. This year we only had one good result- the away win in Belgium. Last year we had one heavy drubbing from Barca- this year we had 2 (both from PSG). And yet-we got post-Christmas Euro competition as our results got us a 3rd place rather than the 4th we got in our so-called better year. In objective terms, that looks like improvement.

I am pessimistic about getting by Zenit and just as pessimistic about getting by the next round, if we do manage that. That does not mean that I rate Zenit as a top team- just that I rate them as better than us and likely to beat us, as are most of the Europa teams left. They are likely to beat us but nothing is guaranteed and we have a puncher’s chance of winning a couple of ties. I don’t think the present squad is yet ready to have a long run of beating clubs who are shopping in more elite player markets. And in saying so I am no more unfaithful than I would be in saying that my wife is not quite as good looking as Michelle Pfeiffer.

So, we have not achieved better domestic results, having lost twice and drawn 6 times compared with 4 draws and 0 defeats last season. Well leaving aside the fact that you cannot improve on an Invincible treble-winning season unless you, realistically, expect the team to never get beat or never concede a goal, or unless they bring back the Quizball tournament.

The criticism Brendan got, during our Invincibles time, was that it was a bit of a monkey on our back, preventing us from blooding young players for fear of upsetting team form. Well that monkey is off our back- we are blooding new players- and they are very young. We should expect some inconsistency, some falterings on the way to trying to replicate last year’s domestic dominance. We have already won one cup, we are heavy odds on to win the league, having earned our dominance (yes- we could still lose the league but I would advise anyone on betting much on that prospect). The Scottish Cup, if won, will have been hard won, against this background of re-building a younger team and Brendan demanding more bravery and continued high tempo flair-based passing football. He knows many players will not be able to live up to his demands but he has, equally, told us in advance that he will not change. He will not allow comfort zones of safe passing or long ball clearances as routine because players may feel better about avoiding mistakes but they will not improve as players in the future. And using younger players makes sense for a development coach, as they have got more room for improvement and more willingness to learn new ways and have less to unlearn.

Brendan, is trying to leave a legacy that tells us that this is the only way for a faded-giant club in a peripheral league in an impoverished market, to improve. If we develop good players, we are likely to lose them, and we will have to go again. Re-building is constant. We cannot reach these heights just via the transfer market alone in these overheated times. Our Scottish currency does not buy as much as most of our fellow shoppers and we are left shopping in the more unpredictable shallows of the market. We do not have the financial muscle so we have to be financially smarter and we have to do more of our own work.

And while that massive project continues, we, as supporters, can only support, when it comes to team matters. The day that a manager tries to appease the crowd by picking their favourites is the day we start going downhill. Let the manager manage and take the consequences. I am nowhere as near brave as Brendan is on these matters. I have a “Yes Minister” reation to that word “brave” which suggests it may be a foolhardy road. But, I can see the argument and respect it enough to continue to offer my support.

Maybe, that is because I have lived through lesser times as a Celtic supporter (in my case, that was the early 60’s, and most of the time from 1976 to 2000) where we were an irrelevance in European terms. Characters like Old Tim and others also had the 50’s to contend with. I think it made them tough enough to cope with our current position in the distorted Monopolies Market of Modern Football.

I am telling you, politics of football from 2012 apart, these are Fun Times. We really should be smiling.

So strap yourselves in and enjoy the ride.

  19. Talk about micro analysing! We lost, it was a good goal. Do you think Kili fans would be scrutinising every detail with forensic intensity like you lot? No, I don’t. Get a fecking life.

    16 ROADS

Thanks for the double, and as you say,5/2.

That’ll be a double of your choice if you fancy holding me to it in June.

  21. Lessons will have been learned from yesterday. I confidently predict that we will win the league in the first game after the split. Aberdeen, Sevco, Hibs and Hearts will all swap points with each other and have the odd slip to bottom 6 teams. Even if we slip a few times more it’s practically impossible for any other team to chalk up win after win. It is now a very competitive league regardless of ‘quality’.

Whatever we might think of various individuals we also have a number of very experienced and capable coaches/ managers. Clarke and Lennon are the pick of the bunch outside of our own man. Levein May be a tosser but he can organise a team, I wouldn’t discount Coyle just yet. McInnes May blow the big games but his team remain the most consistent outside of Celtic over the course of his tenure and they are, to my mind, still the best of the rest.

From what I see I think the other Scottish clubs have raised their game in regard to fitness, coaching and tactical play in the last few years. That’s a good thing.

  22. The injury list team……….

If you have a quick perusal of the Social Media today or Facebook you will see there’s a section in the support already calling Brendan a tinker man because we lost yesterday:((( It seems to me that there is an almost wilful ignoring of what the manager says and what he is trying to do??? I might be wrong?

Good post and the “lesser times” were more often than not after the Lions..

    HH

  24. Sftb- good post. It’s worth mentioning also that the age of the team is significant and that a lot if the players who started yesterday are yet to play significant numbers of domestic games let alone European ones.

The “forensic” analysis is needed when the fool’s analysis gets traction.

It’s refreshing that there are so many football related posts – it might be paralysis by analysis but long may the footballing topic continue.

I got a text from my pet hun after the game-League Is On!!!!

I pointed out that our dreadful performance this season has given us 2.3 points a game. At that rate over the 38,even a 100% record from now till then isn’t enough.

    And his mouth was shut!!!

I’ve not got a problem with analysing defeats,it will be first on the agenda at Lennoxtown, but one problem I have is why so many players frequently are off the pace at the same time.

That’s really my only worry. Not enough people stepping up to the plate.
