Newco chairman, Dave King, this evening issued a remarkable statement. Not for the first time he referenced Celtic, but on this occasion, he became the first person inside the game to put the Stripping of Titles Rangers won during their EBT and DOS years on the table.
His statement also blankly contradicted an earlier statement he made, when he asserted, “I follow the logic of the argument that if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”
With the tax case lost, and many fair-minded agreeing with his earlier sentiment and calling for titles to be stripped, however, today King said:
“Whether the scheme was in place or not, or whether it survived tax scrutiny or not, made no difference whatsoever to the playing squad of the Club during that period and hence had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”
That’s:
“If we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”
Followed by:
“Had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”
“Competitive advantage.”
“No impact on the performance.”
In 2012 he even issued an apology and suggested “commercial reparation to the other clubs” was in order.
“Reparation” because “if we lose the tax case” we “gained some competitive advantage”.
In five years he moved from saying Rangers gained a competitive advantage because of the illegal EBT use, and commercial reparations to other clubs was due, to denying any wrongdoing whatsoever.
He should also have read the Celtic statement more carefully. King today said Celtic, “have attempted to influence the footballing authorities to alter its historic football honours”.
Celtic’s statement called merely for a review, “We are sure now that the footballing authorities in Scotland will wish to review this matter. Celtic awaits the outcome of their review.”
The altering of football honours issue was not put on the table by our club – you can thank Dave King for that thought provoking notion.

Feeling pretty browned and not just because I am at work today
This week has been one of those weeks that has made me think I ‘ll stick to a vow I made during the 2015/6 season in which I would stop going after the 2017/8 season. Last season was joyous and my promise seemed a bit foolish but now it seems spot on.
I am fed up with everything that surrounds the Rangers unless it is them losing on the pitch. Even this week when they endured the worst result in their various histories has been mired in the kind of intellectual garbage that has so disfigured the sporting scene in this country for too long now. I am fed up with the game being run by weak, ill-informed, self-preserving morons who can , as happened, this week react to a damning verdict for Rangers as was in the highest court in the UK [said Rangers having been similarly damned by the highest court in Scotland in the November of 2015] about Rangers -as in the defunct version- with a statement that is so breathtakingly dismissive of the concerns of those who follow the sport here as to be offensive.
I am fed up with every cretinous outpouring of self serving , dishonest trash that emenates ( possibly sic) from anyone connected with any version of Rangers. And I am fed up with the spinelessness of a media which fails to call these liars and fools for what they are.
Football is still a sport that can enthrall like no other team game on the field but it is a revolting spectacle off it- unlike others here I do not think that the way Rangers’ cheating has been ignored by officialdom is unique to Scotland. Real Madrid woud and probably already have had similar blind eyes being turned as has been the case here. AC Milan should have suffered the same fate as Juventus in 2006 but did not. They won the European Cup in 2007. Football is corrupt to its core and nobody will do anything about it.
I now have to return to work. Have an edifying afternoon

Funny thing is that they (Hearts fans) may hate us but it’s nearly they hate Sevco more.
Maybe Hearts didn’t suffer as much as Aberdeen did and for younger fans, some of it is a long time ago.
