King: if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage

1124

Newco chairman, Dave King, this evening issued a remarkable statement.  Not for the first time he referenced Celtic, but on this occasion, he became the first person inside the game to put the Stripping of Titles Rangers won during their EBT and DOS years on the table.

His statement also blankly contradicted an earlier statement he made, when he asserted, “I follow the logic of the argument that if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”

With the tax case lost, and many fair-minded agreeing with his earlier sentiment and calling for titles to be stripped, however, today King said:

“Whether the scheme was in place or not, or whether it survived tax scrutiny or not, made no difference whatsoever to the playing squad of the Club during that period and hence had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

That’s:

“If we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”
Followed by:

“Had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

“Competitive advantage.”

“No impact on the performance.”

In 2012 he even issued an apology and suggested “commercial reparation to the other clubs” was in order.

“Reparation” because “if we lose the tax case” we “gained some competitive advantage”.

In five years he moved from saying Rangers gained a competitive advantage because of the illegal EBT use, and commercial reparations to other clubs was due, to denying any wrongdoing whatsoever.

He should also have read the Celtic statement more carefully.  King today said Celtic, “have attempted to influence the footballing authorities to alter its historic football honours”.

Celtic’s statement called merely for a review, “We are sure now that the footballing authorities in Scotland will wish to review this matter. Celtic awaits the outcome of their review.”

The altering of football honours issue was not put on the table by our club – you can thank Dave King for that thought provoking notion.

  1. Embdy know what the FM frequency for Radio 4 is? Alan Partridge is on Desert Island Disks at half 10.

I predict representations from Kate Bush, Abba and, of course Wings (“the band that The Beatles could have become… ;-) )

Had a great night at the wedding, watching athletes battering the living daylights out of each other with no problem then hear the distant sound of bigots walking down the street in 21 century Scotland..

  3. Hrvatski JIm – thanks but I now think the tweet I saw about the show might have been from yesterday, ha ha!

  4. Glib and shameless is quoted by BBC Scotland as saying that Rangers won the titles fair and square.

Surely this was a misquote. What he actually said that Rangers had won the titles ‘on the square’.

Celtic don’t have to say anything re King’s idiotic rant…these are just the screams of a drowning fool…

  6. No sign of the Tangos in The Plean this morning, nice and quiet. The flags are out, what the feck does soldiers dying in the first world war have to do with the Orange Order.

  7. Wolves have signed midfielder Ruben Neves from Portuguese club FC Porto for a club record fee.

The 20-year-old had been linked with a £15.8m move to Wolves, whose owners, Fosun, have a close relationship with Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes.

How can Celtic compete with this?

  8. Bada – thanks, aye I’d been toying with the idea of going to the EK v Celtic game today but a few other things have gotten in the way so more likely to be watching the Shamrock Rovers v Celtic game on the telly. A team for domestic football and a team for Europe, what are we like!

We can’t that’s why is important we have some of Brendan’s reputation at the club, to work the English market to our advantage.

Our game is so far behind the English game in terms of money that we can’t even compete with what we would have seen as small English teams before.

Sky money has killed our game stone dead:(

Penalty to All Blacks denied as offside was deemed accidental. Escape for Lions. 1 minute to go.

  13. BT – …..although I’ve just realised that for today’s game I’d have got it on Celtic TV….

I get all that but basically LNS passed a judgement on that basis which resulted in a fine.

My point was that information emerging since his Decision tells us this was not an improper registration issue but deliberate avoidance of proper registration because proper registration risked revealing ebt payments when they were being instigated risking nullifying the benefit RFC sought to gain from their use.

There has to be a new charge and that charge has to show that the way RFC set about signing players over 10 years was more than a registration issue and one of 10 or more years of total dishonesty which using BRTH’s rationale based on UEFA’s view of Giannina simply means proper registration as the registration rules intended did not occur making that the fundamental defect we all believe what took place anyway to be recognised.

The above post and attempt at distraction reads like you haven’t slept since the Supreme Court Judgement against Rangers on Wednesday.

As we both know no false loyalty cuts the ice with London when any Scot tries to rip-off the Crown. Murray and his mates were caught and London is ruthless when it comes to tax.

We also both know who owns the majority of the media in Scotland. Who are BBC Scotland’s parent for example.

Maybe your attempts at distraction might find a more amenable audience on FF or somewhere of that type?

Anyway it’s a lovely day here in Ireland and the Celts are Here!!

  21. Representing the uneducated masses (as I seem to do) I stand by my disgust at Pauls article. The uneducated masses fully understand that we should not respond to King and that we need to ensure its an SPFL decision. But as dumb as we are we also recognise that there does co,e a time to lay your cards out on the table and say what we think.

The dumb crowd have learned that trusting in Scotland and in particular Scottish football isn’t a very clever thing to do. Like we said before if you think you will get a fair review then think again.

At some point Celtic will need to ante up. All these fears will need to fall away. Because when it comes down to it, this will depend on the boards willingness to pursue justice. Scotland and Scottish football won’t.

And auldheid whilst I fully understand your approach I’m afraid it isn’t bringing any dividends. This isn’t a normal situation in a normal country. This is a country corrupt to its core and blinded by a deeply ingrained racism.

Witness a press Corp unquestioning and fully on message. By coincidence.

I think when I retire I am going to write a thesis on all this. The Scottish disease.

Meanwhile Paul and the Celtic board will continue to hide and point at squirrels. The only thing which will bring all this to a head is the Celtic support and its willingness to hold the boards feet to the fire.

But hey. We are just the uneducated masses. What do we know?
