King: if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage

1124

Newco chairman, Dave King, this evening issued a remarkable statement.  Not for the first time he referenced Celtic, but on this occasion, he became the first person inside the game to put the Stripping of Titles Rangers won during their EBT and DOS years on the table.

His statement also blankly contradicted an earlier statement he made, when he asserted, “I follow the logic of the argument that if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”

With the tax case lost, and many fair-minded agreeing with his earlier sentiment and calling for titles to be stripped, however, today King said:

“Whether the scheme was in place or not, or whether it survived tax scrutiny or not, made no difference whatsoever to the playing squad of the Club during that period and hence had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

That’s:

“If we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”
Followed by:

“Had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

“Competitive advantage.”

“No impact on the performance.”

In 2012 he even issued an apology and suggested “commercial reparation to the other clubs” was in order.

“Reparation” because “if we lose the tax case” we “gained some competitive advantage”.

In five years he moved from saying Rangers gained a competitive advantage because of the illegal EBT use, and commercial reparations to other clubs was due, to denying any wrongdoing whatsoever.

He should also have read the Celtic statement more carefully.  King today said Celtic, “have attempted to influence the footballing authorities to alter its historic football honours”.

Celtic’s statement called merely for a review, “We are sure now that the footballing authorities in Scotland will wish to review this matter. Celtic awaits the outcome of their review.”

The altering of football honours issue was not put on the table by our club – you can thank Dave King for that thought provoking notion.

  1. Go tell the Spartim on

The smsm lap up every glibly word as they’re nothing but lapdogs, with no integrity nor intelligence to see how this pans out.

Oh for a strong chairman, ours better earn his corn.

Re: skeletons I’m sure auldheid floated this idea as a rEason for our possible inaction

Our biggest strength and weakness is that the Plc run the ship as they see it, with little risk involved which leads me to believe that they have a plan, to deviate from it just now is what glibby wants.

I posted earlier that all we have to do to kill them off would be to publicly recognise Sevco as a new club and extinguish this idea that they’re our old nemesis. Job done

Its all this politically correct bs that’s the problem.

When i was a kid, we would have just trashed the building mob handed, and then denied all knowledge:)

Not enough of that these days.

Although, i suppose we could make a few calls to Hamburg to see if there are any spare Anarchists looking for work:)

  3. The Green Man,

i am amazed that you are giving any credibility to the statement from the GASL,

the guy is a clown,do you really think the board are in any way bothered by his statement

  4. All Celtic need to do is make a statement without mentioning the fool, something along the lines of:

“Contrary to recent reports Celtic FC did not ask to have any club’s honours rescinded. We feel that the Supreme Court’s ruling has highlighted deficiencies in the governance of the game in Scotland and this needs to be dealt with.

However, if it is discovered that the rules and regulations of the governing body has been breached then we would expect some form of retrospective punishment to be administered for the future good of the game in this country.”

NB, this is not a statement from Celtic FC for any zombies looking in.

  7. The Green Man,

The SC decision is only a couple of days old,

the board have made a statement suggesting the SPFL shoud

have another review,if they dont then we should come out all guns blazing,

the GASL is trying to put some pressure on with his stupid statement,

we should pay no attention to him,he is an irrelevance

  8. So sorry to see St Johnstone go out of European competition last night…..Tommy

missed a trick ,should have told his players they were playing the mighty (Fenian)

  9. THE GREEN MAN SAYS SACK THE BOARD

That’s as may be but to think that Glibby is getting one over on us is just you mate taking it personally, he’s way out of his league with us and he knows it..

  10. I think Gary67 is correct, King is trying to deflect the Huns attention from the European debacle.

If his little game seriously pisses off Desmond then that is a result for us.

King is not too sophisticated if Celtic had something to hide, King would know about it and he wouldn’t be able to resist alluding to it.

The big question is whether Celtic decide to go it alone & bring in the Lawyers.

An issue that should not be forgotten about, is that Courts or Tribunals & Justice are not a given.

No matter how compelling the case is, Courts come out with the strangest of decisions.

Desmond is unlikely to go the Legal route unless he is absolutely certain of winning.

IMO king has come out with his usual bulls**t because the hordes were crying out for a response .

He is merely giving them what they want to keep them onside .

Celtic should not respond to king ,he is irrelevant and has made a rod for the new clubs back .

He and his subsidiary will stand or fall on their demands .

I think Celtic could not have wished for a better scenario than the one that is unfolding over in govan .

The more king has to pander to the lunatic fringe over there the more he will alienate sevco 2012 from other clubs ,sponsors and serious investors .

He has played the siege mentality card and that is what keeps them coming back .I have no doubt that behind the scenes they are actively pushing this as a religious battle .

Here’s the thing though ,the flaw in the scheme if you like .

There are many who fill Ibrokes who were weaned on the success of the cheating years and they have a BIG appetite so they will demand he gives them the menu they were used to . What they will not except is the same gruel they were dished up last season .King has today said that they are overspending as we speak .

There is an old military saying “don’t interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake ” .

I think our board and we can all see the mistakes the enemy are making ,so all our board have to do is keep their eye on the ball and contact the people that matter in our game and the last peepil that matter in all this are the peepil who pretend to be the club that committed the cheating in the first place

  15. My comment about Celtic having something to hide was a thought made out loud borne of frustration at their apparent lack of action or poor communication when they have been provided cause to act or provide feedback.

Its a bit of an internal culture thing from my observation.

ALLY McCOIST has revealed his satisfaction at this week’s announcement that the First Tier Tax Tribunal had found in Rangers’ favour.

The Rangers boss insists he was not surprised by the decision and now hopes the club is allowed to move forward from a painful chapter in its history.

He said: “Obviously from the club’s point of view it was the verdict that we hoped we would get and the over-riding feeling initially is one of satisfaction and pleasure.

“There are still routes for appeal so we’ll have to wait and see what happens there but we feel it was the correct decision and we’re delighted with it.

“I’ve said for a long time that the reason we went in to administration was for non-payment of PAYE and National Insurance last year for a considerable period of time.

“That’s just sort of confirmed that so there is a certain amount of anger and a massive disappointment.

“I always felt confident, without being over confident, that the result would go our way.

“You have to remember that I wasn’t involved with the EBTs at that time in the club’s history but information that was passed to me made me confident that the club had a strong case.”

McCoist is now hopeful that with a verdict finally reached at the end of a long process, the club can leave behind a difficult spell.

He added: “We had a fantastic result with the Big Tax Case this week but rather than look back and point fingers at people and say ‘this should have happened, we want an apology’ I’d rather look forward.

“It’s been a good week for us but we still have a long, long way to go and I would hope that this chapter in the club’s history has been closed.

“I’m not sure that it has yet, but I see the page turning to close it and that would be ideal.”

  20. Auldheid

You should know that thinking out loud and writing it down amounts to the same thing :-)

Still, it would explain a few things, I keep harking back to what Dr John said, ” Those days are gone ” the next thing he was reigned in and not another peep from him, someone, something stopped him from doing and saying what he wanted, he was gunning for the sfa, he told them they were not fit for purpose, how I wish we had a chairman with those kinda balls today.

Hopefully Celtic will buy Glibby and Jabba a microphone and ask them to keep talking ;)

Memo to Dave King from Jabba the Hun

Given our statement today and our concerns about the activities of David Murray during the Ibrox years. The unanimous findings of the Supreme Court in respect of the Rangers Tax Case. The time is right to prepare a submission to the Honours Forfeiture Committee given the now untenable nature of David Murray’s (tainted) Knighthood? …Spill the beans.

“It (RFC) was charged huge sums for advice from other Murray Group entities and it bore the consequences when that advice proved inadequate… the Murray Group tax scheme… As David Murray was personally dealing with transfer expenditure ” Dave King 7/7/2017

“In 1989 he bought Rangers for £6million and was at the helm for most of the period when the team won nine league titles in a row from 1989 to 1997.

He stepped down as chairman in July 2002, but returned to the post in the summer of 2004, launching a rights issue to slash the club’s debt. The 55-year-old entrepreneur received the honour for his services to business.” Daily Express 5/7/2007 on Murray’s Knighthood.

    The Honours System (UK Gov)

    6. Having Honours Taken Away

‘Honours can be taken away from people who have done something to damage the honours system’s reputation. Taking an honour away is called ‘forfeiture’.

    Forfeiture: what happens

The Honours Forfeiture Committee considers the case. Their discussions are confidential.

If the committee recommends an honour is withdrawn, the decision is sent to the Queen by the Prime Minister. The Queen decides if the honour should be forfeited.’

I’m sure the Forfeiture Committee would like to hear about the events at Ibrox prior to the Liquidation of that institution, Rangers Football Club. Especially given the fact that The Queen’s Exchequer was a victim in the deception by the Board.

Let’s hope The Queen does her duty ;)
