Languishing in Paris

710

When watching Real Mardrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich it is easy to be discouraged at the gap between where we are and the quarter finals of the Champions League, but despite the many hundreds of millions spent on both Paris St Germain and Chelsea, the standard of passing and decision making throughout their game last night was abysmal.   Despite their win, PSG were the worst offenders last night, even the Great One was poor.

There is now a real prospect that no English side will make it to the semi-final stage of either European tournament for the first time since 2003, when Liverpool were last to drop out, at the quarter finals stage of the Uefa Cup……..  You’re welcome.

What struck me most watching last night’s game was Sky TV’s Gary Neville pondering how long PSG’s star players would languish in such a poor league.  This is the French league we’re talking about here, not the Scottish Premiership, it’s Paris, not the ‘New East End’!

It’s easy to mock Neville but he asks an interesting question, will players always migrate to a higher-profile league?  If so, there are more clubs than just Celtic in need of structural change.

This will bring a tear to the eye of all the oul yins on here. Like me.

Mojo will be keeping a close eye on this prospect.

Watch Paul McMullan tear the Sevco U 20 defence to shreds as he teases and torments the full back, drawing a yellow then a red card.

Not so much a wee Jimmy. More a James Forrest without the flailing arms. Certainly has pace and directness. As with EVERY winger, needs to deliver a better cross when getting to the bye line. In his defence, and if used to say the same about Agathe, running that fast and crossing a ball is a difficult skill. Most fans will never know how difficult.

    One trick.Byline and cross.

Can he cut inside from 20 metres out and cross with his left?

Can he carry the ball with his left?

As I saw it ,a decent defender would stand well off him and steer him to the corner flag.

In truth, that`s only once I`ve seen the guy and he looks promising.

Seen McMullan a few times, instantly liked him! balance, skill running with ball, good technique, pace and an eye for a goal, whats not to like, wingers is an outdated position not used by the vast majority of the top teams so i wont pigeon hole him that way, quality young player with huge potential wish him all the best

  13. Morning all. Another awful day weather-wise hereabouts. I heard young Judith waxing lyrical about how things were to improve over the weekend for the east coast. No change as far as I can gather about us on the other side of the country. It is way beyond a joke now, this downpour. It has lasted for months, it feels.

  15. murdochbhoy,

While I sympathise with you as regards the treatment of those rags, I can’t see the comparison. The sun and mirror have no readership in Germany, I’m sure. Besides that, you can be sure the “newspapers” in question will file reports from “the front line”. They’ll twist the ban to serve their own purposes. That will go down well with the readership of the sun, particularly, I imagine.

It attached pictures of a Sun story headlined “You Schwein!” and a Mirror story headlined “You Dirty Schwein.” As a result of the puns on the German word for pig,
