Leicester first to move for Edouard

192

You can be sure there is something firm in the story when Sky Sports and The Guardian both report Leicester City have opened talks with Celtic over the future of Odsonne Edouard.  Like a few in the squad, Odsonne has made it clear he wants to move to England when, or before, his current contract expires in June next year.

The player’s form suffered from illness and two periods of self-isolation last season, these are mitigating factors but it’s fair to say some among the support would be happy to take the cash and move our prime talent on, irrespective of the end of his contract looming.

Tapping up is, of course, illegal, but I would be surprised if Leicester had not made their terms to the player clear in a indirect way.  If Odsonne wants to team-up with his former Celtic boss he is likely to get his way.  Once Celtic are through with all their other priorities, they will doubtlessly try to get another club interested.

Interesting summary of AP’s current team. Sounds like we’re going to need a top class goalkeeper and some quick centre halves who don’t mind being in a race from the half way line to the penalty box!

    ________________

His goalies play like sweeper-keepers and are expected to be v comfy w ball at their feet (kinda like Bain is). His current defence didnt look big, but they’re pretty mobile. Funny enough, watched one recent game where the goalie came out to ‘defend’ and got robbed by the CF about 30yards from goal. Is Mjallby a free agent ;)

Tontine@404pm…great read as usual but only thing I would say is that John Keane didn’t really run errands for people…. It was John Keane’s own money that was banked that morning (surely the greatest off the field story in our history…. Phoning his lawyer at 2am… ‘Meet me at George Square at 830am… Bring £1m…We’re going to save Celtic’).

*yes I’m aware of John, just wrote it wrong, Fergus went to him as he knew he would be there unlike some other well known Celtic minded characters.

  4. Laxalt indeed john Keane done what no old rangers never did, put money in to save the club

i seem to have thrown a grenade or hot potato into the blog regarding peter lawells business failing before i hit my bed last night

    in summary

some nice personal abuse, thats ok , received in the early 90’s when out in the car park

PL salary is indeed extremely high compared to turnover

PL failed to invest for a free run at CL in qualifying in ten years, list about 200M plus in income

some fans happy clapping away winning leagues and cups against some dross , i mean the two hearts cup finals, we struggled against rubbish while embarrassed against minnows in Europe again and gain

so bye bye peter don’t let the door hit you on way out

  7. By the way on the film the 3 kings, can you imagine any of those 3 managers putting up with the shoite performances of our players last season.

The animation from the side lines as players get hooked for imposterism (maybe a new word) or conning the fans would be absoloute passion and not the arms folded shake of the shoulders pash we got last season.

  8. I find it strange that Postocoglou is so heavily linked to us (terms agreed and Compensation sorted) and yet two weeks on he’s preparing to take his place on the sideline tonight for a cup game with his current side.

I certainly wouldn’t want a manager on our sideline that had his next job lined up. Perhaps this isn’t the done deal everyone assumes it is.

  9. For context, 100 days from today is 17th September.

By then, we should have a fair idea of what kind of season we’re having. We should know what players we still have on the books, what signings we have been able to secure. The smart money suggests we need around 8

At the moment, its not looking great.

  10. An Dún

Having read your post, I should edit mine to point out that in 100 days time, we should hopefully know who our new manger is! And whether he’s brought his own backroom team along

  11. AN DÚN on 9TH JUNE 2021 7:47 AM

While it’s not common, I don’t think it’s unheard of for a manager to take his final match in charge whilst knowing his next job. Players do it after signing pre-contracts with next club etc.

Put it this way, if it doesn’t happen, it’d better be because we had another manager line up all along – another glitch then a new search would be unthinkable.

    ————

Precisely. Watching it spoke to my passion and love of the cause. That cheered me up a bit. But also made me despair still more about what we’ve just experienced.

Shankly said he’d jail a non trier. We would have had our own wing at Bar-L this season!

At the same time, when people criticise for eg French Eddie for this season, I can’t but think about his personal experience of this last year.

Covid – who knows the legacy

Two of the 3 🇫🇷Musketeers gone. (And He always seemed like the wee brother of the 3)

Entering end of contract territory and probably would have preferred to have left last summer

No atmosphere, plastic pitches, industrial tackles, lone striker, shit coaching.

It’s hardly a recipe for player inspiration.

Hi Jamesgang – feel exactly the same about Eddie. Young man, foreign country coupled with the long list of other factors you’ve mentioned – in particular the departure of other French players and rubbish coaching – was a guarantee for sub-optimal performances.

AN DUN, as I said yesterday at the moment Ange is as much a manager of Celtic FC as Howe was at any time before he upped sticks and headed off. We’ve still got a bit of hand-wringing and mental suffering to go yet methinks before this crapfest is anywhere near complete.

  17. “UNCLE JIMMY on 9TH JUNE 2021 7:49 AM

The smart money suggests we need around 8”

    A genuine query:

Whose `smart money` is that and, if it is `smart`, why is it ` around` 8 ? I would have thought `smart` would be precise.

  18. timmy7_noted on

Barring the centre midfield we need a player for every position and in some cases more than one.

I reckon 2/3 CH’s, 2 FB, 1/2 wide players, at least 2 strikers, one goalie and hopefully a creative lubo type.

So somewhere between 9 and 12 for me with a minimum of 7 first teamers, no squad garbage.

The priorities in order are CHs, goalie, strikers, FBs.

Thankyou in particular to the scouting team ( if we had one) and board.

  19. timmy7_noted on

I posted before I was finished. My actual expectation however is that we’ll get one for each one we sell and won’t replace any of the loan players. We’ll spend about a qtr of what we bring in and will go into Euro qualifying with a team pretty much made up of what we have now minus loans, Eddie, Christie, Rogic and Ajer.

Funnily enough we’ll get easily knocked out.

I’m not sure that changing the monkey will result in any noticeable difference if it’s still the same organ grinder.

It’s not like the monkey was sacked because the organ grinder was dissatisfied with his performance.

So, on that basis, I’m expecting more or less the same as before.

I know he has distanced himself from job before.

Whatever outlook you have – pessimist, realist, pragmatist, optimist – or just pissed – isn’t going to change the outcome. So – no harm in keeping the mood positive while we wait to find out :-))

  26. We were told some time ago that Nolan Partners, a recruiting firm were headhunting a new manager, were they taken off the job, if not were they allowed to compile a list which only comprised of Howe and now Postecoglu, the way this looks if it is Postecoglu then why hang about his old club for a few cup games, this doesnt add up to me and it looks more like Kennedy will be given the job on an iterim basis at least, not that I agree with that, not at all, but forget Celtic are a well run club at Senior board level we look a total shambles who could not organise a piss up in a brewery.
