Lennon a better manager than England appears to believe

542

I know what you’re thinking.  After the media heavyweights told you, on the day Neil Lennon resigned from Celtic, that he was going because he was unhappy with the amount of money he had to spend, pitching up at Bolton Wanderers is a bit curious.  What you were told that day was nonsense, deliberately headlined to undermine Celtic.

Neil had been in the shop window since the Everton job came up in May 2013 and had long decided he wanted a crack at managing in England before the end of last season.

On paper, the Bolton job looks daunting.  The club are bottom of the second tier of English football, while those immediately above them, Blackpool, Fulham, Wigan and Birmingham, like Bolton have recently had Premier League experience.  It’s early enough in the season that survival is a reasonable expectation, but Neil will know little about the squad he takes over, or about their ability to step up.

Taking this job is a huge risk to an accomplished CV but so is spending an extended period on the side-lines as an out-of-work manager.  Whatever the reasons he didn’t land a better job over the summer, Neil is a better manager than the English clubs appear to believe.  He’ll get Bolton organised and picking up points against teams with better players, just as he did regularly in Europe with Celtic.

In other news many of the same media heavyweights referred to above today report Arsenal are preparing a bid for a Celtic player, in January.  After selling us the same story that the same player would be subject to the same bid back in August.

It’s as though they have space to fill on the sports pages and there’re not been a lot of football recently.

I am not sure if you could call any group on CQN as a clique it is only natural in my opinion if people on the forum meet each other for social events and charity gigs it is only natural those Bhoys will get to know each other well. They are likely to interact with each other more than a loner like myself.H.H.

    Luboesque signing?

Not really…..KC has an even better record than Lubo.

Thunder Road- it was good to meet you on Saturday.

KC might have ‘a better record’ than Lubo… and some say Kwistoffer Boyd has a ‘better record’ than Henrik ;/)

  14. If Neil Lennon needed a constant bodyguard at his side should we assume members of his family also had to live their lives in a similar fashion, what a dreadful thought. Do managers of the top clubs in the EPl also need bodyguards? Neil had a young family, not sure how many children he had, but surely this became an issue for his partner and the welfare of his children to be able to live a normal lives.

I can’t see Bolton having much money to spend in the transfer market but Neil knows the English so well after spending a lot of his career down south and I hope he is a success.

Thank you for congratulations. I’m not sure if the final score can still stand? There was a guy who invided the pitch and had a chat with Szczesny (our goalkeeper). The problem is the guy who inided the pitch was not in the protocol. UEFA are in the process of comparing the documents.

I thought about you today. I’m not much on CQN but whenever I lurked I did not see your good self posting. I wished you were not retired, in work, posting more. Today when I saw your posts I thought you probably were back to work.

    Evening folks.

On a slow news may I share a non football story.

Was in Costa today feeding myself full of coffeee and cake as usual when a man lifted one of the shop newspapers and then went to the toilet with it for about 10 minutes. When he returned he put it back in the rack. Thoughts please, Is this unacceptable behaviour?

Thankfully i did not have to swim with the fishes ;)

Regarding KC and Lubo….sometimes we appreciate players more once they no longer play for us and i was just wondering IF we may do that with KC?

Lubo is a legend and was a joy to see, yet Kris has….in the games played/goals scored stats surpassed Lubo…..and by quite a margin.

The Henrik v Boyd thing is a damn good argument in Lubo’s favour though!

  24. Wrt media tales of players leaving, the media has always done this. It’s what they’re good at. When they fear a Celtic player they start the he s leaving stuff. One particular year they had it that all that would be left at CP was the Jock Stein Stand.

Their totally predictable behaviour is for two reasons: wishful thinking, and to try to wind up the Celtic fans. All they do is make it obvious which Celtic players worry them.

    The best to Neil Lennon.

  25. DBBA

That was wee joke, not a claim :-)

On another note. Three or two years back I said there was something positive going in Polish football and I said – go Celtic for Polish players and for guys who played here. Only Brozek and Tonev were brought to Celtic since. Both were not my choices. Today I had in head long list of players who were on Celtic radar but Celtic gave up the interest in them or was too late for those players.

Willie McStay was one that NL moved on after he succeeded Mowbray,it was always my view he would have been well served retaining him as No 2,however that would have made him a threat.

*and Willie was a bigger Celtic mhan than Lenny who had been in England since he was 16….Mogga must have looked on him as a threat as he had Peter Pointer kick him off the bus prior to leaving for hades….mibbees NFL was a ruffiano.

Don’t get me wrong here I loved him as a player and captain especially bossing captain tracky about…even as a coach on the sidelines when he pushed the wee ned back…but I never saw him at manager level and still believe that with a hurting hun and lame duck manager he was our luckiest manager ever.

I didn’t shed a tear when Jock, who game me a brilliant teenage and young adult life, left nor when MON went, especially after “Black Sunday”….often wonder how we would have fared with Guus……similarly with Lenny….his time was up.
