Lennon a better manager than England appears to believe

542

I know what you’re thinking.  After the media heavyweights told you, on the day Neil Lennon resigned from Celtic, that he was going because he was unhappy with the amount of money he had to spend, pitching up at Bolton Wanderers is a bit curious.  What you were told that day was nonsense, deliberately headlined to undermine Celtic.

Neil had been in the shop window since the Everton job came up in May 2013 and had long decided he wanted a crack at managing in England before the end of last season.

On paper, the Bolton job looks daunting.  The club are bottom of the second tier of English football, while those immediately above them, Blackpool, Fulham, Wigan and Birmingham, like Bolton have recently had Premier League experience.  It’s early enough in the season that survival is a reasonable expectation, but Neil will know little about the squad he takes over, or about their ability to step up.

Taking this job is a huge risk to an accomplished CV but so is spending an extended period on the side-lines as an out-of-work manager.  Whatever the reasons he didn’t land a better job over the summer, Neil is a better manager than the English clubs appear to believe.  He’ll get Bolton organised and picking up points against teams with better players, just as he did regularly in Europe with Celtic.

In other news many of the same media heavyweights referred to above today report Arsenal are preparing a bid for a Celtic player, in January.  After selling us the same story that the same player would be subject to the same bid back in August.

It’s as though they have space to fill on the sports pages and there’re not been a lot of football recently.

  1. On the subject of perms. I grew up with naturally very curly hair and grew it quite long and thick in the 70s when I was a bit of a rocker.

Come the late 70s and early 80s it used to drive me mad the number of girls who would tell me how much they liked my perm, usually while I was in a cinema or disco queue and even on the bus. My mates found it hilarious every time they heard my plaintive cry, “It’s not a $@#&£% perm!”

And to think, in the late 60s I had a girlfriend who used to iron my hair to get rid of the curls.

Oh the memories of actually having hair

KC’s fifty three goals in one hundred and six games is an incredible figure for someone not thought of as an out and out striker.

His goal tally would be higher as in his first full season with us, he only scored one goal and that was against a club we will never play again.

Lubo wasn’t a regular starter for us under Martin plus he was older than Kris when he signed for us.

We also had a more potent strike force in Lubo’s time so he may have concentrated more on creating than scoring.

Lubo’s contolling the ball with his bahookie is the most outrageous bit of skill I have ever saw from one of our players.

We should be happy we have been blessed with both Lubo and Kris playing for us.

I was told a story that the day Lubo’s son started at St Aloysuis he was introduced to the class and he received a standing ovation.

  10. Oops

Before I am in serious bother, I know minx very well too, that’s how I met H.T.

Those dutch players don’t look too happy with each other, then again what’s new. Two dutch players in an empty pub could cause a riot.

Starry Plough, very true plus all our best players and managers over the last thirty years have all been linked with going elsewhere by our lovely Celtic loving media.

For the life of me I can not think of any of a club who won trophies in the nineties trying to be flogged by the media unless said club wanted shot of them.

  20. BMCUW , PFayr…
