Lewis Morgan, and the 12 games in 8 weeks marathon

290

There should be a slight embarrassment of riches around Celtic today as one of our loan players, Lewis Morgan, picked up his Championship Player of the Year award.  The 21-year-old left-mid player signed for Celtic in January but remained a St Mirren player, on loan, until the end of the season.

Lewis is two years younger than Jack Hendry, who signed from Dundee this year, but will share a development play with the central defender, and with goalkeeper Scott Bain (26).

With left-footed-inverted-right-wing Patrick Roberts returning to Manchester City this week and one of our other left-footed wide players, Jonny Hayes, out injured since August, there is a clear opening in the squad for Lewis.

The Champions League qualifiers are (hopefully) a marathon eight games in eight weeks, a period that coincides with the start of the Premiership kick off.  During this time the squad will need to reach peak fitness, but remain rested, two conflicting objectives.

Lewis should experience his first competitive action as a Celtic player during this period.  There will be around 12 games in those eight weeks, a lot of tired limbs and a corresponding injury profile.  For you and me, that’s a worry, but Lewis will know it is his chance to shine.

  1. Whilst acknowledging the Flouncer’s right to flounce, I sometimes wonder about the Flouncer’s apparent need to announce their intention to Flounce.

What ever happened to just removing oneself quietly from a scenario you no longer wish to participate in?

We have numerous examples of said practice.

Very unhappy to read the report in the Scotsman concerning Nir Bitton. In a football context it should be Celtic first, everything else second. I like Nir as a player, I’ve said it many times, and he seems like a decent bloke. It’s nothing short of pathetic to impute what’s happening in Israel/Palestine to him.

    ————————–

Absolutely – agree with this 100% – everything I’ve seen and heard of re: Nir indicates nothing other than him being a good guy.

He is not the Prime Minister of Israel, he doesn’t set their policy re: Palestine – numpties blaming him for the actions of his country’s government.

As well blaming the miners for the actions of Thatcher – same logic.

VFR, sorry for my late reply to your post this morning showing Owen Paul singing on top of the pops.

I knew he had at least one hit but could not remember remember the song’s name. He was managed by that annoying half wit DJ , Peter Powell.

I was travelling along Sumertown Road in Govan today , I noticed scaffolding up to the roof at Ibrox at the west end of the Govan Stand. They must be doing some repair work to the stand roof.

Only problem with playing bitton in defence is his often-suspect defensive positional awareness

Next season’s Champions League squad should, IMO, be Saturday’s Cup Final squad minus Paddy plus Odsonne and Lewis Morgan plus whoever Brendan deems fit to sign in the close season.

    I would a quality No 10.

The rest would be available for sale except Hendry, who should be given the year to prove himself at Celtic.

Development squad players to plug SPFL gaps.

I was very impressed with Terence Trent D’Arby’s first LP .

However , I saw him live in 1987 at the Barras and was disappointed. I went expecting him to be more animated, going by his top of the pops appearances and videos , on stage but found him very subdued.

Italian football has more entertainment today, Pepe Reina is facing accusations of having links to the Camorra.

Three Napoli players past and present, Reina, Paolo Cannavaro and Salvatore Aronica have been referred to FIGC’s Federal National Court for maintaining inappropriate relationships with convicted criminal Gabriele Esposito plus his brothers Francesco and Guiseppe. (cf. football-italiadotnet)

He does deserve to be in the reckoning. Only problem with re-numbering a current player is that it kinda ruins it for those who have already bought the shirt, with the name and number.

So typically a new player would get it. Lewis Morgan for instance? Or keep it under wraps for Paddy’s return?

VFR @ 8.27. , maybe the scaffolding was just for show or doing basic repairs.

Maybe my expectations of Terence Trent D’Arby were too high when I saw him live . Musically he was good.

The grief Nir Bitton is receiving is bang out of order. He still has a future with us , e is an excellent passer of the ball, and I hope he and his family are not unsettled by the trolls .

  25. I see the cheapest season ticket for Spurs new ground is just short of £800 – a mate of mine is paying £1200 for a relatively standard seat – he was surprised no cup games included.

Who posted about Terence Trent d’Arby, was it VFR? Cheers for that, we turned the garbage TV off, dug out the old cd and it has led on to getting out the photos from when my kids were wee, always a favourite pastime of mine. The Hardline was the first music my first son danced to…well, wobbled in that toddler way. Ah, sweet, sweet memories. I love this blog.
