Long term more important with Guidetti

415

The most important news concerning John Guidetti is no longer whether Fifa recognise his registration, it’s whether John is keen to remain in Glasgow beyond May next year.

The player is not eligible for the Europa League group stage, and it is not critically important he joins for Premiership football in the first half of the season.  He can join in January for the league run-in, and hopefully the latter part of the Europa League, but as we know, the next major event on Celtic’s horizon is next season’s Champions League qualifiers, which then out-of-contract Guidetti would be a valuable addition for.

Whatever the Fifa outcome, the player will be planning where he wants to play beyond this season and it’s unlikely Scotland will have previously featured heavily in his mind.  Monday was a bit of a shambles for the player but he got to see how Celtic operate.  Hopefully the positive sentiment will convince him this is a platform he can build his career on.

It’s just incredible that Mike Ashley had Charles Green in such a place that he was able to secure naming rights of The Stadium Formerly Referred to as Ibrox for £1.  Whether he exercises this right or not is moot.  The fact that he can, means that Newco Rangers have to accommodate him in the knowledge he is able to call in his marker at any time.

The only curious thing, is why was this particular piece of dirty washing hung out at this time?

  1. Re: queries about why it cost Ashley only £1 to buy the naming rights to AyeBrokes stadium, might I suggest that he simply got market value.

    :-)))

The player was not available until the last day of the window.

Celtic are not to blame for the current situation, indeed as Paul suggests, he has gained a very favourable impression of Celtic.

The Scottish Football authorities have accommodated Celtic on this matter and are not to blame.

They have assisted in the appeal – which is allowed within the rules. So there is discretion to use – unlike in the entirely different Legia situation. There it was forfeit and 3-0.

The player even if appeal is successful is not eligible for Europa League this side of Christmas.

So if appeal is successful he’s here for domestic football until 2015.

If it is unsuccessful we could get him for second half of season as per loan deal and if we are still in Europa League then there is still merit in this.

If we are out of Europa then there seems little point in getting him in for six months only to leave as we prepare for these traumatic Champions League qualifiers.

So basically we need to know – one way or the other – by December if the player wants to sign for Celtic.

Hopefully we are in pole position to get him. Apparently he is very highly regarded.

Ps CQN Magazine out this weekend.

On JG, I wouldn’t call anything about the saga critical but I’d want the responsibility for the failure to conclude the loan deal ascribed to the pertinent individual/organisation.

On naming rights, is Ashley merely waiting, with the intention to rename the ground when it’s refurbished and worth what he paid?

Hope any Celts who haven’t bought tickets yet for Sunday and are able to afford the time and money will rally round our Maestro’s game.

He deserves to be our World Ambassador, if he isn’t that already.

Equally, I hope the Foundation’s Supporters’ Committee will send a message upstairs that a two/three season break from these games is overdue.

Re oil production – just reading back over last article.

Not wishing to overly labour the point but the BP Clair ridge development will at best barely slow the inevitable decline in N.Sea oil production. For every BP clair there are multiple fields in UK waters being decommisioned . As of 2014 an estimated 80+ fields with over 360 wells along with supporting pipelines and structures were scheduled for decommision.

  12. I mostly drank in the Howf, the lunar Seven, or the La Caverna that was downstairs in the bath hotel, I had many a conversations with a lovely old man who drank in there, most of you will know him, Findly Curry, what an amazing character.
