Longmuir and the Newco job

742

Scottish Football League chief executive, David Longmuir, emerged from the shambles that the game’s administrators got themselves into last year with a remarkably solid relationship with the SFL’s member clubs, indeed, he has been singled out for high praise from the Newco-club.

The flow of sentiment reversed after he wrote to member clubs suggesting Celtic and Newco-Rangers enter ‘colt’ clubs in the Third Division.  This bizarre suggestion was justified on the basis that if Celtic and Rangers join another league, while leaving the rest of the leading clubs behind, their colt teams would continue to bring interest and revenue to the game.

Mr Longmuir seems to have missed the fact that in the event any of the above comes to pass, the departure of Celtic and Newco-Rangers would then create an opportunity for colt clubs to be considered.  Their inclusion now is unnecessary, especially when Newco could potentially enter administration next season, lose players, suffer the mandatory 25 point penalty and be relegated into the bottom division with their colt players, who presumably would also suffer administration-related penalties.

Speculation that Mr Longmuir is taking care of current business until he is ready to move to Newco is becoming hard to ignore.  Newco need to get themselves out of the bottom league first, though.  The colts team idea is certain to be rejected, the question will not even reach the SPL or Celtic.  The 12-12-10-10 idea favoured by Newco is looking an increasingly hard sell, with 12-12-18 more likely.  Mr Longmuir better look after the interests of all his member clubs if he wants to hang on long enough to move straight to Newco. If he loses his ability to be a dealmaker I’m not sure what he can offer an aspiring £100m company.

Football is seldom played on a higher plane than we witnessed from the Camp Nou last night.  Barcelona, until recently undisputedly regarded as the best team in the world, were up against it.  With a league win assured their form stuttered and they had to become the first team in Champions League history to overcome a 2-0 first leg defeat.

They delivered, as did their most precocious talent, but there was a hugely important lesson to be learned from the game.

Milan are out of Europe because they made preventable mistakes which Celtic didn’t make, home or away, against Barcelona.  Even at this level, the team which makes fewest preventable mistakes progresses.

Milan and, after Juventus, Celtic, can spend the remainder of the season pondering the value of putting laces through the ball.  Barcelona, of course, are fabulous, but the question remains, can they do it at home against Annan Athletic?  I’m not so sure.

Thanks, amigo. My brother neglected to tell me anything about that, but that just about sums him up, if it’s the one I think it is, which, given the golf context, it must be.

Radio Nacional de Argentina is going live to the Metropolitan cathedral in Buenos Aires. It’s great stuff. History before our ears.

  2. ive got a friend in Argentina,

very proper , family came from Greece, 1920’s i think he told me.

we fell out often when i mentioned Che Guevara Lynch.

he in turn was uber-catholic, in an old style. very not left wing.

his head will be in turmoil tonight.

however we did agree, malvinas argentina,

Sipsini – I never went (stayed in Croftfoot) to St Julies, but my mum loved it there. I got to know probably all the teachers from that time, so I probably knew ones who taught you. Mum’s name is “McG” Remember names like Mr Church & Mackin…….

CRC – Were you put off by that tackle I put in last week?

  5. on a positive, thank goodness i only played football at the boys club levels.

them guilds leagues sound so corrupt (homer refs , discrimintion etc).

rather play in the boys brigage for steadfast application of the rules.

  6. Just in from watching the footie, haven’t read back and just wanna say.

I am sick fed up of all this hun, zombie, sevco thing. Not that I mean “move on” by that. Far from it.

Sick of it cos the facts are blatantly staring everyone in the face yet the slimy sleazeballs still manage to squirm their way through.

I’m pulling no punches now – the reason they are doing and getting away with it is down to the dirty, secretive, scumbag masons. It is more evident to me now than it ever has been. There is no unseen fenian hand – that is a myth. I wish there was. Maybe they could challenge them. They are clearly all in them, murrray, smith, fat swally, longmuir, the lords (ha thats a feckin joke… cos they wear robes they are to be respected…. what an ass the law is) Have you ever been to the temple in london?? the mainstay of the law society?? if not it is steeped, heavily steeped in masonic symbolism!! Is that a coincidence??

No my friends in Celtic – the masonic scum are rife here, brown brogues in tow they protect the brethren…using all available media. We have merely, through new media slowed their march. They don’t like us and I hope one day we conquer. I will never lose the faith. Keep fighting the good battle.

They are secretive scum who truly believe they are better than you or I…. if anyone thinks they are not scummy then why keep secrets and refuse to reveal them, keeping apparent knowledge enclosed… Are we, the proletariat, not worthy?? Well if so that makes you fascist… so either way scum.

Sure you have guessed the right brother, although I hardly needed to be Bergerac

I was recently in the company of a guy we both know as sickman.

Do you remember the Everton sunday league team ?

Sickman confirmed you & your 3 brothers all played in the same side one game.

Happy days. An old QMA team with a few imposters.

    Take care. HH.

  9. So what happens with reconstruction now?

Is there a vote on 12, 12, 18 or is this already vetoed?

Will the SPL just force through 2 leagues?

Will the SFL the SPL & the SFA all merge administration whether the re-org goes ahead or not, the idea still stands whether the leagues stay the same or not?

Will there now be a vote of no confidence in Longmuir?

Who was he representing when he came up with these ideas, was it ran by a SFL committee or was it all his own idea?

Listening to Turnbull Hutton he made it up himself.

Surely Longmuir must be forced out over this, he must be questioned on why this proposal was leaked to the press when the clubs had no chance to stop it at source.

  10. setting free the bears.

Do you mind old mc ginley that ran the guild team, he kept greyhounds.

Think maybe there is a couple of years either way between us, which can be a a massive gap at that age.

  11. Let’s get this one out of the way.

A journalist in Argentina wrote an article once accusing Jorge María Bergoglio of collaboration with the Junta because Jesuits were amongst the disappeared. Bergoglio said he had removed from active ministry Orlando Yorio and Francisco Jalics, who were later capture by the regime. It’s not clear to me why he removed them from active ministry, but he has made it clear that it was before they were taken and that the two things are not directly linked (an indirect link may lie in the work the two Jesuits had been doing in poor communities on the fringes of Buenos Aires).

Later, Bergoglio said that he hadn’t spoken up about this because he felt he was being used in a political game. He insisted he had nothing to hide. He made it clear that he protected priests from the regime in the 1970s as much as he was able. He declared in an official court hearing in 2010 that when he met with senior members of the Junta it was to speak up in support of “the life of priests”.

He said: “I did what I could, at the age I was and with the few contacts I had [with the regime] to intervene for people who had been taken. I moved as much as I could, given the few possibilities open to me and the little weight I could exert.”

Anyway, Catholic CQNers might as well get ready to answer questions about this. Apparently, cardinals in the conclave received emails with links to the original accusations in the course of the last couple of days.

Did you know Benedict XVI was pure mad for the Hitler Youth?

  12. Confirmed: If San Lorenzo had a Green Brigade, Pope Francis I would be in it. He officiated at a Mass to celebrate the centenary of the club. His father played for the club’s basketball team.

    Hi Ghuys, Salve salve;-

May God bless and guide our new Pope. Strangely, it could be said we now have three Popes. First is Emeritus Pope Benedict, Third, or really first Is Pope Francis , a Jesuit but I am given to understand that the head of the Jesuit order is referred to as “The Black Pope”.

Regardless of the aforementioned, my hopes and prayers go with this Pope, with my most fervrant hope being He will have the courage to face up to the problems that confront the Church and that there will no longer be any hiding place for criminals in vestments.

Under Rule 27, you can only search for a ball for 5 minutes not 10 and you cannot go back to the tee to play a provisional ball because if you turn your back on your ball you therefore declare it lost.

So his ball stays warm in my pocket and the match is won ;))

Great site Paul, thanks for all the effort you put into it.

Just wanted to day that I can’t agree with your suggestion that Sevco want 12-12-10-10 as that wouid put them into Division 3 without hope of being fast tracked. I don’t think that is any use to them as they really need to by back in the SPL the season after next or they will very likely be in big financial trouble.

I actually think they want 12-12-18 as it will give Longmuir the excuse to try to fast track them to SPL 2. He has already said that it would be unfair for them not to be promoted if they win Division 3, I may be wrong but if it’s 12-12-18 I can see him saying Sevco have to be rewarded in some way and why not a playoff place to get into SPL 2.

I think that is the only possible way Sevco could be fast tracked and make no mistake about it that is the plan for next season.

I actually think the majority of SFL clubs would prefer 12-12-10-10 and Longmuirs late Colts proposal is to muddy the waters and complicate matters to prevent them voting for this,

As they say, it’s all about opinions :-)
