Magic from Madrid, share scams in 2012

1894

Atletico Madrid, happy for them?  Not an easy one.  I remember listening to the radio commentary the night we lost to them in the European Cup semi-final of 1974.  They, and Rapid Vienna a decade later, represented very unworthy competitors in European competition.

Both teams returned to Celtic Park in recent seasons.  Rapid picked up pretty much where we left them, an odious lot, but Atletico and their fans didn’t seem to bother about the past, they came and left wanting to play football.

As a boy I remember chastising old soldiers who fought the Germans during the war for their persistent aversion to modern Germans and Germany.  “They are a new people, nothing to do with the 30s and 40s”, I said.

It feels a bit ridiculous holding a grudge against Atletico.  Their achievement last night, and this season so far, has been fantastic.  Against the most powerful foes, they might just win the hardest league in the world and the Champions League.  This late in the season, that is a stunning prospect to still be on the table. They should be an inspiration to us all.

I see the media is (responsibly) alerting Celtic shareholders to the threat of a share scam apparently being perpetrated against unsuspecting fans by spivs and criminals.  Where were they in December 2012?

Essentially I’m an a-political person, having studied who really runs our “democracies” in the shadows. The idea of having some Nat, Tory, Labour, Liberal sleaze bag telling me how to live my life is an an anathema to me. In the UK 0.7% of the population are millionaires, 78% of the current Westminster parliament are millionaires- how do you stack that up, in regards to “them” deciding “our” future? In addition, more than half of them have been charged with various counts for breaking the law.

Having said that, I work in the USA, retaining a postal vote. I shall vote yes, for the reason that I’d rather have a politician in Edinburgh deciding on my aging parents’ future, rather than some Westminster, wide-boy spiv who considers anyone outside the M25 a Neanderthal (apologies to Neanderthals everywhere). We all have around 3% Neanderthal DNA in us BTW. Also Scotland voting yes, would really put some one world order trillionaires’ nose out of joint, which I am all for.

Does that answer your question? Happy to debate further.

….Dundee United who play in the former…..

And if Alyss le Fey does indeed know the difference…

Just out of curiosity, was anybody at the Dynamo Kiev home game (1-2 defeat) in 1967/8?

I’ve never heard much about it, but it must have been like a punctured balloon after Lisbon 4 months earlier.

I was there and compared to the game against the same side in early 1966, it all seemed a bit flat.

…my response must’ve disappeared into the ether.

Anyway, as both player’s you mention were playing in Botafogo’s group in the Libertadore’s I only reallky saw them when they played against fogo

Angel Correa (as San Lorenzo are thru, I’ll see a bit more of). 19yr old, attaching midfielder (I think predomininantly left sided) who plays just off the central striker. Wee, nippy but temporamental (any time I’e seen him he’s been booked).

Came to SL thru the youth at Rosario and was signed on a long term Contract (until June 2016) about 18 months to prevent an “unamed foreign club” snapping him up. Wee rated by SL fan’s, who see him as a potential Riquelme.

Junior Sornoza 20yrs. Plays on the right side of a three man strike force at Independente del Valle. Cracking right peg on him and can fair ping a ball (he scored a 30 yard screamer against Botafogo). However, at 5ft 5″ (although stocky) is, arguably, too wee for Celtic? That being said, he is in the current Ecuadorian World Cup squad.

I suppose the question would be, who would you drop from the current team to make way for either?

  21. The latest accounts of Rangers raise serious questions about the role of the SFA.

In their fear of Armageddon did they effectively damage any chance of recovery by allowing one set of spivs with titles to be replaced by another or have they by accident done our game a favour?

Does sport fundamentally depend on the honesty of participants and if both participants and governors are dishonest can it be called sport any longer?

Dishonesty destroys trust and who would pay to watch a club run by folk you no longer trust, policed by an organisation you do not trust either.

Instead of hounding the SFA should we be erecting a statue to them or using the opportunity to introduce proper governance where the integrity of the sport is paramount over commercial considerations?

Yes, nothing on Czech websites then, nothing on them now. I don’t expect we will find anything about Leigh Griffits singing there in the future.

This was a bit of exaggeration on CQN calling the player the racist in my opinion. For me he could be just a silly boy who probably grew up with no perfect role models in his life. Few times in my life read forums of the other teams and know that CQN is above the average standards with it’s respect for people who have different opinions. I know that Celtic community is special and my take on CQN is that it’s special above the special.

As Russians say – Moscow is not Russia. The Poles could say – Cracow is not Poland.

I mean, you can learn a lot from CQN , but it’s not whole Celtic community.

Not know them, but I guess that there are other Celtic forums where people don’t talk like you or me. These people may come on CQN and constate epressis verbis – nolens volens the forum is nihil novi, or it’s for them terra incognita and they prefer to stay where they felt well before.

If you worked as the manager all your life, been to many places in Europe, you must remember there are people who did simple works, had no chance to take as good education as yours.

I mean, I’m back to discussion about good role models in our life.

Good lesson there, Celtic must know that the guy who they want to sign is ready to be the part of this community or he is able to learn very quickly how to be the part of this life.

But.. I’m surprised Griffiths has not said the word of apology to Rudolf Skacel yet. Pity, he used good guys name for wrong culture delinquency.

It has not been widely reported but, as part of his sentence, the SFA have said Jackie must sit in the govan stand. It is SFA diciplinary procedure subclause 16.90.
