  1. I heard he was dead – how many CL group stage games did NL teams play in his 1st two seasons of management?

  2. I heard he was dead on

    weeminger

I’ll give you that. It took Neil a couple of years to do it but he had arguably a better squad when he did get in. He also had to win the league here first.

Ronny Deila has no opposition domestically to take down first.

  3. Painful to watch last night.

Reminded me of Copenhagen away, Rosdenburg away, etc etc.

I think the 4-2-3-1 is a noose around Ronny’s neck. Play two up front domestically and in Europe at home. Keep it flexible when we are away from home or facing a team who line up different.

We didn;t lose last night because Malmo had better players we lost because they wnated it more and played as a unit. Rosenberg was allowed to run about freely kicking people and creating chances and not one player tried to stop him. There is not one player in the Malmo side we could not afford to buy and one of them we even had on our books albeit on loan and didn;t think he was good enough so the PL blamers and board haters need to look at the teams on show last night. You don;t need to spend big money to compete with teams like that you need to show heart, fight and desire and we seemed to lack all of that. For me that is criminal for a Celtic side. Wee Jay could go in that dressing room and show more heart than the team did last night.

Very disappoointing but we move on. Europa League. Some big teams and very good games in that competition. Start rattling teams domestically. John Collins thinks we don;t have a challenge and are miles in front – Prove it. As an esteemed poster used to say on here regularly – win every game 5-0.

Ronny please retire the roar and save it for cup finals and league wins.

  5. RD…“Blame me” … we do, Ronnie, we do.

SB…“I’m ashamed”.. you should be Scott, you should be.

  6. TD67,

For once we agree. Too many just waiting to attack Celtic. I wonder how many of them showed up during the many thin years when we had attendances in the 20,000s.

  7. Got soaked instantly outside.

    Matches my mood. Damp.

Usually exhausted at the end of a celtic match in Europe. Regardless of the result. Strangely, not so last night.

I think it was due to the long period I had to get used to the idea of losing. 30 mins to go……need 2 goals…..even if they get a 3rd. 25 mins…time to step it up…..fire some balls into the box towards their dodgy keeper. 15 mins to go….time to ramp it up big time in search of these these goals that would equate to c£10m each…..5 mins to go,!timd to get frantic………

Any of that? Nope. We meandered towards and out the door without so much as a whimper.

I thought Sutton called it right and fairly during the match – don’t know what was said afterwards cos the telly went straight off!

I can handle us not playing in the CL and recognise EL is our current standard. It’s the multiple fail to secure the £Ms that actually worries me more cos it’s our only real means of securing greater income and trying to minimise the gap between us and the super rich.

Ronny please retire the roar and save it for cup finals and league wins.

YES please to the above……………can we get a campaign going

  9. They’ll now be no significant investment in the team before Tuesday. VVD money will compensate the loss of CL money and we will be treated to a couple of loanees, and possibly one cheap (no more than £1m) buy.

  10. TONYDONNELLY67 on 26TH AUGUST 2015 8:15 AM

Could not agree more. Many of those spitting the dummy about last night will not buy EL tickets. When in fact, now is the time more than ever to buy them and get behind the team and club. Hopefully we draw Liverpool or the likes and it stimulates a bit of interest.

  11. Usually I sleep badly after CL ties because I am too buzzed for sleep.

Last night I slept badly as I was too down to feel like sleeping.

Happy clappers (Board Lackeys) and Mineshafters (Towel chuckers) alike feel the pain of Celtic’s failure.

I wish I could believe half the solutions that are pouring out of this pain but I believe that more of our predicament, and I don’t mean individual results (of course, we COULD have beaten both Maribor and Malmo) is inevitable and less the result of evil planning or gross impotence than people would have us believe.

It’s not a very consoling message to receive- it is the medical equivalent of “There’s a lot of that about”- but I still hold that it has more merit than the alternative view which comes across as “Change something by sacking somebody or everybody because things could not get worse.”

Well, they can and 90% plus of the knee jerk reactions would worsen our lot.

I’m off to work now. And I have to see folks in Larkhall and Lesmahagow so I will see plenty of smiling zombies. Batten down the hatches and work your way through the pain.

You make a huge assumption that his bonus is football related.

  13. Joe Filippis Haircut on

We have to think this through Celtic pay players bigger money than any of the last 3 teams who have knocked them out of the CL Celtic spend more on incoming transfers than any of the last 3 teams who have knocked them out of the CL.Celtic have a much bigger support . So why do we keep being knocked out by smaller clubs ? I see the broken down Villa striker has turned us down I think at this moment in history our manager is a big part of our problem he is learning football at this level as he goes along but it is an expensive exercise.I still think we should give him another 12 months and if he doesnt qualify for the CL assuming we win the league that would be his third attempt he should be replaced.I would also like to see him pack in the Ronny roar as winning in Scotland is in my opinion for Celtic to be expected.H.H.

  14. 50 shades of green on

And after all of that mince last night, I came out to a flat bloody tyre and pouring rain. :-(

Still at least am not a zombie.

So its Sunday league games then, nothing beats going to watch wee shades play on a Sunday morning then either off to Celtic park or feet up on the couch if I cant make the away game. :-)

Always look on the bright side of life.

    Ericidlecsc

P.s Just remembered I promised wee shades if we got Real Madrid I would take him to Spain, phew dodged a bullet.

  15. Last night may have been our last opportunity to reasonably expect to qualify for the foreseeable. The seasons ahead will likely see our standard slip further as financially we are becoming less & less competitive. The value of VVD gave us a unique opportunity this season to speculate to accumulate but at board level we once again failed to show ambition to do so.

Selling Mathews, signing projects & taking punts on SPFL/SFL standard players was never likely to be a winning strategy. John Collins much publicised comments about Celtic not being punished in Scotland as the players here are not sharp enough rings true. Now if this is the accurate opinion of our assistant manager then what are we doing investing in this standard of player?

Why not instead spend the majority of VVD’s future transfer fee upfront on some real quality, to give us the best possible chance of qualification? We wouldn’t have lost out financially and if the worst came to the worst we would be able to enjoy some decent players in the Europa League. Who knows they may have even increased in value helped put more bums on seats & given us the same opportunity to speculate to accumulate next year.

Now we are left with the prospect of selling VVD & buying more SPFL standard dross to compete with better teams than Malmo in the Europa. More embarrassment is likely to follow, less gate money also and so goes our downward curve.

Everyone understands we can’t go out and spend money we don’t have but not spending the money we do have, makes it harder to qualify and the club weaker in the long term. It’s important for any business to invest when in a position of strength or it risks stagnation or even worse regression. I think it’s obvious to which direction we are heading in.

Despite our lack of ambition off the field, last night huge mistakes were made on it & even before a ball was kicked. Many on here liked the line-up, but not playing experienced defenders who have played in world cups & at champions league level was a huge mistake. Janko effectively made his debut in our biggest game of the season & Mulgrew who has played limited minutes was unlikely to be fully match sharp. We lost out both offensively and defensively making these two changes & this obviously didn’t help us with zonal marking either. Not bringing on Izzy at any stage was another huge mistake, as we desperately needed to get at their weak right back.

Ronny is a great guy and I really like his style of play but he was out managed at this level as he was last season too. Not sure what the answer is going forward, as if as likely we are going to continue to recruit SPFL standard players then we’ll probably need David Blaine to get us through these qualifiers in the future.

  16. Well said Tony D some hysterical reaction from the huns who lurk on here came out of there closet in there droves big style last night.Funny thing is the only way they will see Europe is in travel brochures or the Thomas Cook website. We are hated enough in this country I dont see why real Celtic fans should add to the medias gloating & slagging of our Club.Last night was a result they had dreamed for Hail Hail

  17. Paddy Gallagher on

A total lack of passion, damp squid/squad effort! It wasn’t the fault of PL or the kit man. No hunger from the trusted selection that failed to deliver. Scott Brown was very subdued and this seemed to transfer onto the shoulders of the less experienced players. Poor refereeing at the disallowed goal but in all honesty I thought we had enough in our team to go there and win – so no excuses, just a sore reality check. I don’t know if RD is right in his ‘blame me’ stance. A lot of well payed professional footballers didn’t rise to the challenge and let the club down. Time for them to reflect on their mediocre attempt in stepping up when asked rather than the usual scatter gun of blame.

  18. Went to bed last night hurting.

Woke up this morning still hurting and went to work.

The most important thing to me though is that I am still a TIM and always will be.

We dont care what the animals say,

What the hell do we care

Cos we only know that there’s gonna be a show

AND THE GLASGOW CELTIC WILL BE THERE.

    HH and KTF.

  19. Sore one last night, at 65 minutes I was surprised we didn’t try something radical or new. At 70 minutes perplexed, and at 75 downright angry.

As a benchmark however Deila is ahead of Lennon’s curve and the Utrecht nightmare. You’d expect that though, he’s not quite the rookie Neil was.

However for perspective. imho, the improvement is more marked with Ronny (and I am a Neil Lennon fan). We lost one of 6 cup ties and are out. The budget told against Stjarnan and Qarabag. It told against everyone in Scotland last year, we won the league by 17 points. We also lost to ICT. That’s the horror/beauty of the cup, not budget. 4 minutes added time last week instead of this it would’ve been 3-1. Bitton’s goal counts and we’re on a different trajectory. Griffiths lobs the keeper at 0-0 and we’re through.

Malmo are the Swedish champions, they have recent Champions League experience. It’s sore, but who do we think we are? We are a huge club because of the support but we’re hamstrung on a bigger level. We shoot fish in a barrel in the league every week and despite winning our league have 3 qualifiers to play while the English, Spanish, Germans and Italians hoover up the cash, everyone else’s talent, and the gap widens. Malmo or Celtic, Sporting or CSKA, Maccabi or Basel. All in the balance to play in the Champions League where the Champions may well be outnumbered by cash rich also rans.

However this isn’t just acceptance of our lot. Small margins are there to be gained to make a difference. Tactics, a player or two, experience. We have 4 trophies to go for and I’ve never been to Switzerland. A good run in the Europa and more nights like Inter last year will bring these guys on for another crack next year with a better still manager.

And if we need any more perspective then remember we were beaten by Maribor and Malmo and moved on to the Europa league. We weren’t beaten by Maribor and Malmo having cheated, overspent and moved on to liquidation.

    A like the Ronny roar.

Never seen anyone skulking out the ground when its done.

Think its good when he goes to the fans that follow Celtic away from home.

Just curious here but do the guys who dislike it travel to away games, and where you affronted when Henrik stuck his tongue out?

  22. Morning Timland from a very warm hun free mountain valley.

Still we have those who are defending the suits.

Worse than huns imo, and even worse, they think they have the intelligence, dearie me.

It was the suits who appointed our coaching staff, the suits who have presided over successive CL failures, the same suits who waste millions on projects, the same suits who tell us we don’t need CL footy, the same suits who will sell our better players to make up for no CL footy.

I know fine well that a football club is not the same as any other business, but we are a business first and foremost, being a football club is secondary to our suits.

I have never advocated spending what we don’t have, never will, but I have been banging on about spending the money wisely, something our suits do not do, we have been knocked out of the CL and the uefa by teams who spend what significantly less money they have wisely.

And yet the board arse lickers want to get rid of the project coach, and do what, install another rookie coach.

I wonder how that will work out then.

    We are a football club.

Run it like a football club.

I think we Celtic supporters just feel genuinely let down we build ourselves up for Europe but in the main we get let down. Those coming on here telling us of there undying support for Celtic I fully understand. However, the supporters who are saying change needs to take place only have Celtic in there hearts and dont want to see this repeated European failure continue. In Europe we are now a small club one who I am sure most teams would be happy to draw considering our recent results. At one time it wasnt like this but that was before Sky and BT money came along but one thing I will say for certain no Celtic team should go out of Europe with a whimper but we continue to do just that had our team played like lions last night and got beaten we would have been unhappy but proud of our team but today we can take no pride in the way we played last night.H.H.

Wasn’t just one bad game, it was the most important of Deilas career and

  29. Disappointed, like everyone else.

Mostly at the level of intensity on display from Celtic. Questions about our ‘desire’.

We simply shouldn’t be outfought by a team of Malmo’s calibre.

    How do we address that?

Our supposed aerial superiority (or perhaps just the painful limitations of zonal marking) was also exposed as a sham.

Although it’s hard to get a true picture from TV coverage, I also didn’t recognise the shape of our play: that isn’t how we’ve been playing most of our games: huge spaces between players; the player on the ball often exposed, 20 or more yards from his nearest team mate.

Tactically, too, I was concerned at the selection of a back four which had never played together before: Boyata’s still relatively new and inexperienced (and prone to the odd howler), yet as well as that we also played full backs unused to playing in that back line, and who – having hardly played a whole game this season – could have little rapport with their corresponding midfielder.

And, of course, we now have lots of Thursday night games and Sunday lunchtime kick-offs to look forward to …

  32. Greg , hope your names not John, Celtics record over the last year has been very good , one or two games excepted. I wonder if Aberdeen fans who pay much the same as you, assuming you go to Celtic park, feel bled when they win he haw and get pumped in the first round. Maybe their equivalents of towel chuckers do but the rest will continue to support their team. Nothing fantasy about that from real supporters like TD67. The fantasists are those who think we can relive 1967 forever. In the 90’s we hardly ever got out if the first round of the diddy euro cups. Many who supported Celtic through those days still do, unconditionally, couple of bad days an all. Me I am now looking for Celtic to regroup get a run in the euro league , win some cups, grow talent. Call that fantasy if you want. Some real ones over in the deluded south side of the City.
