You are a loathsome and bitter twisted individual.

Tonight you reached an all time low.

Even your friends in Govan would be embarrassed.

There will be no decent forays into Europe for Celtic in the foreseeable future or until such times as our Hun loving Irish mafioso custodians are purged. Again.

    macjay1,

Never saw the game last night, just listened to the game on CTV during the middle of the night, very disappointing. The club seem to have no firm direction at present and probably need a severe shake-up from the top down. Our SPL performances against what are currently the bottom group of teams have been pretty lacklustre so far, a serious review of where we are and where we are going is required immediately. There is no spark in the team, no consistent goal scorer and no player commanding either the left or right back position. Much as I have praised Charlie Mulgrew in the past, his time is gone. Anyone watching his performance at the weekend would surely wonder how he started last night. Losing Virgil will also only be bad if we fail to bring in someone who is capable in that position in, the big guy is not nearly as good as the hype suggests.

Major surgery required at our club, a bit of heart would be a start.

  9. .

Ronny Correctly has Stated Celtic were ‘Scared’..

So was l when l seen the Back Four..

And so were the Players playing Directly in Front of them..

3 Players who were Complete Strangers to Each other who Probably have a Combined total of 25-30 Games in the Last 2 Years..Playing together in the Biggest game of the Season..and they are Playing with a Guy who could be Sold Today..

Then Ronny goes and Asks them to Zonal Mark at Set Pieces after Loosing the 2 Goals this way Last week..

I Said this Team/Defense needed to Play more together last weekend Not be Given the Day off last Saturday..

Note: Malmo played there Starting 11 at weekend and Lost..

The Penalty Not the Goal for Celtic was overturned for a Foul on Malmo Goalie by Griffiths IMO..This was about a Minute after Berget was warned for the same thing on Gordon..this was before Hand ball..

Malmo had NOT Lost a Single Goal at Home in NINE Champions League Games..

Basically Celtic were the Better Team for about 25 Minutes in the 2 Legs..

We Lost 4 Goals to Corners/Set Pieces..and had Massive Height advantage..

    As the Old saying Goes..

    Do the Math..

Look forward to the Europa League Draw..

And l wish Virgil all the Best at Southampton..He was Probably the Most Professional out field Player we had in all the Champions League Playoffs..

    Its Hard but l will..

    Keep the Faith..

    Summa

Ps..l have been asking for Jo Hansen to be Dropped for a While as He seems to Believe his own Hype but Who replaces him..?

  10. Wow.

So many shots at anyone sticking their heads above the parapet from any perspective it seems..and here’s me thinking that the spleen of the mob would surely be vented out by now…

Then I read this in the CQN magazine..

“SHATTERED Celtic boss Ronny Deila saw the club flop big-style in Malmo and said: “Blame me.

The Norwegian accepted the responsibility for the Hoops’ “scared” and “stressed” display in the 2-0 defeat against the Swedish champions who now go through to elite stages on a 4-3 aggregate.

Following two routine corner-kicks, Malmo captain Markus Rosenberg and substitute Felipe Carvalho struck for the home side while Nir Bitton had a legitimate goal disallowed just before the break.

Deila was unhappy with his side’s abysmal performance, though, and said they didn’t play like a unit when it mattered the most.

He said: “We performed not even close to what we can do.

“We have played well in many, many games this season, but we looked scared and uncomfortable on the ball and very stressed and that’s my responsibility.

“So, I have to go through what happened and learn from this. That’s so important.

“We have to get better, that’s the main thing. Now we were close but when you have a performance like this we don’t deserve to get in there.

“These are big games for Celtic. Everybody wants to get through. Everybody wants to play well. but we didn’t play as a team.

“You learn through experiences, but this experience was very hard. The opportunity was there, but in the end we didn’t deserve it and we are very disappointed.

“If the performance had been fantastic and we lost then you can deal with it, but it was a disappointing performance and that is even tougher.”

Deila has now failed at the last three hurdles to get Celtic into the Champions League group stages after last season’s double disaster against Legia Warsaw and Maribor. Now Malmo have been added to that list of shame.

Even worse is the fact that not one of the teams comes close to the category of being rated top class in Europe.”

Is there any chance this was copied and pasted from somewhere?

A top class side in Europe – what exactly is that?

You mean a side that goes automatically into the group stages?

You mean a team that can allow their players a long summer break and an easy pre season before playing a competitive game in mid August. Teams that don’t have 6500 miles of air travel to play two qualifying games.

You mean a side from one of the lottery winning European leagues where the mega bucks money is paud in 6 figure salaries to players, and is syphoned off for agents, middlemen, and squandered on 20 million pound players who are immediately put out on loan for a year?

What a terrible comment to make frankly – after spending the whole of the article up to that point by bleeding dry Ronny Deila’s post match integrity. “We were poor, deserved to lose and it is my fault.” he said.

Ronny would have smiled and accepted some praise if we had gone through and so he did not hide when things went wrong. He knows that the players fell short of their best performance, as do the players themselves.

Ronny will also know that players don’t become duds overnight when they sign for Celtic, nor do they become stars overnight when they leave Celtic: Jo Inga Berget, who was like a man possessed over the two legs and showed more energy and fitness than half of the Celtic team tonight. His two goals were the key element.

Ronny will also know that his system may be fine, but some players are either not good enough for it or else they get sloppy using it. Despite my pretty calm demeanour on here after the match tonight – I shouted at my PC more tonight than I have done in 20 years.

The zonal defence system is either poorly understood or poorly implemented. There were 8 Celtic players in the 6 yd box for their first goal tonight while they had 3 until Rosenberg ran from beyond the penalty spot to get higher than anyone else. We had two players at the corner of the 6yd box and one on the post and yet… VVD went ballistic with his colleagues because he was sticking to his job and zonally marking his part and in the process man marking another Malmo player. He came off him when he saw that Rosenberg was unmarked and making a good run.

The exact same thing happened at the second goal, a run from deep into our six yd box from Carvalho and an unopposed header that Dedryck stumbled into the net. If he had missed that, there were two Malmo players behind him waiting to pounce. Once again we had 7 Celtic players in the six yd box and the cross beats Brown and Mulgrew as the front two men zonally marking our near post.

It would be unfair just to say the system broke down at the goals, but it broke down in all areas of the pitch. Our wide players were great going forward but ineffective in tracking back. Our diamond midfield (shape I meant not calibre) often looked good around the middle third but the nearer we got to their goal the less effective they became.

Great players playing in a poor system or a system that they do not understand will look average. Good players doing so will look poor. Good players also having an off night playing in such a system will become a liability. Our players should know where they in those categories tonight.

All we ask is a leader who has brains, integrity, courage and passion. Ronny has these qualities in spades: whether he is the right man for Celtic is a matter of opinion. I think he is. All Celtic managers, Stein, O’Neil, Strachan, Lennon …have all had days and nights like this. Our history is littered with nights like this…those nearly there games when the down hurts even more..

VVD did not act like a man who was playing his last game for Celtic, but the mood upstairs may have changed on balancing the books this season when the bean counters get the Europa League winnings total.

The full scoop on Eric Riley’s retirement being announced at almost 4.00pm on the day of such a huge match for the club will be interesting. Almost like someone was trying to do a Jo Moore and get the news out when we were all distracted looking somewhere else.

Next February we’ll have a stonkingly full CP playing Lazio and we’ll get our mojo back by then.

  11. It’s pretty simple.

The Malmo manager got much more out of his team than the Celtic manager.

    Why?

The Malmo manager understood the tactical and strategic elements much more than the Celtic Manager.

    Meaning?

The Malmo manager evaluated much better.

He understood what was going on much better.

We were and are, in anything other than the SPL, pure and utter $%&#!

Some say that this is a good time to be a Celtic supporter.

Only Celtic supporters can make this club what it should be but, they can’t do that if they are on the outside.

I read on here once that, the only way to get the Celtic hierarchies attention was to, with hold the season book money and let it be known to the hierarchy that, the only way for the season book funds to be released was in exchange for their shares ie: transfer the power of the club to the fans and, dismantle the PLC set up as this seems to only benefit the high earners at the club which flies in the face of the very nature of Celtic FC’s founding father’s aims for the club.

Radical change – much needed radical change, will not be possible till next summer, maybe better to keep the powder dry till then.

    Think about the future CQNer’s.

  18. Last night was a technical (i.e. fitba) failure. The board, Peter Lawwall, Dermo et al have provided a stable and sustainable budget for the football manager for a number of years. We may not be delighted with the sums available but this is our reality operating in the league that we do.

The failure last night was on the pitch – mentally weak and short of that extra effort when it was needed. Tactically out thought etc etc…. A poorly prepared team with a massive financial advantage was defeated by a well prepared team on a small budget. This is happening too often and suggests that something is wrong with football management side.

Another real concern is the money wasted on poor acquisitions. Forster, VVD, Vic etc mask the generally poor record of Rasmussen, Scepovic, Boerrigter, Miku, Lassad and so on.

Major overhaul time. The strategy isn’t working any more and PL must step up and change how things are done on the football side – or step aside and let someone else lead the club’s strategy. Two years out of the CL is a major hit – a third year may take a long time to recover from.

Unless RD and JC produce something worthwhile in the EL they shouldn’t get another crack at the CL. They too have to deliver.

  19. Good night and take solace in the thought that most of us will still be Tims in the morning.

And we will still have European ties until Christmas.

We could conceivably improve our European coefficient.

  20. GG – we have to do both because the good assets will always want to move on to bigger leagues (and wages) anyway. The failure to qualify gives us a financial and a football problem in acquiring new players – this means also that the dire record in the transfer market is just not on any more.

  21. So the swedes no tumshies after all. We join the champions of Austria and Switzerland in the lower euro leagues along with your liverpools and Spurs level. Where we are still at same level as with MON . Puts WGS success into perspective eh Sydney. Very disappointed today was getting excited about the thought of playing with the creme. A long season ahead and chances of glory , just not CL. C’mon the hoops. Glasgow is still green and white.

  26. I am 41 years old.

I reckon I have seen about 20 Euro away performances identical to last night. Performances characterised by mental weakness, tactical naivity, comic-cut defending, and lack of fight.

These have occurred under MON, WGS, NFL, and now Ronny. They have happened when Henke, Sutton, Lubo, and Naka were in the team… Anderlecht, Basel, Benfica, Utrecht, Legia…

Other teams lose European away games. We seem to curl up into the foetal position and die.

    Why?

  27. ....PFayr supports WeeOscar on

In days not so distant we lost away in Europe to decent teams …we’ve always lost away in Europe since I can remember ……I remember the celebrations when we beat Ajax away …I remember being in competition after Christmas in the Seville season …what a treat that was

However …recently I remember some appalling European performances where we have put in a gutless , heartless embarrassing performance …Lenny early European attempts were awful …last night was another …Legia was another ….Maribor was another

Last year I thought Deila was wrong for us ….he won the league and the LC. …great….we’ve virtually no domestic challenge …he’s not good enough

Our success last year was predicated upon an excellent CB partnership …when VVD goes we’ll the best part if our team will have been broken up …..Boyata isn’t in the same class as either VVD or JD…

We sold Matthews …replaced him with a project …Lustig gets injured …no experienced decent cover at RB…we let Fisher out on loan yesterday ..why??

We have one striker LG… Ciftci doesn’t approach good enough …he’s been appalling in his performances thus far ….knowing he was going to be banned ..why did we buy him when we did

We are weaker now than last year …our attempts at buying cheap selling big will flounder after this transfer window …there isn’t a player worth buying left in our squad

    What then ??? More downsizing

The CFC squad costs too much for the standard of performance

Lawwell has wheeled and dealed us from a team who beat Barca at home to this rubbish we see now …he has been paid very handsomely for it ….he doesn’t deserve it …the business maybe in rude health …the product is a disgrace

Add the gutless approach to the SFA and MIB cheating

I’m quite depressed about the state we are in at present …

  28. Lots of pretty poor stuff on this blog tonight. Yes, we’re all disappointed, but we need analysis not dozens of posters telling us how betrayed they feel.

Ronny is a good coach. Last night was a bad performance. We have good players, but are too reliant on weak ones in key positions.

The strategy of only buying young is not working. A couple of experienced heads might have helped last night (though our worst performers were Brown and Mulgrew, two of our most experienced players…).

The EL will be tough, but as a club we need to be competing regularly in Europe. If not in the CL, then in the second competition.

We dust ourselves down, we go on.

It is a phenomenon which has stretched through my lifetime and spans the Stien era until the present.

Is it a Celtic character flaw or more likely a weakness brought on by our environment?

Lots of crazy stuff on last night but lots of serious calls for change.

I support Ronnies ideas and vision but I would agree that the nature of the performances and results of the team through the campaign should be crucial to his retention.
