Some very good performances – particularly pleased for Craig G – had him marked down (on the blog) as a potential replacement pre-FF £2M actual signing by Lenny.
This looks a VG deal – now all we need to do is add a few pieces to the jigsaw (Creative MF, no.9 and LB cover).
90 minutes next Tuesday will define our season!

Feel chuffed for Ronny and his ream
That is what I call improvement.
As mature, thoughtful and measured away performance as I can remember for a long time.
Big performances from a number of players I have been critical off in the past
Mulgrew, played to his strengths (and limitations)
Kayal’s controlled energy was pivotal to our shape and discipline
Stokes put in a shift, made unselfish runs and managed to cause their defence some issues
All of the above are hopefully signs of Ronny’s coaching input.
No real negatives tonight, Johansen grew into the shirt, Lustig was superb and we have another top goalkeeper, forget the profit I am happy with Gordon as a signing in his own right.
Looking forward to a well planned family holiday in Scotland next week and the buoys first trip of the season to Paradise.

after the pelters (and rightly so) he took for the Legia debacle, I thought Mulgrew had an excellent game tonight. Kept possession moving from deep and was able to pick out some great passes too but am sure RD would have given him exact instructions on what he wanted and Mulgrew can be well pleased that he carried them out to the letter.
Kayal, Scarlett and Lustig all played very well and Stokes for the majority of his time worked hard and typified that when Berget got one in the face and Stokes chased back into cover him.
Craig Gordon 8 Fantastic reach, makes the goal look small and commands his area.
Lustig 7 Really Professional, switched sides with ease
Denayer 7 A few scares but quick and strong, confident to go up against Tavares a real handful
VVD 7.5 Just a touch better than Denayer, nearly scored with a guided missile. A bit vulnerable to through balls.
Izzy 6.5 Played OK but didn’t get past his fullback later on. Looked a bit vulnerable sometimes. Odd mistake.
Mulgrew 8 Really Solid. Shielded, distributed and made no mistakes.
Kayal 7 Surprising defence splitting passes. Where is the real Kayal and what have they done with him?
Johansen 7.5 What a fit guy. He must be the managers blueprint. Set up the goal with his chip, Unlucky bobble when he was through.
Mcgregor 8.5 If you score 4 in 7 it can’t be luck. Very fit, skilful, pretty quick, got past his full-back. Could be a really really important Celtic player for years.
Bergets 7 Pretty good. Some nice touches. Decent strength. Tired later
Stokes 7.5 Tough tough shift, had a chance. A good Euro performance.
subs
Griffiths 5 Didn’t work as hard as Stokes though he was fresh. A bit lightweight.
Ambrose 5 Did fine then the usual daft mistake that he at least got back to concede a corner. hard to trust.
Biton 6 No time did nothing wrong. was OK.
Decent away euro performance.

Pleased for Ronny and Johnny ( think his influence on tactics recently might be understated)

The first half was weird. Can’t believe Maribor’s reticence to put pressure any pressure on Charlie and the other defenders when we had the ball. Celtic’s defenders should have done a Bertie Auld and sat on the ball.

Hopefully Ronny is smart enough to figure out a system that puts our most dangerous players into areas where they can have most impact – to me that is Commons in around the edge of the box and McGregor wide on the rights and in the area.

Well done all round tonight lads :)
HT, Stokes put in a great shift, no doubt.
Denayer, great CL debut.
But MotM, Kayal, buy a stretch for me.
Very good performance and result.
Nice to hear CG disappointed we didn’t win, good.
Like most on here I thought Kayal had a great game. I hope he continues to improve at this level.
Great performances from Gordon, wee Callum and WD.
Sadly Izzy shows signs of going backwards. He has no speed and lacks the ability to tackle.
But it will be another truly European night at CP next Tuesday. Bring on the GB.
Like most on here… Kayal was outstanding, strolled it tonight. Like the kayal of old, is he back??
I think with commons back in the team and efe as far away as possible
