Callum McGregor (a midfielder) has scored a goal in three of his first four Euorpean games.

He has now scored as many European goals as “goal poacher” Kris Boyd has in his entire career.

That’s something you won’t read in tomorrows Evening Times

I’ve got an idea that Kris’s omission stymied Maribor’s tactics. Think they were expecting to sit deep and pick the ball off him, then launch counters.

Still seems shocking considering commons is our star man. Happy with the 1-1 tonight but can’t help but think with commons playing tonight we might’ve sneaked a win.

    ——————

I thought it was a good decision to drop Commons before the game but looking how Maribor played I think you could’ve played Commons instead of Stokes and he’d have been dangerous.

There was no pace to Maribor, so Commons wouldnt have been chasing shadows.

  4. 1) a decent performance

    2) our caution totally understandable after Warsaw

    3) misfortune prevented a 3-1 victory

    4) hello Beram, nice to see you, where HAVE you been

    5) Virgil you’re a very fine player but its a team of defenders

    6) Craig, nice to see you,you really deserve a 4 leaf clover

    7) Stefan…I think you get it

    8) Callum, thank your lucky stars, RD knows a real player

    9) PL…a striker and a left back please, pretty please

    10) absolute concentration by every player next week

  5. Commons Should Never Play agin a C.L. Team.

  6. We did well tonight and Ronny showed he has the flexibility to make it as a top coach. A little bit shaky and disjointed at times but comfortable for the most part and could have easily won it.

Johansen unlucky to clear off the line and I thought it was a penalty at the end. It’s when players stay on their feet and get knocked off their stride like that that makes players dive or go down easy in the first place. He’s clearly knocked off his stride meaning he can’t get a shot off, a definite penalty for me.

McGregor definitely has it! Only thing I’d say is work to add a little bit extra pace and get closer to his man when the long ball comes over.

Kayal was very composed today and alongside McGregor gets my MOM. VVD with a mention, Gordon for some fine saves and Stokes for thankless effort.

We should beat this team in Glasgow but we will need to be careful of the counter attack.

  7. Think back two weeks to Murrayfied to where we are tonight :))))

The roller coaster that is Celtic is going along nicely there will be many more ups & downs but tonight this Bhoy is well happy at how we are progressing.

Delighted for Ronny & his troops special mention to young Callum ,Berham and Anthony Stokes.

Next tues could be a bit special AGAIN,Hate the thought I will miss it but hey-ho.

  8. No a criticism, but I thought young mcgregor and lustig gave the Maribor winger waaayyy

    Toooooo much room.

  9. Never seen the first 60 minutes of Legia away as I was on a flight. I was at muryfield thought Celtic were awful. Are Legia that much better than Maribor or were we rank?

  10. West End of East End on

I disagree about taking the corner at the end, if they had broke away and scored the same people would have been on here screaming why didn’t we take a short one and waste time, correct decision IMHO….

  11. seanoc- good one about KC – I never thought I’d say it but he wasn’t missed today. I think RD will develop different teams for different jobs. I can definitely see him on at CP against Maribor.

  12. Pogmathonyahun aka Laird of the Smiles on

Mad dash back to the ole hacienda before the local bar closes, 1st alcoholic drink of the day, cheers everybody. Think I’ll squeeze a couple in before I turn into a pumpkin.

We should have been out of sight in that game and had at least one penalty. MOTM for me was Kayal, I thought he was immense tonight.

  13. Also, Izaguirre had a stinker but he was afforded absolutely no space down the left and little options inside, Maribor had that area of the park squeezed as tight as can be.

  14. Doc

Now let’s not be disrespectful La Gran Muralla, Craig has had a good start, and is a fine keeper, but so was Fraser.

    ————-

FF was the best keeper we’ve had in 30-40 more years, loads coming out of the woodwork now to belittle him. Strange.

  15. Jobo Baldie,

I agree and I suspect the manager will too. He knows the game. Imo, we will see Bitton and Commons running things. That’s for a start. Hopefully, young Henderson gets game time too. It’s great to be in a position where we can chop and change and not feel anxious.

I hope the wide open spaces of Celtic Park will give us the room to destroy them next week.

  16. McCann must have a spew bucket beside him when he’s on sky commenting on a Tims game, Ffs he was chalk white after the game tonight, honest ti god, I was pishing myself laughing at his baw bag coupon.

  17. Uefa stats came up after the game, Stefan covered more ground than anyone on the park.

Fair shift by the wee man covering pooping up all over the park.

Berget back helping in left back position mirrored by McGregor doing the same on the right. Shows a team that works for each other.

Listen to the Manager and coaches and work hard and you’ll play.

  18. Just Another Tim on

Great result! I don’t want to be greedy but we should have won that, quite easily in the end.

Kayal looks back to his best. That is the best I have seen him play since elbows nearly wrecked his career. was really good to see him play with confidence.

I could go on, I won’t though, we are nearly there, where we belong!

    HH

  19. Right, so my Stokes-crap-goal tactic didn’t work (now known as stokescrapgate) but despite the missed chances he put in a fair bit of hard work. More than can be said of Mr Griffiths. New striker please.

  20. The_Huddle, I wasn’t having a go, but FF did great things for us.

He should be remembered for it.

    CG does look great.

Sometimes we forget heroes too easily.

  21. For me the thing that I screamed at most tonight was izzy. He is off his game now. Was poor both going fwd and at the back the spaces between him and Virgil were scary. Actually the space between RB and RCB were similar but better covered.

Over all good performance and we should have edged it

    Mcgregor was very good

Still not quite as cohesive as I would like however this WAS away in Europe to a good technical team. So we should always remember that and where we were a few years back

So happy but let’s not rest on our laurels.

  22. Note of caution though as SFTB pointed out,I think counter attacking might just suit Maribor next week.

But highly confident we will progress especially with our fans giving it big licks :))))

Thank you again Ronny & Celtic

    WITS-

You called it as you saw it-fair enough.

But we have shown rapid and marked improvement since the Legia games and with a new addition or 2 hopefully we can make a nark in the CL this year-well lets hope we get into the group stages 1st!

On tonight’s showing though I think we have enough to progress.

  24. Thats the best performance I have seen in a European game for, well,I dont know how long.Total control, unlucky not to score a couple more.I cannot pick out a failure, but some were tremendous.Kayal,Johansen,VVD,in fact why pick out anyone, they were tremendous.2 quite lucky goals, apart from Johansens magnificent ball to Bergets, for the opener.

Anyone still worried about our keeper.Check my posts.I always said he was a wonderful keeper, while others harped on about injuries.

We have a manager here who is totally clued up.The difference tonight, compared to Warsaw was unbelievable.

    Drunk as a skunk,and delirious.

  25. Great result but I must say this was the fittest Celtic team I have seen for a long time, tactics were also spot on, well done to the management team and the players.

I was agreeing with ya :o)

  28. I think Maribor played into our hands a bit in the first half lettin us have the ball and grow into the game

The beginnin of the second half they pressed us and we looked back to our old selfs

Oh for a return of Wanyama

    Anyway

    Happy with the result

    In Ronny i trust

and my new Celtic hero is Mikel Lustig
