Noticed tonight Ronny, talked about being “compact” something I mentioned on here when we were looking a new manager. Rafa Benitez often mentioned this particularly away in Europe.
We were anything but in Legia, however, tonight Maribor played against a compact side.

The assessment of progress as opposed to results is the ability of manager and players to learn
RD has used the setbacks of the Legia game and adapted the balance of the team. In addition we are fitter and more competitive.
Issues at the highest level remain on the left side and in the main striker role.
Good to see Kayal prove me wrong and find another level tonight.
Hard game next week but Maribor look vunerable in defence and Commons (correctly left out tonight may benefit from this)
Quietly pleased

I think we will play slightly more adventurous on Tuesday, but still very wary of the counter
Will expect Commons to play, but wouldn’t be shocked if same side lined up as Kayal was fantastic tonight, broke up play and don’t remember him losing the ball
We were practically the home team tonight anyway

Super show from CFC tonight. Ronny, I had my doubts but, who knows, you could be the next Jock Stein. Team is progressing almost every game.
Craig Gordon immense.
Defense all decent
Johansen played a blinder
Berget looks half decent
Stokes looked alright leading the line (though apparently hasn’t scored in last 16 euro matches)
Kayal looked like, dare I say it, oh I will, Frank Rijkaard in his prime.

This happy clapper/mineshafter dynamic is tedious in the extreme. I assume it is a blog concept as I have never heard it anywhere else in Celtic land. culprits on both sides should look at themselves and remember the person they are in disagreement with is a fellow supporter.
Reading comments from ‘both camps’ is frankly embarrassing as a tic supporter and a fellow adult.
Awe_Naw, naw, you’re missing nothing. To be creative against a higher level we need better players. We can’t buy them, we know this, so we have to develop them, that’s why we have Ronny as a manager. Wee gems like Callum may well be the first to graduate under him.

Gordon is a good keeper. Think he has some way to go before we see his best. His kicking is better than Big Fraser’s, but the big man had built himself into a hero in the support’s eyes.
Not saying Craig can’t do similar, but he has a way to go before that status. Gordon also has the ability and experience. He is also capable of clangers and that’s something we should be be prepared for.

Can’t think off hand what our starting X1 was in game against Karagandy but there’s got to be at least half a dozen changes .
Nothing about the Maribor team tonight makes me believe we cannot finish this at Celtic Park. Especially if the fans get behind the team. Players from big Spanish teams and big Italian teams have said the Celtic fans make a difference on the night, why should it not be true against our current opponents?

Should have come away with a win but a draw away in Europe against a half decent tea goes some way towards recovering our confidence.
Tie is not over by any means but a good result in front of a full house at CP would have the boys fighting for places in the team.
If they don’t sign one, they better move a kid up into the first team….Sink or Swim.

58 teams (9 short of the magic 67) registered, but still time to take part. Registration closes tomorrow midnight.
=============================================
Competition 1: CQN Last Man Standing
Starting this Saturday you simply pick a winning team each week from the footie fixtures. Last (wo)man standing is the winner and takes the entire prizepot!
Note :Registration by COP Thursday
Competition 2: CQN Predictor Cups
This will follow the same basis as last years Champions League/ Europa League tournaments, where you will predict 10 correct scores on selected weekends throughout the season and play against opponents on a head to head basis.
Prizes will be distributed to the last 4 in each tournament.
The CQN Predictor Cups will start in a couple of weeks.
The prizepot pay out for both competitions will be 50%, with the remaining 50% going to our new worthy cause, Shay McGinley, our Bhoy Wonder.
The cost to enter each tournament is £10 each. So great value over the season. Note: dependent on interest we may run more than one “Last Man Standing” in the season, so it may cost a little more, but further entry is your choice.
Competition is open to all. Posters, lurkers, friends and family
So if you would like to join us, have a bit of fun beating your fellow CQNer, and “Help Shay along the way” then drop us an email at cqnpredictor@gmail.com

Sign a striker you say. What type of striker? One who is sharp in the box and ideal for playing against packed defences? Or one who is suited to the lone striker role with abundant pace to take advantage of break always?
Surely you can’t expect a striker who matches both profiles? There are no Henrik Larssons to be found. Certainly not one who would fall into our price range, fee plus salary. Nor one who would want to play in the SPFL.
