McLeish frank admission, Aberdeen get it right. Will we?

1909

BBC’s series, Scotland’s Game, has become compulsive viewing. Tales of redemption for Celtic, Hearts and others, and tales of woe for some. Last night’s episode had a few remarkably frank admissions.

One which caught the eye was former-Rangers former-manager, Alex McLeish, who admitted his title winning team “would’ve been behind [Celtic]” had they not funded their squad through EBTs. We should all take note for when the Big Tax Case reaches the Supreme Court.

Pleased to see the appropriate amount of damage done to Rangers by majority owner and chairman, David Murray, was correctly attributed, with one or two character defects throw in for good measure by contributing journalist, Tom English.

Aberdeen have nailed their proverbial flag to the mast this week with the word, “No previous meeting found” on their fixture list comment on a forthcoming game against Newco. It’s a simple comment, it’s accurate, has been confirmed in writing by Uefa and will position the club shoulder-to-shoulder with their fans.

Get it right, Celtic.

I also learnt a bit of history about Tom Barry and now realise why he is thought of as such a hero.

The cork people are very friendly my cousin married a Corkman in late 60 s in Wolverhampton and moved back there it was one of the counties of Ireland I had never visited and if health permits I will definitely be back. Gordon 64 glad to see you standing by you principles re der Hun . HH

I wont be going next saturday much to the annoiance of my wee bro. I,m not bothered that he or anyone else who chooses to go on the grounds they want to support the bhoys and its every supporters choice. Every supporter has a right to choose. My seat will remain empty.

I wont validate the new hun outfit by being in attendance, nor do I want to be any where near their vile support ever again. I,ve had enough of that to last me a lifetime.

Fair play to those who are going, I hope you have a great day watching Celtic batter this imposter team sensless at paradise.

I,ll be on about the 7th on the Carnoustie Championship course when the game game kicks off and I wont know the score until I finish.

I dont expect any shite from anyone on the stance I,m taking.

Its simply my choice not to be there.

  3. I knew Tom Barry, Papajoe, met him a good few times, shared a Public Platform with him back around 1964/65, protesting about a “courtesy visit” of HMS Relentless to Cork,

  4. I would love if we totally ignore the detritus that appears in our away end next week but I’m a realist. Hopefully a couple of quick goals will see them scurrying toward their Bridgeton bolt holes.

My pal stole a book about him from the library when he was about 13, and read it about 4 times in the first week he had it and promised himself one day he would get to Kilmichael, 44 years later he made it we stood at the reference points and visualised what these guys faced on that cold winters afternoon after being there for many hours waiting . I envy you having met such a hero in my eyes HH

  9. Let’s start the ball rolling. Get the Celtic match day DJ next Saturday against sevco to play ZOMBIES by The Cranberries just before the players come on the park at 11.55. Get the place rocking and watch them foaming at the mouth. HH.

If you aim too far to the left you’ll hit a big slice ;)

Enjoy the golf and stay out of the barry burn if you can.

  11. For what it’s worth – I will not be watching the game v Club 12 /Temporary Licence FC…-To do so would require me to accept that the rules and regulations of Scottish Football aint worth a Triggers Broom.I choose not to.

  12. Joe Craig at Ibrox brought to an end a long losing streak. The first time in my life that we were subjected to regular defeat there. A seminal time.

I was brought up close to Firhill and went to watch Thistle a lot when I could not go to Celtic in the early 70s.

Great times at Firhill. Regular 12,000 crowds watching Joe Craig and Dougie Somner rattle in the goals. I think that they scored about 60 goals in one season when Thistle were in the second division.

Ronnie Gavin was my favourite and Dennis McQuade provided the entertainment.

Alan Rough and Alan Hanson were class players. No chance of a club like Thistle keeping players like them in future.

I yearn for the days when football was community based.

  13. I’m not pretending that not attending next week will hurt me to the very core. I’ll let history determine whether I did the right thing. Hh

I’m not; my wife and I are involved in a Parish meeting there every Monday till around 7:30 and then she holds an RCIA class with the priest. I’m usually kicking about St Mary’s for a while after that. I have, on occasion, been in the room when the FAC meeting is on to lock up or check that M McC has key. She knows me well. I’ll make a point of saying hello on Monday. What time does the FAC meeting start?

  15. Was tempted to cut & paste The Boys of Kilmichael but I wasn’t too long on this site and was having a bit of Cork/Dublin banter with I think WITS. Put on the words of the First Cork Brigade a song almost a 100 years old and ran foul of Paul who deleted it because it contained the initials IRA in one of the lines.

I almost flounced there & then & I probably should have but since then have met some great people from kikinthenakas & BT to Almore & many dozens in between.

Some time in the future I will repost that song and if it is deleted again it will have been my Last Post. A good way to go.
