McLeish frank admission, Aberdeen get it right. Will we?

1909

BBC’s series, Scotland’s Game, has become compulsive viewing. Tales of redemption for Celtic, Hearts and others, and tales of woe for some. Last night’s episode had a few remarkably frank admissions.

One which caught the eye was former-Rangers former-manager, Alex McLeish, who admitted his title winning team “would’ve been behind [Celtic]” had they not funded their squad through EBTs. We should all take note for when the Big Tax Case reaches the Supreme Court.

Pleased to see the appropriate amount of damage done to Rangers by majority owner and chairman, David Murray, was correctly attributed, with one or two character defects throw in for good measure by contributing journalist, Tom English.

Aberdeen have nailed their proverbial flag to the mast this week with the word, “No previous meeting found” on their fixture list comment on a forthcoming game against Newco. It’s a simple comment, it’s accurate, has been confirmed in writing by Uefa and will position the club shoulder-to-shoulder with their fans.

Get it right, Celtic.

  1. HT My apols. We haven’t come this far as a community and a club to roll over now and buy into the big lie. Hh

  2. Just back from the pub – a wonderful ‘Zadok’ evening (of mobile calls) was had by one and all except the zombies who demanded the TV be un-muted!

Did I enjoy it? You bet!

An appearance by Rodger (Ratty) over from Dubai for the game flashing a screen-grab of his £49 away ticket – when I get 3 rapid ‘Zadok’ calls.

Cue much ‘beelin’ and rapid exit stage left – much gnashing of teeth in the underworld. Guess a lot of floorboards will be nailed down this time a week on Saturday!

  3. May as well get in here early on this.

I will not be at Celtic Park for the bigot fest, I will be in Tenerife enjoying a well earned break. Now that is not a boast, I will be enjoying good style hospitality, not 5 star luxury.

To be honest, I got a call from a good freind of mine today offering me a ticket, I obviously declined and it saved me for going off in one about I would not be there anyway. That is my opinion, no need to go mad about it. I fact if the weather is great in Tenerife ,i will probably ignore the bigot fest and catch the highlights later.

If we spank them I will be truly happy, if we don’t I will still have a lovely meal that evening.

Football is great, life is better.

How are you big man, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for verifying I am a good Tim .

I tried all I know to explain to all but just got ridiculed.

How is your mum brother and sister , hope all good I never see anybody now as I’m not out much, although I had a great trip to cork with TW from Crieff. HH

  5. I respect those good Tims that will not attend next week, and Big Gordon nearly convinced me in The Vogue prior to the Aberdeen game that I shouldn’t go. He nearly convinced me.

To me they are a new club, I fully recognise the fraud, cheating and unlawful behaviour that has delivered the monster of Frankenstein into the SPFL…HOWEVER I face it head on. I’ve bought my season ticket and this is where the argument of my friends falls down. You’ve paid for it!

I want to support Celtic no matter what, especially against the hate filled south-side reincarnation.

Come on You Bhoys in Green.

There is no need to wait for the outcome of the BTC to remove titles.

The one in 2002/03 was won playing De Boer who for at least one month of that season was paid by the irregular/illegal/unlawful DOS ebts scheme and won RFC a few points.

The LNS Commission failed to make a distinction between the early iregular ebts and the later ones, because information that would have informed them was not disclosed.

Darren Cooney, STV Grant Russell and Andrew Smith were all supplied with the detailed evidence that the Decision was flawed. None refuted the case but none published.

The SPFL Board know the Commission was screwed by witholding key info. Duff and Phelps did so whilst at the same time making a claim that shows they knew in detail the true nature of those ebts and how HMRC viewed them.

Celtic know because Eric Reilly was supplied with the same info as the rest of the SPFL Board.

The SPFL lawyers Harper Macleod know, because the date used for the Commission was the date of the earliest side letter (Flo) provided to them and they were given the earlier one of 30 August 2000.

The SFA know because the SPFL lawyers washed their hands of the evidence and passed to the SFA.

At least 13 journalists were given the same story and not one has disputed.

It is to the complete shame of all of the parties involved that they have sat on an unpleasant truth and hoped it will all go away or that the truth of cheating doesnt actually matter because, regardless of circumstances, supporters will place support of their club above all else, even when they know that loyalty is being used against them.

Not me mate. I’ve more self respect than to allow that

The 2003 title should be stripped now and the intent that is clear from the use of DOS ebts should be enough to cover the rest.

  7. On three occasions in the past week I’ve engaged in discussion with Sevco supporters who have told me they have tickets or are trying to get tickets for 10/9. On each occasion I’ve told them that for certain reasons I will not be not be attending the game. Their reaction is priceless.

  8. You went to a good spot, Papajoe, hope you understood the accent.

One good thing about the local dialect everyone is referred to as boy or bhoy if you prefer.

Guys talking amongst themselves are likely to say “doucha boy” as a form of congratulations.

That translates as ” I wouldn’t doubt you boy”

  9. Tim the Reaper

Oh and by the way. The same info that was not disclosed by Duff and Phelps in 2012 was also not disclosed by RFC in 2011 as required by UEFA licensing.

    Imagine that, RFC keeping secrets.

  10. Magnificentseven on

I am going to admit to a big mistake, one of many I have made, I thought when we employed Ronny Deila that it was a wise strategy as it would open up the Scandinavian market, I assumed that we could not operate in a market dominated by English teams bloated with sky money.

Brendan arrives and suddenly all of our transfers are from England, probably all will be first team regulars and none of them have cost a fortune, Brendan is the best signing we have made since Henrik.

  11. Ah well,Mrs TB will be happy.

A weeks break from the blog,.No inclination to read about the “Martyrs”not going to support Celtic.

Just why they need to keep repeating the same stuff is beyond me.I dont care if you never go back to see Celtic.Your loss.

I don’t know how I’m gonna tell you,

I can’t play with you no more,

    I don’t know how I’m gonna,

    Do what mama told me,

My friend, the boy next door.

I can’t believe what people saying,

Gonna let your hair hang down,

I’m satisfied to sit here working all day long,

You’re in the darker side of town.

And when I’m out I see you walking,

Why don’t your eyes see me,

Could it be you’ve found another game to play,

What did mama say to me.

    That’s the way,

Oh, that’s the way it ought to be,

Mama said that’s the way it ought to stay, oh.

And yesterday I saw you standing by the river,

And weren’t those tears that filled your eyes,

And all the fish that lay in dirty water dying,

    Had they got you hypnotized.

And yesterday I saw you kissing tiny flowers,

But all that lives is born to die,

And so I say to you that nothing really matterrs,

And all you do is stand and cry.

I don’t know what to say about it,

When all your ears have turned away,

But now’s the time to look,

And look again at what you see,

Is that the way it ought to stay.

    That’s the way,

Oh, that’s the way it oughta be,

    Oh, dont you know now,

Mama said that’s the way it’s gonna stay.

  13. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Jobo at 9.13, great idea about walking out at the 54th minute and returning on the 67th minute.

How did our players play for the under 21’s?

As a wee aside ,young Ajer scored Norway under18’s two goals in their 2 1 win against Denmark under 18’s , today.

  14. Corkcelt

Absolutely loved it met some right good rebels and know why it’s called the rebel county, was amusing to have Omar from Lochee with his strong dundonian accent speaking to the Cork guys. Fortunately I have quite a good ear for accents and had no problem other than some of the local words. HH

I completely agree with your post. That’s why I said regardless of the outcome of the BTC Celtic should challenge LNS. I genuinly think Celtic will want BDO to win in that it will in their eyes, make it all go away. I believe that is the Club position at the moment. It’s so wrong it really makes my blood boil.

While you are there, the CoS based their decision on the BTC on ‘common sense’. I thought that was unusual and as such do you think BDO may have a good case for appeal?

  16. AULDHEID.

The third last paragraph of your post above echoes my thoughts.

A truth is a truth: a pure thing ,untainted by spin, bias, interpretation or manipulation If you fear the truth, you are a coward.

This is a fight for the truth, remember that the victorious write the history.

    Hasta la victoria siempre!

  17. Good stuff, Papajoe, Cork people are genuinely very friendly and as long as no one called you a langer or started acting the langer you were always going to have a bit of craic.

Just watched the BBC doc from last night: well said Tom English and Alex McLeish. Have the shackles been lifted? Compulsive viewing.

Keep an eye on Tom English, he has their number. They won’t be long in going after him.

  19. Roy C…..

Joe Craig’s goal at Ibrox…..was simply known in our house for years and years as “that goal”

My father was awestruck at the wonder of it!

    Marvellous…..thanks Roy
